Saw the new Ghostbusters on Friday which got panned by film critics. Never believe a film a critic, me and my old man both enjoyed it.

I went on the opening night with my son because he wanted to see it.

I hadn't even looked at any reviews until I saw you post this.

It's nothing special, it's nothing groundbreaking but I thought it was quite fun with some nice nods and winks to the originals.

Having now looked at the critical reception I'm a little surprised at just how badly recived it is by critics.

45/100 critic score on Metacritic but an 8.5/10 user review score on the same website.  63% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes but a 95% positive audience score.

Just goes to show that what the "professionals" think isn't always a fair indication of what us mere mortals like and enjoy.

Exactly. If I go to see a movie at the cinema it’s because I want to see that movie, I’m already looking to enjoy it before I see it. I never give ‘critics’ a though because they’re generally miserable c**ts who’ve lost all hope in life.

I think what I enjoyed were the subtle references to the original down to the first bit of ‘music’ being that piano tinkle bit from the original. It was essentially the same story again (but with all the reboot bollocks so is everything) with a few twists to keep it interesting.

I've watched some of the Sky Arts review programs when they take a look at an actor or director with three critics giving their input.

Actually enjoyed it though as for IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings, I do not take too seriously though the user comments are often good.

Watched quite a lot of films recently, new and old:

Red Notice- Ryan Reynolds' usual schtick, which i am getting very tired of.

Jungle Cruise- Actually quite funny, Jack Whitehall is surprisingly good in this.

Shan Chi- Great martial arts scenes but becomes the usual Marvel CGI fest at the end.

Primal Fear- Edward Norton's first film appearance and he's very good in this, some nice twists in this gripping courtroom drama.

Blue Story- About gangs in London, two friends ending up on the opposite sides of a gang war. Very good.

Watched A Hill in Korea this afternoon. A film made in 1956 and is about a British army patrol in the Korean War. A good film with a fine cast including Michael Caine in his first accredited film appearance. Cast also included Stanley Baker and Robert Shaw.

By coincide Caine had spent some of his National Service serving in the Korean War.

Spider-Man. Loved it, partly because of all the oldies from previous franchises popping up which reminded me of a time when I wasn’t fat and old.

Planned to see it after Christmas.

Can't wait to see the return of the Green Goblin and Doc Ock

Watching The Great Escape. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it. Still a great film after nearly sixty years since its release. Two of the leading actors are still alive and one of them had a number one single.

And of course it has that brilliant theme music.

Planning to go and see Operation Mincemeat which is due to be in cinemas next year. It tells of the deception plan to convince the Germans that the Allies would invade Southern Europe via Greece rather than Sicily in 1943. The film is based upon the book of the same name written by the military historian, Ben McIntyre. I read the book a few years ago and will read it again before seeing the film.

In 1956 there was a film called The Man Who Never Was about the operation and that was based on the book of the same name by Ewan Montague who served with Naval Intelligence in WW2. Montague had a role in the film.

The trailer below describes it as the greatest deception. Yes, a great deception but the greatest? I'm not sure. I would say that Operation Fortitude was greater. @Munkworth and @erskblue a film you may wish to see, Some good shots of the Admiralty in it.

Operation Mincemeat the film about the Allied deception plan prior to Operation Husky i.e. the invasion of Sicily in 1943 will be released in cinemas in the U.K. on 15 April. Will go along and watch it. Looks like some of the film was filmed in or near the Admiralty Building. Spent a few years working there so hopefully there will be a few places I recognise.

@erskblue and @Munkworth Think you'll be interested.

Went to the cinema this afternoon to watch Operation Mincemeat. A good film with a fine cast and worth seeing but I felt some of the poetic licence was unnecessary but no where as bad as The Imitation Game or Braveheart. Operation Mincemeat was certainly a key moment in the Invasion of Sicily in 1943 and when it came to deception, spying and code-breaking it is fair to say that Britain was ahead of other countries. Good that the roles of Godfrey, Masterman and Fraser-Smith were depicted in the film.

I think some of the film was shot in the Admiralty Building and in the Middle and Inner Temples.

Going to see Lancaster: The Feature Documentary at the end of this month. Film about one of the most iconic aeroplanes of WW2. Looking forward to seeing it. It's made by the same company which made the documentary about the Spitfire. @erskblue and @Munkworth hopefully a cinema near you is showing it and you get to see it.

Everything, Everywhere All at Once- brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Michelle Yeoh utterly mesmerising.

Goldfinger (in the cinema as part of 60 years of James Bond)- an incredible experience for someone who had never seen it on the big screen.

The Lost City- Dragged to the cinema to see it by my wife. I love Sandra Bullock in anything so was relatively happy. Probably Daniel Radcliffe’s finest performance.

Goldfinger is a great film and my favourite James Bond film. Some great lines, the wonderful DB5 and the lovely Honor Blackman.

On the topic of Bond films a couple of months ago I saw No Time To Die at the Science Museum IMAX. It was okay but at the end of the film I felt a bit flat and underwhelmed by it.
