Bring back Graham Potter

Br0wser got a reaction from Gordon Bennett in Bournemouth v Chelsea (PL) Sun 17th Sep 2023 14:00 GMTI think you'll find the culprit was Putin invading Ukraine, not the unanimous western governments imposing sanctions!
-
No, it was Putin invading Ukraine.

Br0wser reacted to bisright1 in Should Graham Potter be sacked?Incidentally Potter's first 18 games have a better record than Tuchels last 18.
Tuchel won't come here. So let it rest.
-
Br0wser reacted to just in Should Graham Potter be sacked? And I'd like to go back to 1981 and have another loose, curly perm and give it large at the local discotheque but I know that's not going to happen either.

Br0wser reacted to loz in Should Graham Potter be sacked? In the words of Luca, in football you don't lose, you learn.
Wise words Luca, and always true to some extent. Some times more than others. Some games you put up a great contest, lose but walk away with your head held high and valuable experience and lessons learned.
Then there is today, walk off, utterly humiliated after putting in a performance that wouldn't look out of place in the great book of French Military Victories.
Couple of performances by the youngsters are a bit of a good lesson learned however the main thing we learned is something we already knew. In our senior players we have no leadership, no stomach for the fight and absolutely f**k all sense of pride.
It's f**king embarrassing to see the likes of Hall trying to make an impression on a game when players with the experience of Jorginho, Koulibaly, Ziyech, Havertz and Mount have signed off within 15 minutes of the game starting.
Mount aside, and he is only saved through age and a hope he can rediscover his ability, the other four need shipped in the summer.
Jorginho was a disgrace today. Captain my arse. Every minute he plays for us is a wasted opportunity to play...bloody anyone else.
I know there is a growing push for Potter to be punted and that's understandable given the results and performances we are seeing but f**k me Tuchel incrementally built a squad not fit for purpose.

Br0wser reacted to The Rising Sun in Should Graham Potter be sacked?Good, Those players aren't good enough anyway,
-
Br0wser reacted to Nibs in Should Graham Potter be sacked?Easy to be pissed off about today but we were never going to win that with Silva being rightly rested and without James, Chilwell & Kante.
Think it is clear that we play our better football when we have Silva at the back with Zakaria in the midfield and then the likes of Hall & Carney to at least give us something to get excited about.
At this moment, I feel I NEVER want to see, Havertz, Aubameyang or Ziyech player for Chelsea again. They all look completely disinterested and the sooner they are gone the better, closely followed by Jorginho, Koulibaly, Sterling and maybe even Kovacic. Too many players just going through the motions - it's no wonder we are so easy to play against.
-
Br0wser reacted to The Rising Sun in Should Graham Potter be sacked?I've been through the wilderness years . Started in the early 60s. I never expected us to win anything. I was just a fan , I could have supported other teams if trophies were more important to me then our club.
I want success like everyone, but most teams win nothing.. ever.
But they have fans that support them . Palace, West Ham, Sunderland, Millwall etc etc .
Success was better than the sh*te years certainly, but it's still Chelsea, always will be no matter.
Thanks for your reply mate take care

Br0wser reacted to Blue2 in Should Graham Potter be sacked?I voted for 'No, he should be given more time', because of some of the reasons already stated in this topic. Some of the criticism towards him I agree with also, but I disagree with the mindset of the people who want him to get sacked in this situation.
I mean guys how about having some realistic expectations about the clubs situation, just because performance and resultswise Potter so far is a downgrade on Tuchel, there is no reason to think that Potter can have no positive effect on the club in the longterm.
With the owners having a longterm strategy which should suit Potter's profile, how would it be beneficial to the club if he gets sacked, because of a results crisis which is clearly influenced by an injury crisis, players underperforming and a squad quality problem?
Even if Potter has underperformed in some matches and probably will do so with this squad until the end of the season, I would still prefer if the owners back him and have a proper plan which they follow than act in a volatile manner.

Br0wser reacted to Argo in Should Graham Potter be sacked? They were scoring freely at the end of last season (11 in 4) and obviously the 5 goal demolition of Leicester in his last game. They also went on a run of just one goal in four games at the start of RDZ reign, aswell as that they had an utter stinker of a performance against Villa and getting knocked out of the cup by a league one side. It's Brighton, you will easily be able to be selective to try and make one manager look better than the other as I've just done in reverse.
There's fair question marks over Potter's suitability here but this constant downplaying of what he did at Brighton is very disingenuous.

Br0wser reacted to dkw in Should Graham Potter be sacked?Superb post, and one I would hope any sensible fan would agree with. I just dont understand what "fans" think will change if we sack Potter and bring in the next one, the squad we have is shambolic because of the last 3 or 4 windows, we have been in decline for over 12 months the way we played, the thing we need now is a steady and consistent managerial team, a plan to move the squad forward, which seems to happening based on the players in, but it needs to be trimmed at the top end.
Seeing a certain type of fan whine and stamp their feet is embarrassing, demanding sackings, some even wanting the new owners out. Get a f**king grip.

Br0wser reacted to General in Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea ManagerI'm suggesting that in 5 decades of going to Stamford Bridge I've witnessed far worse results than those we've seen over the last few months. Also worth remembering my old man's advice (he's been going 6 decades) - the performances and results are completely out of your hands, so why get yourself all upset son ? At the end of the day/ 90 minutes, its a sport, so chillax and enjoy instead of being angry and upset at a poor bloke like GP who just accepted a job offer to better his professional career, and don't forget to have a great Christmas and New Year, cheers mate !

