Previous ownership unintentionally created / strengthened this issue. Players knowing if they downed tools they would get a reset in the form of a new manager, nobody would judge them for the months of sh*t form, it was the manager all along.
I have an uncle who is a very high paid troubleshooter / consultant for corporations worth billions. They bring him in when a branch or department is not performing and they have tried all standard methods without success. He goes in and makes recommendations on what needs to change, who needs to go, etc, and then carry’s out the process. He has always told me every time when entering a toxic culture and making changes to correct that, 9 times out of 10 it WILL get worse before it gets better.

I see the same thing happening here. I am genuinely happy these changes are being made. I don’t know if Potter is the right manager long term, but I do know that sacking him will only solidify the previous current/culture, which is if you don’t like something, play like s**t or just give far less s**ts, and sooner rather than later the problem will go away, and you will get a free pass because now you’re playing well again, so it must have been the manager. I’ve seen this happen too many times at CFC. I’m genuinely happy the club is attempting to do something about it.

We have players worth hundreds of millions making basic errors. Repeatedly. That’s not management. That’s a man child with talent who has their head up their own a** because they have had it reinforced they get what they want being that way.

All you 'sack Potter now' zealots, are any of you old enough to remember 1993/94?  Let me tell you what I remember.
In 1992/93 we had finished 11th - dull, long ball football, attendances at an all time top flight low, club not exactly 'flush' with funds.  At the start of 93/94 a new manager is in place, a man called Glenn Hoddle.  This manager is not the kind of guy that advocates dull, long ball football, he wants the game played the 'right way', pass and move, control of the football, he wants 'attractive football', football to bring the supporters back through the turnstiles.  Fast forward to 28th December 1993, there we are, in the relegation places, we have won THREE league games ALL SEASON, we have lost EIGHT of our last ten, drawing the other two, me and a friend get a couple of tickets that day to watch us play Newcastle United - a club challenging for the title (they finished 3rd that season).  The 'atmosphere' at the Bridge has been getting 'toxic', Hoddle out NOW is what a percentage of Chelsea fans are demanding (a smaller percentage than those that want to give him a chance), game kicks off and Newcastle start threatening straight away, HOWEVER there is something 'different' about this Chelsea team, despite being under the cosh for long periods they are breaking with some beautiful moves, they're no longer hoofing it forward towards the 'big man' (not that we had one at the time it was Peacock and Stein!), suddenly a beautiful move forward and we go one up! In fact we hang on for our first league win since SEPTEMBER.  From that moment on we start to improve, we're unbeaten in the next 5 (winning 4).
At the end of the season we finish 14th three places LOWER that the previous year BUT there is something different, a team that plays attractive football, we start to see the attendances increase, we start 'attracting' the TV camera's, we start getting more cash and better players.  These are our finishing places and average attendances in the following years:-
    94/95 - 11th - 21,063
    95/96 - 11th - 25,590
    96/97 - 6th - 27,512
    97/98 - 4th - 32,901
    98/99 - 3rd - 34,748
The rest is as they say history,  it was a revolution at the club, Hoddle didn't immediately improve things.......in fact results got worse, before getting better, however after a couple of seasons he had a very poor team playing competitive AND attractive football that completely changed the direction of our club.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Bates bowed to the pressure and sacked him when things were going badly (a lot worse than things have been under Potter)?
I feel fairly sure we would NOT have two Champions League trophies in the cabinet right now!
All you Potter haters think on.

If we had Zakaria and Felix available for the weekend Liverpool game, I'd fancy us to turn them over. Yes, even at Anfield. Unfortunately we don't so I don't think we will. But looking on the bright side we are close (apparently), to getting some of our walking wounded back in the reckoning and when that happens I feel we really will see a big improvement.
Keep the faith people. Walking in a Potter Wonderland.

Ask any rival fan and they'll tell you it's £105m and £220k p/w.
Boehly and co have actually done a fantastic job so far in building a team for the future. I imagine come 2024/25 season we're gonna have one hell of a squad with Casadei/Santos/Chukwuemeka/Hutchinson(?), Hall all playing larger roles.
Am i wrong in saying behind City we might have the best owners in football?

I genuinely believe we are in very good hands here. Why I haven’t been panicking one bit, I know we will be back and more than likely better than ever. We had been in a slow downturn since the glory days and winning the CL just papered over that slightly.
When this happened, after doing some research I was reassured about our new ownership based on their track record, as well as Abramovich’s blessing when he had many many offers. We all know he cared deeply about this club, and he chose them, we also know Roman is a very intelligent savvy man.
With those three factors combined, I felt and feel very hopeful and positive for our future, which also allows me to somewhat enjoy us being occasionally s**t again.
It reminds me of the old days when I did not know if we would win or not, and mostly expected us to f**k it up because we usually would. We got spoiled for awhile, and it shows in a lot of our fan base. This will just make when we do win the PL again, and we will, that much sweeter.

