Now for something completely different...
Why couldn't something like that have happened at Anfield on Saturday?

Great shout, Backbiter - I'll remember that game for so many reasons, most of them football related

Are the Omens appearing?
Got a strong feeling that the scouse scum will field a weakened team today, resting key players for the Barca game midweek. Hope I'm wrong, as it's probably the first time I've ever wanted a scouse side to win

OK
Best moment? For me it was seeing Chopper Harris collecting the FA Cup at Old Trafford in 1970. That was also the best Chelsea team I've ever seen - Bonetti, Harris, Webb, Dempsey, McCreadie, Hollins, Cooke, Houseman, Baldwin, Osgood, Hutchinson - and not forgetting Hinton as sub! Also, winning at Maine Road in the ECWC semi-final 2nd.leg to get through to the final against Real Madrid in 1971. Lowest moments? Got to agree with clubhappy, I can still remember the pain I felt at the sale of Peter Osgood, and to this day I've never forgiven Dave Sexton. He sold Ossie and Alan Hudson purely because he didn't possess the man-management skills needed to deal with the situation - the git! Losing to Stoke in the League Cup Final - my first and only Wembley game. Losing at Spuds in April 1975, and consequently getting relegated. Terrible time, but it was only Eddie Mac's 4th game in charge, and he went on to bring through some excellent youngsters as we returned to the 1st.Division within 2 years. Went up to WHL for the game, but was locked out along with thousands of other Chelsea fans - Spuds fans attacked the vastly outnumbered Chelsea fans that made it inside the ground. That made revenge all the sweeter in the following years

Roman got the hump then ?
The Blue connection is the whole point though - most true fans (as opposed to the newbies who just want the biggest name) would prefer someone who was popular as a player with the club to return as manager, as they would know the club's background, they'd understand the fans and what they want/expect, and they'd be more passionate in their quest for success. I'm talking about ex-players who have made an impression as a manager already, naturally. Of course, whether they'd succeed or not would remain to be seen, but that could be said of any new manager. Success as a manager elsewhere doesn't always mean that success will follow him to another club, no matter how highly he's rated. I disagree. Ruud did a great job for Chelsea in the past, and would clearly have built on that success had he not fallen out with Bates. As it was, Vialli got the credit for Ruud's work. Gullit obviously inherited a side from Glen Hoddle that played exciting, skillful football, but he improved on it a great deal, making some excellent signings. His reputation and personality meant that top players wanted to come to Chelsea long before we were rolling in wonga. His reputation as a manager was damaged by his move to Newcastle where his authority was undermined by Alan Shearer. Ruud got no backing from the board because they were sh*t scared of upsetting the fans who worshipped Shearer, and so the writing was already on the wall not long after his arrival there..... As regards his people skills, don't you remember his interviews with Wisey and John Spencer? I'm pretty sure the players loved him, possibly with the exception of Vialli who was left on the bench most of the time. Difficult to choose two strikers out of Zola, Hughesie & Vialli (what a problem to have ) and Vialli usually got left out - such is life.

Ossie
Peter Osgood was the best player I ever saw in a Chelsea shirt. He had everything - two good feet, great ball control, good in the air, superb skill, and before his leg got broken, good pace. He was also a great character, with a good sense of humour, and the ability to take care of himself on the pitch. I wouldn't want the East Stand named after him. It was the East Stand that plunged Chelsea into so much debt we nearly folded, it's usually full of people who show no passion for the club, and it's only a matter of time before it's pulled down (hopefully). The East Stand evokes a lot of bad memories for a lot of Chelsea fans, naming the Shed after him would be far more appropriate - he was a legend to the people who watched from The Shed. But I feel that Ossie deserves so much more than that - he should have a statue erected in the main entrance in his honour, no question!

Roman got the hump then ?
Hopefully it won't come to it, but I've said before that I wouldn't mind Sparky taking over - after all, not only is he an ex-Blue, but he supported us as a kid. It'd also be great to see Super Dan back at the Bridge, but I'm not sure what his management abilities are like. Let's face it, he can't be as bad as Porterfield......or Hurst, or Shellito, and let's face it, my granny could have done a better job than f*ckin' Blanchflower. I'd also be happy if Ruud were to return!

Terry Mccann goes to the Bridge
Not sure about 1981 (I was in the middle of my drowning-in-alcohol phase, and the memory is a bit bolloxed as a result), but I know that when I first started going to Chelsea in 1967 it was five shillings entrance fee for adults, kids got in for half-a-crown, and a programme cost sixpence. By the time I was paying as an adult you could go to the game, buy a programme and a vomit-inducing hot dog, have 15 pints of Double Diamond or a couple of gallons of light & bitter, have a fight, get arrested and appear in court and get fined on the Monday, all for under a score! Ah, the good ol' days, indeed!