Br0wser reacted to Scott Harris in World Cup Qatar 222 games in a row where it's very one sided. From an England point of view, it's great, but extending the World Cup to 48 teams in 4 years just means we'll get more games like this.

Br0wser reacted to axman2526 in Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea ManagerAh back when we were football fans first, rather than seen as consumers of the product.
-
Br0wser reacted to Raskolnikov in Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea ManagerI believe Potter's biggest issue is his lack of charisma. It is not just the fact that we have been used to managers being sacked, but everytime that happened, the new manager was always someone who had something interesting or "special" about him. Jose was Jose, Frank was Frank. Antonio Conte was this energetic crazy guy, Sarri was this avid smoker who everyone expected to come and make Chelsea play like prime Barcelona, while Tuchel always knew how to say the right things during his speeches.
Now we have Potter, this regular guy who talks like a therapist and who is MAYBE a bit too calm compared to what we were used to. He never seems to be bothered about the mess that we are in and it is hard for some of the fans to trust what he is doing, as we cannot see any passion or anger coming out of him. Not even during the games. So yeah, I can see why there are so many people who are asking for his head already. Yet, I do not think that is fair.
We need to understand that there is a new culture that this club is trying to develop. We need to understand that it takes time. We need to remember that only a few months ago there were talks about us going into administration! People are complaining about Boehly and Co. not having a clearer vision, but it is difficult to have things put into place considering the nature of the takeover. Also, we need to remember that these guys have not inherited the culture at Manchester City or Bayern. We, as a club, were in a big mess recruitment-wise and wage-wise.
Like it or not, it takes time. We will keep on suffering for a while and we need to accept that. But it will not last forever. Better times are coming. I personally trust Potter and I cannot wait to see what players we sign in the January window. I am not sure if we will make top 4 this season, but again, when the sanctions were imposed I wasn't 100% sure that we will make it TO this season. I am also sure that he is inteligent enough to adapt to his new job and to get better at communicating with the fans. Or maybe we will get better at understanding that sometimes jazz sounds better than heavy metal.

Br0wser reacted to Chelsc96 in Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea ManagerPotter is in because he has been shown to be able to build and improve teams. Whilst people say he never achieved anything, that is absolute nonsense.
Ostersund were a 4th division Norwegian side when he took over. He eventually got that club promoted to their top division for the first time in history and won the cup for the first time in history. He also took them into the Europa League, getting them through qualification and then they even got through the group. They were eventually knocked out by Arsenal, but even then Ostersund beat them in one leg. The jump was enormous since he took over.
Are people expecting him to win the Europa League with Ostersund for it to be considered an achievement? That would arguably be the best managerial achievement of all time if he managed that - that isn't high expectations; that is just stupid.
Brighton - they were a defensive side when he took over, fighting relegation. They only looked to try and concede as few goals as possible and to counter-attack, hoping to knab a goal. That is a far cry away from what they are now. They have been turned into one of the better possession teams in the league; they are considered one of the toughest matches for the top six, regularly taking points from them. This season was looking incredibly positive under him. They had come on leaps and bounds and have only been a consistent goal scorer away from challenging the Europa League positions last season.
In the end, it takes time. You cannot build a side if you haven't had an opportunity to build.
Arteta was given time, and it is proving to be the right decision. I know people will use hindsight now to say that is different to Potter's circumstances, but it is not. Remember when they got trashed by newly-promoted Brentford? Remember how they were only 10th in the form table at the end of last season? Don't kid yourself, there was massive pressure and calls to sack him. The owners were right to ignore them.
-
I'm afraid we have to support the boys in blue through the ups and downs.
Your choice mate and that's fair enough. But if we all turned our backs on them we would be playing in an empty stamford bridge and no support away from home.
We need to support them more in the tough times and those of us old uns these times ain't that tough....

Br0wser reacted to GarnachoCheese in Project Potter May 2024Not a dig at you personally but this is the laziest take in football ever. How are people ever to move up in their manager career if every time they're met with 'the jobs too big for him', with zero proof of that being true.
The same could have been said for Pep when he took over Barca, Klopp for Dortmund, Arteta for Arsenal. Worked out pretty well for them lot. Potter has as much chance as being the next world dominating manager as he does a job being too big for him.

Br0wser reacted to strider6004 in Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea ManagerPotter
No pre-season
No Kante or Kovacic
James injured
Fofana injured
Chilwell injured.
Doubts over Koulibaly.
I fear the worst with City and Newcastle up next yet hope there is no knee-jerk reaction if results go against us.

Br0wser reacted to Argo in Was sacking Tuchel for Potter a good decision? Why not? As critical as I've been of Potter recently at Brighton he competed very well against all the top 6 bar City and not just by playing defensive either.
Also Ten Hag's record in Europe is very average.

Br0wser reacted to coco in Was sacking Tuchel for Potter a good decision? And Brighton.

Br0wser reacted to Backbiter in Was sacking Tuchel for Potter a good decision?Potter did a very good job at Swansea and then Brighton. Solskjaer was absolutely hopeless at Cardiff.

Br0wser reacted to SwedishEntity in Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea ManagerSarri, Lampard, Tuchel and Potter all played with Jorginho.
I suppose there is a 50/50 chance that none of these know nothing about football and that you know everything, but I'm leaning in the other direction tbh.
With Kante injured, Kovacic struggling with niggles and Gallagher sick - even the mythical manager who would have Chelsea win 38 out of 38 league games (being the first one to live up to expectations) might have played with Jorginho.
He's not Gods gift to football but it is a good player.
