ethicalstrategy Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Looking forward to this tonight. Nice to be able to watch a match without my buttocks clenched for 90 mins. I expect Utd to be quite cautious with 5 in midfield. Barca really need to go for it in the home leg. Should be good viewing but probably not a classic.
loz Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Streams here if anyone is interested http://www2.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matc ... art=sports My personal hope is Barcelona 3 Manchester United 5 - the numbers being the number of season ending injuries both teams get!
Englishman Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Ronaldo just missed a pen. Can't understand why everyone seems to be writing Barca off. Fair do's they've had a relatively poor season, but a team with Mess, Eto'o and Henry can beat anyone on their day.
JT26CFC Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Fantastic game this is, Messi's being a real threat AH so close there!
loz Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Half time 0-0. Messi has been very good and it appears the production crew on ESPN don't like it as every time Ronaldo pulls a fancy, but fairly unproductive, flick they are desperate to show it in slow motion to try and show he is every bit as good a Messi. Lots of people falling over easily - doubt you will read about it tomorrow.
dkw Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 this game is awful. after all the crap about our game with the dippers being boring and how barca and manyoo would show the way with attacking football galore, they should be bloody ashamed of themselves. barca passing for passings sake, mayoo parking the bus and barely ever attacking. and as statedm players falling about all over the place. plus that slimey winker having temper tantrums every 5 minutes is just embarassing.
ethicalstrategy Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 That must go down as one of the most unambitious performances of any side in an european cup semi final. I really do hope it isn't rewarded in the second leg. And if you thought Drogba put in a moany performance last night then Ronaldo just showed him how to really do it.
jack h Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Is it just me or does Eto'o not look anywhere near as good as he was a couple of years ago. He still looks threatening but I don't get the feeling he's going to score every time he gets a half decent chance the way he used to.
JT26CFC Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 i was suprised...i thought Barca would've scored. Should have been 2-0 barca but pass..pass...pass..And Ronaldo went to ground what 4 times, but somehow the media will forget Ronadlo's penalty miss!
ethicalstrategy Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 I thought Eto'o looked as if he had lost a yard or two of pace. There was one through ball where Ferdinand easily kept ahead of him. Not surprising with the number of injuries he has had.
Mr Chelsea Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 i havent laughed so much in ages when the so called worlds greatest player missed the penalty................priceless
Englishman Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 After all their sniggering about yesterday's game, what a negative, unspiring spectacle. Barca created little, United barely got out of their own half. And once again Ronaldo went missing in a big game.
loz Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 And once again Ronaldo went missing in a big game. I think tonight's game provided a clear indication of what makes Messi that bit more special than Ronaldo. (Yes I realise that this was only one game and this it is a bit daft to draw conclusions from one game however I am actually basing this opinion on what I have seen of both of them over a few seasons now) Both are very gifted players, any denial of that would be churlish, and both would improve our team considerably. However purely comparing the two I think Messi is a considerably better player because I think Messi plays and thinks football whereas Ronaldo just plays it (if you see what I mean). They both have a stack of ability but Messi plays within the structure of the team and is therefore still valuable even when not on form however Ronaldo plays more for himself and when he is off form he contributes little.
g3.7 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 messi's a far more natural and inutuitive player loz, I agree. however, this game was a bad one to judge ronaldo on- barca had 65% possession and man united put in a performance of incredible negativity- fergie picked all his hard working players, played 10 men behind the ball and defended deep- ronaldo was isolated in a position that isn't really his, and whenever he got the ball he was 50 yards from goal and the furthest player forward.
clubhappy Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Only saw 1st half and Barca looked more the part but created very little in terms of scoring chances. The RTE panel were shooting the load in antisipation of what was ahead . 'A real game of football Bill 'was Eamon Dunphys view, two sides who know how to play the beautiful game ' Yeah quips Brady , 2 teams who play attacking football ' Well United in the 1st half didnt look like a team that mirrored Brazil or Holland of the 70's . Only caught the end of the full time analysis , but, John Giles absolutely tore into Ronaldo . It was worth every penny of the licence fee. He crusified him . Insisted he only plays to entertain himself , his showboating is unecessary and pointless , dosent work hard enough and frustrates his own team mates.
Tim W Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I think you have to give SAF some credit, they knew Barca would have the majority of possession without much substance and defended accordingly. (Barca have played exactly the same way in their last 10-12 league games 65% possession -few goals). The point that did stand out for me was how Eto stayed on his feet compared to others.
The Brit Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 yes but isn't fergie and man u the epitomy of the beautiful game and would never play tactically for a 0-0 and bore the pants off europe? And isn't ronaldo the greatest player that ever lived despite rarely performing in big games? If Chelsea were that average, as they have been on one occasion in the Nou Camp (2006), we'd be slaughtered...we even copped it when we lost 2-1 there in 05 when we were robbed by the ref...this was supposedly the dream final, the game all the neutrals wanted to see etc...now i'm not suggesting our semi with liverscum was a classic, but i just felt last night again exposed how united and ronaldo are overrated...hope we prove it again on saturday, but even if we fail to beat them, it won't change my mind...we keep hearing this squad is the best ever for united etc and they haven't won anything yet...last I rememeber the 1999 team won the treble, which is already out of reach this year...there is a lot of hype around this team.
Killbill Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I think you have to give SAF some credit I’ll give him some credit. No other manager has gone to the Nou Camp and shat himself in the amount Ferguson did.
youlots Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I think that if our owner does plump for Rijkard to replace the Panda then it must be a condition of the deal that Messi comes as well. Just buy him for f**ks sake. What a player.
