Opening day 2009-10

On June 16th the fixtures for the 2009-2010 season will be released by the Premier League. I would like to ask members on here who they want to see Chelsea play on the opening day of the 2009-10 season. For me there is only one team that I would love to see Chelsea start off against: Manchester United at Old Trafford. I accept that we have not had the best of records against them recently but I feel that we are due a result against them, especially at Old Trafford. We have not won there since Tiago's wonder goal in a 3-1 win in the 2004-2005 season.

I don't mind who we have first day. What I care about is the Big Four matches. This season we had a pretty unfair draw playing all of them at home first then going away to them at the important parts of the season. As long as we get a fair draw on that part, i.e. go to Manure and Liverpool away first :5569:

It was the other way round last season if i recall. Its very much luck of the draw.

Anyway, as for first game its always nice for a home fixture i think. Been 4 years since our last away fixture so we are due one sadly.

I'd love us to have Liverpool at SB for the first game. Nothing like a humiliating win over the Scum to get your season going !

EDIT: Paul, we will be facing ManU anyway before the season starts in the Community Shield.

I honestly think it has alot to do with SKY and nothing to do with a 'draw'

How many times over the past few years have we had 'Super Sunday' when the big four all play each other. One early and one in the afternoon 'Judgement day' or 'Super-duper-wooper Sunday' whatever you want to call it doesn't just come out of a bag at the FA IMHO.

Yeah, definitely. They organise the Big games first and then just randomise the rest around them, and changing certain games to fit Sky's schedule.

I can only think of it happening twice.

So the League fixtures are rigged now, along with The Champions League then ? Just to make it harder for Chelsea.

Christ, i bet the FA are gutted they were not able to stop us winning the Cup on Saturday.

No doubt they will make us pay with an away draw against the Premiership side in the 3rd round next year when i no doubt people on here will complain about warmed up balls and how unfair and fixed it all is when it comes to poor Chelsea.

Ok, rant over. Apologies. Sometimes i think we need to take stock and stop playing the victims so much. Leave that to you know who.

I didn't mean for us to sound like victims, I just think SKY have more input on when games are played.

I know they move games around from Saturday to Sundays or Mondays, but I honestly think they have more input on what weekends certain games are played. Just my opinion, no big conspiracy theory, they are the paymaster afterall.

It's not just the big-four, they have other days called 'Super Derby day' when they'll have Arsernal v Spurs, Man City v Utd or Liverpool v Everton etc...Surely it's not a coincidence?

This season I think we had an advantage playing all the big four at home early this season, we should have opened up a gap and sat at the top of the table, we would have only needed draws when we played them away. But we had Scolari in charge who towards the end could'nt manage to beat Hull and it took a last minute winner to beat Stoke.

I don't think that's just a recent thing. Going back years there have been weekends when games have included at least 4 or 5 of Arsenal/Spuds, Chelsea/ West Ham, Birmingham/Villa, Everton/Scum, Manure, Citeh, Geordies/Mackems, Rangers/Celtic, Hearts/Hibs, Dundee/Dundee Utd, etc...

Boxing Day always used to be a derby day too, but not any more, don't know why.

Manu away - lets get the hardest one out of the way

Like the idea, but to be honest, the way we played againt Barca compared to them, is it really such a hard match :P

Seriously I would like a tough one to start, we might get a bit of the new manager syndrome as well.

Without a doubt we will be going to the North Wast for the last game, we always do ! so Sunderland it is then :P

would want a home game against a weak side, though perhaps not one of the promoted sides.

hull maybe.

Hull at home is surelly the next Shed End piss up - just so we can be sure Liam will be there

Since the fixtures come out on my birthday I really do hope it proves to be a great present for me.

I do not want a game against a big team (unless that team has a s*itload of injuries) and at the same time I do not want us to face a promoted team because we all know what a start of the season they sometimes have.

Someone like Hull would be better. Maybe Wigan or Sunderland wouldn't be so bad either.

I'm not too fussed who we get first game. I would say it would be good to get an easy game to start the season with some confidence but remember Scolari's first game was a Portsmouth thrashing! Within weeks, we were crap!
