loz
Juve got a late win against Torino yesterday but were clearly playing with Tuesday's game in mind as Nedved and Del Piero both started on the bench alongside Tiago and Sissoko. Quaresma won't be available for us and I haven't heard how long Anelka is to e out for. I would expect to see Essien on the bench again as it will be a massive gamble to play him from the start. Given that it is hard to see beyond the same starting eleven that we saw against Coventry.

I'd like to see something similar too, actually. Along the lines of: ...................................Cech ...Bosingwa.........Alex..............Terry.........A.Cole .....................Essien...................Mikel ...Kalou......................Lampard..............Malouda ...................................Drogba Yes? EDIT: Stoch would obviously be the better option to Malouda, but this me thinking realisticly. Edited March 8, 2009 by Ruh Buh Juh
Tim
I would be very surprised, very surprised if Essien starts this game. I know we all want him back asap, but he's only had a half of an FA cup match in the first team so far and I think starting a crucial CL away game is a bit too much too soon. I do hope he makes an appearance though.
just
Like Loz I forsee the same starting line-up as Coventry. Which means Malouda. Which means we effectively start with ten men. So, can we beat Juventus with ten men? Probably, given that I didn't see anything particularly scary about Juve at the Bridge. But there again, we weren't that great either. How about this to the tune of Dean Martin's "Volare" When you sit in row Z and the ball hits your head, that's Malouda.
Paul Seery
It is going to be a tough game for the boys on Tuesday night. Juventus are going to come at us right from the off in search of a win, which means that we are going to have to be very strong defensively. In terms of Juventus's home record in the competition this season they have won three matches and have drawn one. I am hoping that Chelsea can get through but I feel that we should have gone into the game with a 2-0 lead, especially with the chance that Anelka had when he hit the post in the home leg. ozboy
I think Quaresma with his experience in Italy and his speed could be candidate for this one. Bossy, Alex, Teryy Ash mikel ballack frank malouda charisma Drogs

coco
Essien a starter... ? "He will be in the 18, so he's ready to start. Let's see what will happen. We can either start with him or bring him on later, as we did at Coventry, but he's OK and in the squad for the match." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11945_5029876,00.html
coco
Juve captain Alessandro Del Piero believes there has been a marked power shift towards English football in recent years, but that is not just due to financial factors. He said: "Over the last few years there has been a profound change in English football. "There has been a great investment, not just economically but also in the quality of players and coaches with many foreigners coming into the game. "This has given them the ability to mix the typical English qualities with those of the other leagues around Europe so they have been able to improve a lot. "Before they were strong in specific areas but now they are strong in almost all areas." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11668_5030270,00.html
ozboy
Agreed. He's a bit cuptied though :P Details details..... Ok its malouda doo dah doo dah. Actually malouda is ok but just hasn't been scoring any goals. Ballack's hardly scored this season either although plenty of shots and close on a number of occasions. This is going to be a tough game. It wouldn't surprise if we had to a shoot out. Edited March 10, 2009 by ozboy
Orangutan
From the sounds of it Anelka may be able to go to. There was apparently a training session where they were lined up like this: ............Cech......... Bosingwa...Terry...Alex....Ashley ...........Mikel........... Essien......Lamps........Ballack .........Anelka......Drogba I would still expect to see the same lineup as Coventry, though.

So you think we might actually lose this. If it is down to penalties, we are doomed. Seriously though the first 30mins will be really tough defending and the game will look ugly and nervous. End of first half both teams might create a chance. Second half or after an hour Juve will start their pressing and attacking game then we have to be very very ready to counter attack and punish them and defend like rabid dogs. The end for me is still blurry, might go either way... Hoping Essien will play. Not sure if he will start but there is that chance. It is a small gamble but we are in the latter stages of the competition so we need to gamble a little.
sergeyMS
It`s just 12 o`clock AM and CL`s melody is already in my head. I`m already a bit nervous, awaiting, expecting, estimating.... Juventus is going to rush from first minutes, there`s no need for Ranieri to play mind games, that means we cant risk and hope, we should do our best from first minutes too, sticking with match fit players, where we can. As Anelka is injured, I`m sticking to next 11: Bosingwa....Terry....Alex......Cole ................Mikel....................... .....Ballack...........Lampard...... ............Drogba................. Kalou............Quaresma With Essien on the bench.
