Great post, Dorset. I'm really tired of this as well. People may say, "ignore them". Well, heck, if you were excited at the prospect of a new manager and what he may do to the team to improve it, it is darned right impossible to ignore what goes on in the papers. But forgetting the bias for a little bit, some of the rumors do sound very far fetched. For example, Kaka would only ever go to Real, if he ever left Milan. I really believe that. I sincerely doubt he'd come to the EPL. It wouldn't suit his game. He's already very, very settled at Milan and only a move to his dream destination would appeal. So that rumor never really did get me too excited. The papers drumming our interest up and then reporting we'd been snubbed is irritating, however. The Villa rumors are similar. David Villa strikes me as someone who wants to remain in Spain, and he has options. I am certain Madrid or even Barca would be interested if they felt Valencia would sell. As such, he doesn't need to consider moving abroad. So, I doubt we would be one of his first choices. As a matter of fact, I don't think we'd be one of his first maybe five choices. Who wouldn't be interested in the likes of Kaka and Villa. The thing is, players have their preferred destinations and we as a club would/should know this. The rumor I'm interested in is the Ribery one. Again, it looks like our supposed interest is going to go nowhere as Bayern say they will not sell him because van Gaal wants to work with him. I think firstly that the rumors of our interest are plausible because [a] he plays in a position that we need strengthening, and he's at a club where a move to Chelsea would be considered a step up. I also believe Bayern could use the money to strengthen several other areas. It leads me to believe they are just trying to drive up his transfer fee. This is a situation where, as you say, it would be better to move and complete the transfer quickly. Delaying only serves to help Bayern. I would not be shocked to learn Madrid wanting to turn to him if they lose out on Ronaldo. Snubbed, snubbed and snubbed again! Cheers, Butch

Never seen him play so cannot comment on the player. Just a general observation though; the ability to be in the right place at the right time should not be sniffed at. How a players scores a boat-load of goals is not as important as the fact he actually is able to score those goals. It is the goals that wins you matches and gets you points. You don't get extra points for way in which you score. Remember the likes of Lineker and to a certain extent van Nistelrooy? That was only a general observation and in no way, shape or form should be construed as me supporting the idea that we should sign Dzeko. Cheers, Butch

Had a day or so now to both calm myself down and cheer myself up. It has been difficult, as I am sure it has been for all Chelsea fans. The match was hyped to the extreme, and while in the best of circumstances any Chelsea fan would want his/her team to win, being made to look like brutes and being condemned to rightful defeat at the hands of the Catalan Gods before a ball was kicked would only make all Chelsea fans more resolute in their support of their beloved team. Thus, the late, late defeat under dubious conditions would "break" any fan, I don't care who you think you are. I am proud of "my team". I am proud of "my heroes", all of them, including the manager who has gone up even more in my estimation for how he has set us up to play and held himself throughout. They played as well as they could, keeping in mind they were up against one of the best footballing teams in Europe at the moment. That we held them scoreless as their place and limited them to one shot on target at our place is nothing short of spectacular. I have nothing but admiration for the performances. I don't care what anyone else says. As for the emotional reactions towards the end and after the second leg I have to say I am not surprised in the least. Heroes are human afterall, and I'd say the players represented the feelings of all us fans by their unfortunate actions - unfortunate only in how they will fuel what UEFA can do to us and grab the attentions over the pathetic performance of the little boy with a whistle who attempted to enforce the rules of football on the day. I really am pleased that the club are publicly backing our players, even if in private they are frantically planning damage limitation. Also, while I was not shocked by the players' reactions, I am happy that Didi and Bossa have apologized for their words/actions. That was all they could do, for while it was understandable, their actions cannot be considered "proper" in the strictest sense, and they are looked up to by younger fans. While I have always maintained that the EPL is, and should be, our first priority, I also always hoped that we could win the top European prize to complete our collection and "cement" our arrival as one of the best clubs in the world. Now? I am not so sure anymore. This competition has gone down in my estimation. By quite a bit. A part of me still wants us to win so we can stick it to all and sundry, but that would be it. I don't know how proud I'd actually be anymore. Sour grapes? Maybe. But at this moment, personally, I don't care about the tournament. Except that, I am very fond of our current playing staff. I feel they, and we, have gone through a lot together. And I feel they deserve the global recognition that winning what is perceived to be the top club prize in football would give them, even if they should know they will always have ours. And so for that reason alone, I would support them in their endeavor, just so I could see them happy and proud. For while I had the wind knocked out of me at the sight of the ball sailing past Cech's outstretched arms, what was infinitely worse was the sight of the clear anguish and disappointment on the face of my heroes. Time will heal, to a certain extent, and I can't wait to see them back enjoying their football again. That is what I want more than anything. As for that little boy with the whistle, I pity him. And as for UEFA (and in extension FIFA), this match should be Exhibit A in the "trial" that fuels changes in how football matches are officiated (it probably won't). Enough of the laughable excuses trotted out everytime the issue is raised. There is too much riding on proper refereeing of football matches. Get off your bloody high horses and do what it takes to get it right. Cheers, Butch

What we do, we will do on our own terms. That is the beauty of not having lost at your place. We'll see about parking the bus. Is that what you believe we will do? That is certainly not what I implied. By the way, not all goals are scored from open play, but then again, considering how your team defend crosses in general, as can be seen from your win at Real, you probably don't even want to consider set plays, eh?
