Not seen the match, easy decision, Joe Cole, welcome back !!!!

e2a: I picked Joe because when I opened this page he was the player on the banner. ::ChElSeaFLag::

I picked Kalou purely because of the goal. I was listening to the radio stream, so I've no idea how everyone played.

Based on what I heard on the radio nobody was particularly impressive. Joe, ferreira and Zhirkov were understandably rusty and it sounded like Belletti was wasteful. Ivanovic was the only player that I got the impression was decent throughout so I have voted for him.

Didn't watch or listen to it so it's pointless voting.

Despite no-one on here actually seeing the match I will stick neck out and predict

Joe COle is going to win this poll!

Be interesting to here what the people who went to the game have to say about the match.

ivanovic has started the season in fairly worrying fashion. it's a concern- again today he didn't exactly exude confidence.

genuinely impressed with hutch- the little he had to do he did well, and looked far more assured (particularly in posession) than branislav.

couple of wrong choices from borini but he looked quite good too. decent turn of pace, already disciplined enough to not wander about. hope he progresses.

went with hutchinson. decent game, not many stand out performers.

I was at the game and sentiment aside, joe was clearly the best player on the pitch...couldn't believe how much work he put in up and down the pitch considering it was his first game...was the one player who showed genuine quality with some nice touches, dribbles and passes and he set up the winning goal...mention in dispatches for hutchinson who wasn't shy to put a tackle in or shout at his team-mates

I could only hear the match, but from that it seemed to me Joe Cole was the best one out there. Always close to scoring and then playing a part in Kalou's goal.

Also, this comment from Chelsea's official twitter helped me picking Joey as MotM: Joey just showed his skills, dancing his way past four QPR players down the centre of the pitch before winning a freekick, brilliant! haha.

Having just watched the match thanks to the links Abramovich provided, I have to say it's Hutchinson.

A brilliant performance from him. Joe Cole had a great game too, but I think Hutch was just a bit better, even though he went off before the end. He didn't put a foot wrong all game, and made some great blocks, tackles and interceptions. Even his passing was quality today. I have to say, I'm quite excited at the prospect of having him in the squad soon. Carvalho is getting on a bit, and reports are suggesting that Alex may well soon leave on a free, when his deal runs out at the end of the season. To have someone as solid as Hutch coming through and also someone like Mancienne as well, could see us well in to the future.

Also I like the word hutch, so to have someone we can call Hutch, is f**king fantastic. Hutch.

Really? I know I shouldn't bite, but Joe was so far off being MoTM that it is untrue. He was way off full match fitness as you would expect. He was pretty much anonymous in the first half but did play a lovely ball through for Kalou's goal before missing an absolute sitter when one on one with their keeper in the second half. I'm pleased that he is fit again and I'm sure he will be an important player for us as the season progresses but I'd question the sentiment aside caveat!

The best player on the pitch for either side was Lampard. When he came on he took control and completely changed the game. However, over the 75 minutes or so that he was on the pitch Hutchinson was the outstanding player. On his debut he looked completely at home and didn't put a foot wrong.

Saw the match last night on telly and for me, it was Joe Cole. Not just sentiment: his energy was great, playing box to box, he was a real threat to QPR and made plenty of chances for others. And as captain, he seemed to be doing his leadership job like he'd never been away. Maybe not our prettiest performance (but whaddya expect guys, from basically a new team?), but Cole was the beating heart of the action.

I agree with great player ratings for Hutchinson and Zhirkov, but that doesn't necessarily make MoTM, IMHO.

We will just have to agree to differ then. At least you and Brit actually saw the match. I still think though that some people would give Joe MoTM just for wiping his own arse.

But ES, have you seen Joe wipe his arse? It's the way he does it. Little step-overs and juggling the toilet roll. Amazing!

i'm not one of them ethical although, unlike Nibs it seems, I haven't seen what he can do with a toilet roll...i gave joe motm cos in a game of little quality he provided the best moments...sure he showed signs of rustiness, but also great play to set up winning goal...also you're a tad harsh on him missing the sitter considering it was his great play that set the chance up in the first place and the keeper saved it with his chin! Besides, it was his work-rate which impressed most...he helped out defensively and it attack, which considering it was his first game for 9 months was impressive...he put a lot more effort in that zhirkov, who was clearly nursing himself back and I had no problem with that...i watched him play against milan in the summer and he was much more dynamic and energetic back then so there is a lot more to come from him

Spot on, If I may add to that, buyer strikes is easy as this is a postion with an abundance of quaity players from around the world. Buying and finding CB is something totally different. To win the champions league I do not think CB are that bigger deal but to get there you have to get into the top 4 in the premiership, you are not going to do this without quality CB.

eh.... liverpool?

they get there every year and their 2 cb's are crap

in saying that, if they didn't have gerrard telling the refs what decisions to make every week they probably wouldn't be in the top 4 so i take your point

Watched the first hour on ChelseaTV last night, and I have to say, Zhirkov has a wicked cross, he defended well and he had a great turn of speed, so I voted for him :D

Hoping for a Ashley/Zhirkov partnership to be strung up in the coming weeks :)

But ES, have you seen Joe wipe his arse? It's the way he does it. Little step-overs and juggling the toilet roll. Amazing!

brilliant

The only problem is that he tries to stick it back up there afterwards!

Saw the game and really liked Hutchinson! Seemed so calm with the ball and didn´t misplace a single pass. Also cleared 2 dangerous set-pieces and was very confident. IMO Joey wasn´t as good as some of you say. He didn´t take players one-on-one and mostly he just passed the ball to Lamps when he could. Good to see him back but I think there´s still lot of room for improvement. Yuri was OK but probably couldn´t still play 100%. But some nice crosses:) Ivanovic dealt with the long balls well and won almost every single header against that gooners´ boy. Borini is pretty fast but wasn´t very confident when needed. Got 1on1 but missed the opportunity. MOM still Hutch!
