JT26CFC
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story ... 21&cc=5901 If Gerrard is given the armband They cannot (meaning FA) blame Terry for england's failure! There had to be times when Beckham was captain that he got a red card (a couple of times in the worst situation)or did something against a referee. Capello don't do something you'll later regret
The Moos
JT has been an excellent captain for England so I see no reason why he can't continue. Okay, so he has done some things in some games for Chelsea and in his personal life that might not be that good. But I think they should look at how he has represented England. Also, who should get the captaincy if JT is stripped from it? Gerrard who dives all the time? Rooney who thinks it's okay to scream "f*ck off" to refs? Carjacker who won't even play for the national team? Finally. I think they should look back on when JT said that he would gladly let Beckham be captain when he reached 100 games for England. I think that shows what a great man JT is. I really hope Capello let Terry stay as captain. If not then I will never forgive Capello and I will never, ever cheer for England again (apart from the Chelsea players of course).
bjd
Sadly i suspect that there is a fair chance of this happening. We love JT , we all really love JT but even the biggest Chelsea fan wearing the brightest blue tinted sunglasses will struggle to admit that he has at times not acted like the standard bearer for his country, on and off the pitch. I suspect it will go to Owen. The safe choice. Just please not Ickle Stevie. Please. Expect the media clamour to start very soon. Led by Alan Green and the Red Top Anfield Taliban. loz
Capello is nobody's puppet. If he is appointed AND JT is stripped of the captaincy it will be purely a decision Capello has made and nothing to do with any bigwigs in the FA. If that does transpire then I have no problem with it, Capello is the manager and has every right to make whatever choice he deems as appropriate. JT26CFC
fine if he was was stripped, although i'd be hugely dissapointed. Then again it may take the pressure off of Terry and he'll be able to focus soley on captaining Chelsea. But if Gerrard gets it we'll never hear the end of it " Captain Steven Gerrard scores!" clubhappy
I doubt it would effect J.T.'s confidence if it were to happen although he would no doubt be disappointed , gutted even . I dont think ive ever come across an England player who's sickening adoration has spiralled out of control the way it's happened with Gerrard. Wheres the appeal ? I doubt anything will change , J.T. is in a better position to be captain purely because he's a better player and leader.
Valerie
What has JT done off the pitch since he became captain that justifies stripping him of the captaincy? Surely not that unsubstantiated report of drunken behaviour at a party?
The Brit
to be honest, I haven't liked jt that much recently...still love him as a player, but I have found his behaviour on the pitch a bit embarassing...we didn't like it when utd did it, why should we now? Also there is far too much talk of what he does off the pitch...as always can't always believe what you read , but no smoke without fire...part of me wouldn't mind of if he lost the captaincy cos it might bring him back down to earth...he certainly has carried a bit more of an attitude since he got the captaincy.. that is not to say stevie me would be a good choice...you hear fans celebrating at the thought of jt losing it and saying same old crap about gerrard's leadership qualities, passion etc...well he was captain against croatia, didn't see him inspire his team-mates that night
Chippy
It's a strange one this, where I have thought of late that JT is giving a bit too much stick to Referees at any opportunity I still believe he is the best leader/motivator in the England squad, You would think a new manager could come in and pull him aside with some advice about his behaviour and then tell him he is the right man for the Job. It's as if the FA want to be seen to be doing something positive apart from changing the manager. If it happens though I wouldn't think it will benefit the team in any way. c3blu
Its not like JT has done anything wrong on the pitch for England in fact his injury was probably one of the reasons we did'nt qualify. That just shows how much he was missed. I dont see why the position of captain is even in question.
Chippy
Rare praise from Gallas who says JT and Dessaily were his role models Gallas reveals his captaincy role models By Jonathan Chong on Friday, December 14, 2007 Captain and defender William Gallas said that he is basing his Arsenal captaincy on role models Marcel Desailly and John Terry. Many were surprised then manager Arsène Wenger chose to give the captain's armband to Gallas, but it has proved a masterstroke and the French defender has taken the role in his stride. Gallas said: "I think everybody knows John. "I played with him, he was a good leader and when I was there, all the time he put himself in front and that is very important for the team. "He has made a good job as well with the England team. "You know what is good is that you have to have some examples to try to be a good captain. Before John Terry I think John watched Marcel Desailly. "I watched Marcel as well because he was our captain and I tried to be the best of him. "To be a good captain you have to take something from all the others."
Maksimov
I bet you'd get the same never say die attitude from Terry even if he wasn't the captain. I mean, he's been leading from the back by barking orders since he first joined the first team training sessions. I remember reading an interview from Vialli where he mentioned being quite surprised by Terry's confidence and natural leadership qualities right from the start. BTW...I heard a rumour that Beckham might be named as the England captain again.
loz
I believe that rumour purely relates to the next game as it would be his 100th cap if selected. JT has already said he would be happy to let Beckham captain the team on the night he gets the 100.
JT26CFC
well who knows if beckham will be named england captain, it is capello who's the england boss now and they didn't really leave on the best of terms. I'm not saying it was Becks fault for the sacking of capello, but it is ironic that once beckham signed to galaxy, capello was sacked after winning La Liga. Maksimov
Capello was furious with Beckham after the the Galaxy deal was announced, and dropped him from the squad. I even remember reading something about Capello saying that he wouldn't play Beckham. In the end Capello was impressed by Beckham's professional attitude...the way he just kept working hard in the training sessions and eventually won back his place in the playing lineup. Well that's just based on what I've read. If all the stories in the media are to be believed, Capello actually rates Beckham, but who knows. The Moos
Capello have to chose the person he feels would do the best job (in other words John "Ironman" Terry) but I do hope that he can show some good will and hand Beckham the captaincy when Beckie plays his 100th game. I would love that.