Ron Harris' Testimonial
Ah, think I know where you're getting confused here, Katz. Chopper was still a Chelsea player when he had the testimonial at the Bridge in April 1980, but as Ossie13 says, he joined Brentford at the end of the season. At the start of the following season, Chelsea played a friendly at Brentford, with Chopper playing against Chelsea for the first time in his life. Chelsea put out their strongest team, yet lost 0-3 - a sign of things to come in the following season - we finished 12th in Division 2

Last nights fantastic videos
This is very brief, but better than nothing. Love the cup presentation - Lamps grabs the cup out of the official's hands before he could give it to him properly - you can just hear Lamps saying "Gimme that!" Chelsea cup presentation and celebrations

Ron Harris' Testimonial
I can only remember the testimonial Ron Harris had on 23 November 1971, which was against the mighty Rangers! The official attendance was given as 16,362, but I'm sure that the true figure was quite a bit higher - Rangers brought thousands down with them, and it was a good atmosphere. I remember it well, it was the first time I ever saw Rangers play! Both clubs put out full strength teams, and Rangers won 1-0 with a goal by the great Sandy Jardine. Obviously that's not the one you're thinking of, so I had a look in my copy of Ron Hockings' book of Chelsea history. Only game I could find was Ron Harris' second testimonial on 21 April 1980 (players got a testimonial after ten years service at a club). It was Chelsea Present v Chelsea Past , played at the Bridge in front of just 7,760 people. I know I didn't go, which was unusual, I used to go to all the games. Maybe I was saving my dosh, cos I know I went to Swansea away five days later! Teams in the testimonial looked interesting: - Present - Bob Iles (Tommy Langley*), Gary Chivers, John Sparrow, Jimmy Clare, Mickey Nutton (Bobby Gould), Colin Pates, Ian Britton, Mike Fillery, Tommy Langley (Gary Johnson), Colin Lee, Chris Sulley (Peter Rhoades Brown) * - maybe Tommy Langley went in goal when Gary Johnson came on? Past - Peter Bonetti (Tommy Hughes), David Webb, Allan Harris (Tommy Baldwin), Ron Harris, John Dempsey, Graham Wilkins, Ian Botham (Pat Holland), Mickey Droy, George Graham (S.Miller), Ray Wilkins (Jimmy Greaves), Peter Osgood (Bobby Tambling), Ian Hutchinson (Bill Garner) Jimmy Greaves scored the only goal of the game, not bad considering he must have been about 75 at the time Don't know where you got the Leyton Orient connection from - why would they play a testimonial for Chopper at Orient? Maybe you're getting a confused flashback - we won 7-3 at Orient earlier that season!

FA to look into Jose and Arsene entering pitch
That was indeed a beaut! I'm sure I've got a clip of that somewhere - I'll have a look later today and get it posted if and when I find it.

Remember
I heard that too - he sounded like a typical self-righteous prick who's been 'supporting' Chelsea for all of two or three years. People like that are the ones who are slowly killing football for the rest of us - they'd like us to all sit quietly and applaud politely when a goal is scored (for either team). Wonder if his name was Philip? (not the one from the States)

FA to look into Jose and Arsene entering pitch
So true! I can remember Gary Sprake giving Bobby Gould a right hook, and Terry Yorath sparking out an opposition goalkeeper. I even saw Ossie land a couple of decent right-handers! Altogether now, "Those were the days, my friend......"

FA to look into Jose and Arsene entering pitch
Oh for the days of yore, when footballers actually hit each other rather than fannying around pushing each other like the big tarts they are now. Cause & Effect

Carling Cup Final - Build Up & Match Thread
Regarding my previous post, I don't really think that anyone deserved a red card, I was just going by todays rules. If we were living in an ideal world, and I was the referee, I'd have stood back and announced, "Right, get tore in boys!", and let them all get on with it, while dishing out a crafty slap or headbutt to any Arse player stupid enough to come within range

Carling Cup Final - Build Up & Match Thread
I've watched the footage of yesterdays 'mulitiple handbags' a few times now, and have come to the conclusion that the only red cards should have been given to: - Toure, for his reaction to Mikel's foul Fabrigas, for his wrestling match with Lamps, Lampard, for his wrestling match with Fabrigas Adebayor, for grabbing Drogs, and his total over-reaction to everything (this was before he got carded) Eboue, for raising his hand to Bridgey, even though Wayne did make a huge meal of it I'd even consider giving a red to Almunia for racing out of his goal to get involved in something that had f*ck all to do with him The initial offender, Mikel, deserved no more than a yellow. Wish nobody had intervened though, I reckon John Obi would have given Toure a good hiding!

Remember
I listened to the game on BBC Radio 5Live, and throughout the game the commentators just kept on and on about the amount of celery being thrown on the pitch, and what a terrible thing it was They made an even bigger deal of it than they do when bottles or coins get thrown on - I know which I'd rather be hit by
