Carling Cup Final - Build Up & Match Thread
I was just about to post this - 90 minute delays for fans travelling by train due to signalling problems between Newport and Cardiff ....come back British Rail, all is forgiven

Stevie Me does it again
Gerrard's done that in both games against Sheffield United this season, and both times got a penalty. I'd love to lock him in a room with Neil Warnock Just goes to show how incompetent (or corrupt) referees are though - this happens every week in one game or another (every game when Ronaldo plays), yet the refs fall for it every time. They must have an idea which players tend to dive and which ones don't, but it seems that if you play for Manure, Arse or Scousescum you're exempt. Play for another team, and you get carded for diving - or "simulation" as Lawrenson insists on calling it - w*nker.

Giggs does his bit for Anglo-French relations
Well, that daydream I had about dusting French farms with insects & pests seems to have come true - at last.......how did he know it was me???

The Jam to reform and tour. Well, sort of...
For me, The Who ceased to exist when Keith Moon died. I know that one person doesn't make a band, but some bands can never be the same after the loss of a key member.

Giggs does his bit for Anglo-French relations
That's a philosophy I've stood by throughout my life, and it works a treat!

Brady
I didn't think he was Irish. He was Irish in an Andy Townsend and Mark Lawrenson kind of way Cascarino was born in England, of an English mother and Italian father, yet qualified for the Republic Of Ireland and got 88 caps

Brady
I've always hated Brady, he was an excellent player but a prize tosser - I blame Myra Hindley What is it with ex-Irish players, they seem to hate us - Johnny Giles, Liam Brady, Eamonn Dunphy, Tony Cascarino, etc........ Dunphy was a sh*te player at Millwall, and played in the Irish team long before they were good - who the hell decided he'd make a good football critic?

Bluebeard - Chris Burke is really developing into a player!
I've been following Chris Burke's career with interest over the last few years. At one point it seemed that he would never progress to a higher level, but it's great that he's finally beginning to realise his potential. If he can stay relatively injury free he will prove to be a major player for both Gers and Scotland. I'd like to think that Rangers could keep hold of him if they want to, but who knows what the future holds when money is concerned. If they do let him go, then I really hope that the club he goes to is Chelsea. I also think that Kevin Thomson will prove to be a very good signing for Rangers! It's nice to see more young(ish) Scottish players in the Rangers squad, like Burke, Thomson, Alan Hutton, Charlie Adam, Steve Smith, Kris Boyd, Ian Murray, and Allan McGregor, with the main man Barry Ferguson leading them. And plenty of promising youngsters in the youth & reserve teams bodes well for the future. Rangers did well last night in the UEFA Cup, beating Hapoel 4-0, 5-2 on aggregate, to earn a tie against Osasuna in the next round. This league season is beyond repair, thanks to the brain-damaged froggie Le Guen, but just watch Rangers go next season!

Lille protests
Well we didn't do it when Henry scored against us but after that we almost always have a player in front of the ball. So one has got to learn from past mistakes. I bet Lille will do the same. we did. guddy was standing there until poll told him to step back... Remember that well, I'm still bloody angry about it - I'm sure Poll was flirting with onwee just before the kick was taken. And Poll gestured that we play to the whistle, then allowed the goal when the whistle hadn't been blown. I really hope I meet Poll face to face one day, he'd be worth doing time for

Porto...will we progress?
No but it looked horrible. He steped on someones foot and really streched his ankle. Looked to me like Lopez stamped on JT's foot - just hope it's not his metatarsal

Money, Power & Corruption
I mentioned this on another thread, Jack, and I'm with you all the way mate. I couldn't believe how incompetent/corrupt the ref was - he made Graham Poll look half-decent.

Quote from Arsene Wenger
(a) and ( are down to certain rumours that were doing the rounds a few years ago. Doubt if there's any substance to them, but he's just got that sleazy look about him and I suppose it escalated from there © he is without doubt a w*nker of the highest calibre, there's no disputing that

IT Support & Maintenance qualifications.......
Lots of good advice there, thanks a lot people! I've been trying to contact Hastings College, but I don't think they've mastered the art of phone-answering yet - maybe they're all up the Welcome Stranger pub admiring Jose's medal ............I'll have another go tomorrow. I'm seeing someone about training courses in the morning, so I might have a better idea of what I want to do after that. Or maybe not, knowing me Thanks again for the advice, Loz, Mod & BJD - much appreciated.
-
IT Support & Maintenance qualifications.......
Thanks for that Loz. I've already enquired about training, and have been told that there is funding available for some courses. Trouble is, the qualifications that come with these courses don't appear to be sufficient to get a job in the IT field. As I mentioned, the qualification you get is a C & G Level 3 NVQ, which isn't widely recognised when it comes to finding a job. I'm quite prepared to pay for training, I'm not expecting something for nothing - I just want to make sure that there's going to be a job at the end of it - or at least, a good possibility of a job! Your idea about contacting the local college is a good one though, I'll get on the blower right away!

Chelsea?s critics guilty of switching from the historical to
Great article, made a nice change to read something that didn't totally slag us off. But hasn't Martin Samuel been one of the worst critics of all things Chelsea over the last couple of years, or am I thinking of someone else? If it's the same bloke, he's one hell of a hypocrite.

IT Support & Maintenance qualifications.......
I've been out of work for some time due to illness, but I'm on the lookout for a job now and I'm looking at trying something different to what I've done previously. Anybody got any idea what kind of qualifications I'd need to get a job in the IT Support & Maintenance industry? I think I'd enjoy building and repairing computers, but I want to be sure that I take a training course that will be worthwhile to me. One course that was recommended to me gives you a City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ, which sounds very nice but apparently wouldn't get you a job cleaning the bogs at PC World. The length of the course is important too, I'd like to be able to complete the training before I retire Any advice would be most welcome

Jose's Premiership Medal
Haven't been in the Welcome Stranger for quite a while - may pop up there for the Cup Final on Sunday!
