Took a break from the transfer madness and have been reading up about Carsley.

I need help...I've fallen for the media hype that he's going to play fast attractive football with the kids. Then I read Harry Maguires name!

He can't have sh*t on Carsley too, can he!?

Will certainly be interesting to see how the reality plays out as he'll probably just get given the job if he doesn't completely f**k it up!

Oh, and on the Gallagher comment, they had him down as still at Chelsea when it was first posted by England so theres some comfort

Carsley's U20s certainly played attacking opportunistic football. Gomes was one of his keys. Trafford in goal was outstanding. That was U20s. We'll see.

How's Declan Rice got in there? He was absolute dog sh*t in the Euros.

I read an article that he's a master in getting players into the same team even though it may not be their usual positions.

His England under 21s is an example of that, including palmer as an 8.

I confess, I haven't watched any England U21s before. And I'm very curious what he does with the men's team...I'm actually looking forward to watching an England friendly! Never ever thought I would say that, ever!

His challenge is the step up to senior level. A whole different kettle of quality (against the better teams). Quite a lot of the U21 oppo was ropey. Gomes was a standout, Trafford performed miracles in goal. Casadei is a salutary lesson in terms of the step up to senior level. We'll see.

It's not a friendly though.

The Nations league is a pathway for some teams to get to the World Cup should they do poorly in the WC qualifiers.

England dropping into the B league after finishing bottom of the NL group last time out.

But you would expect England to qualify from the WC group when we enter it anyway.

It's something to do with finishing third and the NL being taken into account. I haven't read it properly, but it's on the EUFA website.

Tbh the international breaks are f**king up the early part of the season. Another one in October then in  November. Lots of opportunities for injuries. It feels like it doesn't get going until they are out the way .

Think it's back in March...

Yeah I have no idea why I called it a friendly. Lol.

But 100% on the international breaks. Just as you get into club football we get a break! It's annoying. A break after every 3 or 4 match weeks or something. Gggrrrrr. Really annoying.

How is this any different that Southgate's England. This is absolutely mind numbing.

We are more balanced with Gordon down the left, Finland defending in numbers and the ref seems to be giving them a lot of decisions in their box.

I was hoping Kane would take that last free kick, to me TTA looks short on confidence or he just does not have the right delivery just now. 

Disappointing though not terrible and the rain keeps coming. 

Blimey, this is dull.

 

Quite enjoyed it myself. Noni has just set up a goal on a plate for Kane's second.

Ended ok though, 2 decent goals.

1st half highlight for me was Finland:s suicidal attempt to play out from the back, saved by the refs whistle.

Madueke was desperate to score, nice pass to Kane for 2nd goal.

Kept noticing the media raving over TTA, sure some decent passes yet also some that were wayward. 

Madueke had a better half the Eze.

That's not a bad thing though, focusing on a few wayward passes is everything Southgate would have done and why England couldn't actually win anything under him. He was so afraid of what the opposition could do that he forgot that his own players were just as good, if not better. Palmer is guilty of giving the ball away at times too, but he's the first player on the team sheet for us.

We've had plenty of games like this under Southgate in friendlies.

I don't think TTA is right in the head, in-play passes were generally good yet the dead kicks were poor.

Reminds me of some of our past strikers like Torres could do everything but put the ball away. 

 

I thought Englands stucture was really impressive, Finland were absolutely boxed in (particularly in the second half). The way Carsley had them set up with the ball meant counterpressing was extremely effective if the ball was given away and I thought the team recovered well if they beat the press. It really looked like a team of good players playing good football in a good system, rather than as it was under southgate a team of good players, trying to play good football not in a system.

Sure there was a lot of what people would call boring passing but they were missing a lot of big players and a few new faces bedding in too, along with the new system. 

As always the big questions are; will they continue to get better and can they do it against a bigger nation. We'll find out the answer to question 1 over the next 6 months or so but question 2 wont get answered until they've either commited to Carsley or opted elsewhere. 

And we have a new manager we can blame for England being sh*t !