There's a valid argument that football clubs are a good investment.
There are 16 american sports teams who are valued higher than United (the highest valued team). Hardly anyone outside the US knows them. And they only play for a 3rd of the year.
English football is watched in bigger numbers, for more days, in more countries.
As an example, Dallas cowboys are apparently worth 3bn more than United. But United have 14x more Instagram followers than the cowboys. United play 3x more games a year.
In 10 years time, I wouldn't be surprised if we are 2 or 3x the value we were bought for.

Good, i hope he does. Wellcome Todd. Why have we bought so many sh*t players ? Why don't we get rid of said sh*t players? When are we going to see your stadium plans? Why do you sell such sh*t over priced beer at the Bridge? Could you give me £500k.

I do wonder if that 150k mentioned is including performance related bonuses, or if those are additional? I remember reading somewhere they were prioritizing higher performance related / lower regular salary. If so the actual number may be far lower than 150k unless we’re winning, then he’s winning. Which is really how it should be 🤣

So it looks like the fees are initial payment of £66m that could rise to £88m if all clauses are met.
So as usual nowhere near the ridiculous figures banded about. Same as most deals we make lately with the media and twatter f**kwits inflating figures, and unfortunately the gullible believe them.

I have a theory, based on absolutely nothing whatsoever,  that Potter isn't having Sterling.  I can easily see Sterling being moved on at some point and, dare I say it, I could see him going to Spuds as I don't think Arteta will have a lot to do with us for a while.

But you're acting like Boehly is our only financial backer, he's a minority owner used as the face of the consortium. Our backers are not about to lay out around £4bn to lead us to bankruptcy. Plus you do forget that while Boehly doesn't have football experience, he's part owned sports teams for years.

Definitely better, slightly worrying we had to resort to playing 4 natural cbs in a back 4 at one point, but who knows that could be the way forward.
Credit to Potter, I've been one of his critics but he stuck with Trev for example after a bad game last time out and Trev responded to that trust well. New CB Benoit I liked what I heard about him prior and I like what I saw today.
Hopefully Potter learned a few things from today and we don't go back to the lack of fight shown in previous games.
He's got a long way to convince a decent sized percentage of the fan base he's the right man for the job. Games like this however scrappy show the intent to at least fight. The pretty football can wait no one's asking for that we just want heart and I saw plenty of it today.
Edit: have to mention I liked the midfield trio he picked today, might not work against every team but we got to see the best of Gallagher for the first time in a while.

Ok let’s go a little more in depth with that
    1. This was predicated saying this is last resort as it may backfire.
    2. I honestly believe our under 21’s with some leadership would perform better than 70% of our current 11.
    3. What resale value are you on about? As an example. We couldn’t get anything for Pulisic, he’s practically a loss at this point we tried shopping him everywhere. I never said they stay in the reserves. They have contracts. They are tied to the club. They can throw all the s**t fits they want that’s just the reality. Sooner or later they would get sick of being in the reserves, any player who is actually motivated would not be able to stand it. So they would be back. The ones who are not, they are losses already and are just making it worse by playing them.
I do agree with those saying Potter might just be too soft, too nice, he certainly comes across that way to the media, but maybe he is different behind the scenes, although it does not seem like it.
Ten Haag is a great example. He instilled discipline, most importantly he instilled accountability in their culture. And results follow. If these players know there are no consequences, this cycle just keeps repeating itself. How many times have you and I seen this happen? With world class managers and with Potter / AVB types. This is a problem in our culture as a club, that developed over the years because it was encouraged unwittingly. And I’m sick of this cycle, and you should be too.

The situation at man utd shows clearly what a good manager can achieve. Erik Ten hag immediately gave them discipline and showed them who the boss is plus the players know exactly what style ten hag wants them to play.
Looking from the outside both qualities are severely lacking in Potter, there seems to be no discipline, pattern or style of play with us and thats the problem. If i saw just an ounce of improvement or something we striving towards i would support Potter 100 percent.
The only quality i see in Potter is that he seems like a good man, that's it.
I hope he proves all of us wrong but atm our situation is looking very bleak.
  22. Nice One
If I was Potter, I would be looking at two options.
Option 1. Keep doing the best you can, trying to motivate the players. Look for areas you can improve, as well as the players. I believe this is what he is doing now. Not being on the inside there is no way of knowing. If I was confident and saw improvements, I would continue this route.
    Option 2.
Give it till after the Liverpool game, maybe a few more games. If it is still like this. Move every single player bar Silva, Azpilicueta (does not deserve humiliation after past services) and Zakaria to the development squad. Play all or mostly youngsters who actually are hungry to prove themselves. Tell the players before hand, anyone who is not performing this is what will happen. From there you have to earn your place back. This could backfire spectacularly so I would preserve this as break glass in emergency option. But I don’t think the players ego’s could handle getting demoted, some would throw a sh*t fit, and f*ck them, good riddance. Some would fight for their place back to never let something humiliating like that happen again. Those are the ones we want to keep.

Bang on, the instutionalised culture won't change until we make radical squad changes.
We did that where I work, got rid of the bad eggs, and literally within weeks the whole atmosphere and work ethic was incredibly more positive.
