loz Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 A win on Tuesday night sees us qualify with two games to spare, in face even a draw would mean only a collapse would see us not qualify Drogba returns to Champions league duty and to be honest it is hard to see Ancelotti making too many changes to the team that has done so well over the past few weeks. He may well have half an eye on the United game though form that perspective we are lucky to be playing on Tuesday rather than Wednesday but, then again, so are United and they have a home match. I think Joe will get some playing time but Carlo may be hoping he can restrict that to maybe 60 minutes. Madrid lost again yesterday going down 1-0 to Atletico Bilbao.
Phillip Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Athletico Madrid were very, very unluckly. Two rockets of a shot from Forlan and Arguero, both from 30 yards or more out, hit the post/upright, and it could easily have been 2-1 to Madrid.
german-blue Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I think, considering the Manu-match coming up and the fact that we are as good as thru in the CL, Carlo will rest a few players. And I think that would be a good idea aswell.
charierre Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Tues will be a very difficult match in a hostile enviroment , we need to put out our strongest eleven go for the win and think about resting players in the final two games if all the results on Tues go in our favour.
bar24rat Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Ancelotti will want to win the group. Thus a win in Madrid will probably be high on his priority list and a strong side is likely to be produced. Cole and Boswinga are unlikely to be risked if available, the rest could well be as is now. Deco or Joe Cole is the question, the united game will be hard and Joe may be kept for it. He has a good record against them. You would expect Drogba,Anelka, Lampard, Essien Ballack and Joe to have the upper hand over Ferdinand(if he plays), Vidic and whatever midfield Ferguson selects. Tuesday to saturday should be sufficient time span.
The Moos Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Any news on Zhirkov? Last I heard was that he would perhaps make the squad against Bolton. Is he ready to play this tuesday? Would be nice to let him play atleast 30 minutes so we can take someone else off a bit early.
german-blue Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Dont really think that the Atletico-Match is really important. Of course winning the group is important but as long as we dont loose to porto and we win against Nikosia everything is perfect.
clubhappy Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Important we dont get injuries with Sundays game coming up but i can see us putting out a strong side to win the group , and id like to see Alex start beside J.T. and i agree its difficult to change a winning line up but i want to see Joey get a full 90 miniutes. I think Sundays game should be a priority but were strong and good enough to see this through.
valim Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Let atletiko win part of deal for aguero they are in cris we simple dont need this win
sals Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Sounds like Drogba could be a doubt for the match, picked up a minor leg injury against bolton. I wouldn't want him to be risked at all even if it isn't serious especailly with man u game coming up. Here the link about his injury http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...drid-clash.html With that in mind my lineup would be -------------Cech --Ivan---JT-----Alex-------Paulo ------------ballack ----Essien-----------Lamps ------------Joey ----Kalou-----------Nico Possibly give florent a start instead of ballack or essien and obviously if bossy or ashley are back and 100percent start them
ozboy Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Couldn't care less about this game really. Put out a defensive side with fringe players and save all the strength for Sunday afternoon. put belleti in the midfield with malouda. Half a game for essien none for ballack or frank. Sturridge can play up front with kalou. Ivanovic and riccy central defence.
midlandblue Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 i think it will be a defensive team and formation.
Mikstaw Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 -------------Cech --Ivanovic---Terry-----Alex-------Ferreira ------------Ballack--------------- ----Essien-----------Lampard-------- ------------Joe Cole-------- ----Sturridge-----------Drogba
The Blue Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Drogba will start according to the Official Chelsea site: http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0...1845065,00.html I don't get why we would want to play a defensive game against a team who concede goals for fun. This is a good opportunity to add another confidence boosting victory against a team that has a very proud home record in this competition. If Drogba really starts he could score a hat trick before half-time against that defence. :o
sals Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I didn't realise paulo wasn't in the Champions league squad. Good if ashley is back but would really rather we didn't take a risk on him with such a huge game coming up in the prem.
The Moos Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I wish someone at the club could tell us what is happening with Zhirkov. First he's injured: fine. Then he is fit, but spends all his time on the bench: huh? Then he plays for a few minutes in one game: great! Then he's injured again: bloody hell. Then he is as good as fit: good. Then he's injured again and wont play: wtf!? I can take that he got injured in pre season and I can take that he might have got a knock during the few minutes he played, but after that I am completely lost. Is he fit or isn't he? Or was he fit for a day and then got injured in training? I was looking forward to having "the Ronaldinho of Russia" at Chelsea, but this guy seem more prone to injuries than Robben at his peak. I really hope this is just down to bad luck and that he normally isn't injured that often.
mad_mac Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I think with Yuri, what has hindered him was while he was fit there was no place for him in the team. It iss my understanding that he's now injured, and therefore can't play
Tim Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 His injury track record so far at the Bridge is worrying though. It's hard enough to break into a winning team without suffering from niggles every couple of weeks, so i hope for his sake and ours that this gets sorted properly asap, He needs playing time, fitness and confidence, then hopefully we'll see why we splashed out so much on him.

Of course winning the group is important but as long as we dont loose to porto and we win against Nikosia everything is perfect. This match is very important and I expect to see our strongest avaliable line up. Lets not forget if we lose the group could get interesting very quickly. If porto beat apoel they are level on points with us and we then have to go there whilst Madrid play apoel . We need to put it all to bed tonight, it's going to be a tough game against with some world class forwards, and certainly very important.

Most players who come from Russian leagues take a long time before they can play, Ivanovic didn't play for ages either nor did Alves at Middlesborough. Also apparently under Zico at CSKA fitness went out the window.
KrazyTea Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Hopefully we're not look past tomorrow for Sunday, it would be nice to wrap this CL group up now.

Which means: even if we loose to Atletico and Porto we will reach the next round as long as we dont loose to APOEL at home. Anyways I dont think that Porto is going to win in Nikosia and Im sure that we will not loose both games against Porto and Atletico, even if we rest a few players. Another thing: Porto´s last game is in Madrid. Cant see them winning their aswell. So I dont think its an important match but thats only my opinion of course. And because of that I would like to see Drogba replaced by Kalou, Joe replaced by Deco again and maybe Malouda coming in for Ballack. Edited November 3, 2009 by german-blue

All ifs and buts, simple way to look at it is that until we qualify any match we play in the Champions League is very important and cannot be taken for granted and im sure Ancelotti thinks the same way too.

PloKoon13 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 If we put out a weak team and perform badly we risk losing the great momentum we've built up with this run of 4-0 and 5-0 wins. Considering we have Man Utd at the weekend, and crushing them in a similar manner would destroy their spirit (as well as establishing a five-point lead over them), so this match is more important than we think. A crushing victory and being one of the first teams to qualify for the next round would lay one hefty gauntlet down for the rest of Europe.
