itv's fa cup overage

as sh*te as I thoght it'd be, but tonight's highlights were so amateurish...so many games covered in a flash, with commentators sounding like they were in studio back at hq and on work experience...the shock of the day at Portsmouth? covered so appallingly, with one camera angle from the touchline offering a horrendous view...our game? just showed the goals, but went through the pointless exercise of putting commentary on it as if that would fool us into thinking they'd actually bothered to show the game properly...ipswich's performance deserved better coverage than that....even after snubbing kettering - fulham for the live game, they didn't show the game in much detail...plus we are still having to put with robbie earle and his so-called expert views...money doesn't always buy success for clubs and itv's purchasing of footy rights doesn't mean they're good enough to show it!

Have to agree Brit,my own views are

1. The camera coverage of the Pompey game was pathetic,it was like watching a home movie.

2. I dont know who the presenter is,I take it he is Irish, the question is WHY.

3. The studio is sh*te,the ads break is sh*te,the stupid music is sh*te,the GOD AWFUL HOVIS photos are sh*te.I gave up after the Coventry tie and went back to the computer.

4. Robbie Earle ?

it's horrible- even the current watered down cliche spouting smuggery that is the current motd is miles ahead.

the worst thing about itv's coverage, aside from the banality, cheapness, low production values and the fact it's clearly made by people who aren't specialists in the field, is that they pre select their featured games.

after itv digital I don't understand why they're let near british football.

They didn't show one good replay of the Lamps goal and MOTD shows about five good replays. I don't see why BBC don't buy the rights back next season. Fine with the CC to stay but FA is always best on BBC.

Have to agree with all of that. The Pompey coverage in particular was shocking.

Can you imagine Sky having so few cameras at any ground. ITV clearly don't have the funds to cover this properly. The FA should take it away from them.

Edit:

In the last round Chelsea TV were only allowed to show a half hour highlight show of the match. I'm not sure what the arrangement is, but if it was part of the ITV/Setanta contract then that is also an absolute disgrace.

ethical,

what happened with the southend game also happened with the burnley game in the carling cup...namely itv didn't turn up...just had one camera in the gantry to record goals only...they missed out on covering a great story in detail on both occasions as a result. from what i could tell, that was the scenario at Portsmouth yesterday...if they can't do things properly, they shouldn't do it at all

It was terrible - totally taking away any enjoyment of watching football highlights.

Brian Moore will be turning in his grave.

Summed up why I was surprised when I walked across the back of the MH stand. Normally there are several lorries there containing media equipment however this time there was just one and the barricades were much further back than usual. Now I know why.

Interesting, as I thought Robbie Earle was about the best bit.

(that's a reflection on ITV's awful coverage, with that terrible Irish guy, short clips of games, loads of advert breaks and utterly awful commentators and camera angles)

From what I saw of the Southend game there was proper camera coverage but only a half hour highlights package. I don't remember the Burnley game because I never tried to watch it again!

I haven't looked to see what coverage there will be of the Ipswich game, but normally we get a full 90 minute rerun of all FA Cup, Carling Cup, Premier League and European games.

The FA cup deserves better.

The BBC have always given the FA cup the service it warrants, the FA should never give it to ITV again.

It was the same when they had the rights to the Premier League highlights a few years ago. Poorly produced, gimmicky, second rate pundits and irritating to watch.

It even ruined a decent U2 tune as well.

i was referring to the first game at sb...to be fair they showed the replay live, but for many southend fans getting a draw at sb will be as great a moment as they will have ever experienced and their reward? 60 seconds of highlights

Why do ITV think it's wrong for everyone to get an equal amount of coverage?

They give full highlights of certain games and then just a quick round-up with the rest. So what if the show finishes after midnight? That's what MOTD do, why don't ITV? Setanta should be scrapped aswell. It's utterly pointless. Bring back Prem Plus!

ITV has always been sh*te when it comes to sport (not just footy) what f**ks me off the most is when it shows the goals of games shown later in the programme in their 'coming up' slots.

Totally amateurish.

I liked the bit when they asked the guy which side he wants next- he said any of them, but that was a let off- would have ruined a later result.
