The Unthinkable Question

I'll just come straight out with it.

Roman's lost billions in recent months.

Chelsea's performances of late have been abnormally poor, losing / drawing with teams who wouldn't normally be allowed in our half

The goals we're giving away (far post / near post from set plays) are through infantile mistakes (my 11yr old son's team wouldn't concede them)

Roman can't face coming to matches any more.

So....

Is it conceivable that Chelsea re deliberatley throwing matches / conceding goals against lesser teams?

I'll let you lot join the dots as to the whos, whys and hows.

You'll find me hunkered down in my bunker for the day.

Ok, I appreciate this is idle speculation of the most negative variety but it was sparked in my head by Southend's goal last night. It crossed my mind that we were almost deliberately inviting goals from the opposition, based on a 'surely we can't make the same stupid mistake in 3 consecutive matches?' rant I had with my son.

For those who need it spelt out further, my question is about match-fixing.

This is a practice not unheard of in football circles (hello Italy) which tends to make people in the know huge amounts of money.

Got it?

If you never hear from me again, feel free to draw your own conclusions and try and remember me fondly...

I thought that was what you were driving at - dont betting patterns tend to give it away though - and arent Chelsea a bit high profile for it to be missed

PS let me know if you want me to run your business for you after you've gone!

Youre a clever man, Mike, but I agree with Bonetti. A club at this level could never get away with it. And even if they considered it, wouldnt the example of Juve be a warning not to? That was far less serious than actual match fixing, and the Serie A dealt with them way leniently. I can only imagine how the knives would be out if it was us accused of it.

I think its far more likely that, if Roman has lost such massive amounts of wealth, that he is desperately trying to turn to football as his primary economic interest, and make this team start paying for itself through its revenues. Check out my "conspiracy theory" thread for more ;)

however, I will give you props for looking at the situation from every angle.

Hmm...I think that would be a bit too risky. Roman as a businessman has shown signs of crazy(buying players overprice) but deep down he is a businessman. Don't think so.

Roman for sure has lost lot of money if his dimes are tied to the price of oil. The price for barrel was 150 dollars in the summer and now it is, what 60-70 dollars(?). Even if it was gas or any other material he has lost money. Times are what they are.

Arrr I see, I thought you were drunk... :D

Got me thinking I admit that much ;) ........

Can't see the likes of Lampard and Terry being party to something like that assuming it would need the commitment of all players ??
