Cult TV series.

I remember being a kid and watching the Prisoner and Danger man, man in a suitcase..

anyone remember Lucky Fella..Del Boy before he was Del Boy ?

of late though about the only thing i tried to watch every episode of was Life on Mars..Gene Hunt proper 70s Old Bill :getmycoat:

Good call with Life on Mars Chippy. That was a brilliant series. Shame it went downhill with Ashes to Ashes. I think to be a cult, a series shouldn't run & run. That's the difference for me between something like Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones and The Office and Only Fools and Horses. The latter went on for so long that people grew tired with it, whereas the others you were left wanting for more.

Don't remember Lucky Fella, yet I do remember The Secret Life of edgar Briggs which was early to mid '70's I think. Very funny for a 10 - 13 year old Nibs at the time!

Used to love Randall & Hopkirk (deceased) when I was a kid too. Still watch the odd re-run.

And comedy - how about Spaced? Again, watched some re-runs over the weekend and my son loved them.

Spot on with Ashes to Ashes, I watched it for the nostalgia value but not a patch on Life on Mars.

Lucky Fella had David Jason playing a bloke who drove a little Hienkle (spelling?) Bubble car...he seems to like the old three wheelers.

Randall & Hopkirk was great, not like the Vic Reeves rip off and I always watch it if I notice a rerun,

I dont remember the Edgar Briggs one for some reason, I remember some cowboy thing the girls used to like called Alias Smith and Jones for some reason.

I still like the original Minder and it reminds me of growing up with my elder Brother who was a motor trader in the 60s and 70s and mixed with a lot of the type of people

Arthur does in the series..I still know a few of them now, Mainly like seeing the old Cars though pointing and going I had one of them.

I just about remember Adam Adament but can't say I know what it was about..Lucky Fella did drive a Bubble car (Hienkle I think) it was about David Jason fancying a girl that was more interested in his brother who was a bit of a ladies man, sort of like Jason playing the Rodders role. funny though.

used to love man from uncle too, and great shout on red dwarf andy.

Budgie and Callan were both classics.

Well done, Bluebeard! Callan was unmissable. Lonely and Callan together were a superb team.

The Prisoner was definitely one of the best cult series ever.

Alias Smith and Jones was hilarious (not sure it was meant to be.) Every episode had the same plot. Baddie keeps goading Smith who keeps his temper and doesn't retaliate. At the very end Smith lets him have it with both barrels, barely stopping what he's doing to take aim. Don't think I'd describe it as cult, though. Didn't Pete Duel commit suicide? (not, I hasten to add because the series wasn't considered "cult"!)

Budgie and Callan were both classics.

Used to like Adam Faith in Budgie..even had the Jacket with the big Collar :D

Callan was pretty good and as DKW said Man from Uncle was another decent shout with Robert Vaughn and the bloke with the wierd name.

It's strange how everything seems better when you look back on it, I spent a lot less time watching Telly then than now unyet I complain about the crap thats on nowadays..Grumpy old Gits rule.

What was that thing with the bloke who sang greats like "Reggae like it used to be " or "grandmas Party" :D I've remembered now as I typed but will leave it to jog your memories.

Just Good Friends, with Paul Nicholas? Used to love that show, and I'm still waiting for the 3rd and final series to come out on DVD. I used to fancy Penny (Jan Francis) something rotten!

Black Books and the Mighty Boosh

::clap2:: boosh are fantastic, though very marmite. if you get it you love it, if you dont you hate it. i get it and love it, seen them live twice too.

We have more in common than I thought! I think Boosh are hilarious!

But for real cult TV you can't beat The Prisoner.

Is it cult tv because no-one can understand what the hell's happening without the help of powerfull mindbending drugs?

have you ever watched "Flight of the Conchords" moi? also a programme i love, though not a lot really happens.

I love Flight Of The Conchords. And I think the fact that not a lot happens is a good thing - a down on its luck band aren't exactly going to get much action, in any sense of the word.

I've never seen it, maybe because I don't have the channel that it's on. But if not a lot happens, I'm sure I won't like it.

Somebody else mentioned Monkey - I used to be really grateful that I had kids who watched that so that I could watch it without feeling silly! It was great! So was A.L.F. - but I'm not for one minute suggesting it was a cult programme. In fact the more I think about it, the less I know what a programme has to be in order to be considered "cult". It can't just mean that lots of people watch it because if so ... Vicar of Dibley? Please NO!

Can't believe no one's mentioned The Simpsons - the best cartoon series ever made, end of.

Doctor Who, timeless. (oh, pun!)

You're quite right about the Simpsons, but that's what I meant about "cult". Can someone more cool than me give us a definition of what c0onstitutes a "cult" movie/programme?

I see a "cult" tv show as one that you associate with a period of time. For instance, Fresh Prince of Bel Air is a Cult Classic for 90s kids, like myself, whether it's cult for others though, is debatable.

Or, a "cult" show is one that simply everyone (barr hermits) have either seen (you needn't've watched the whole lot, just an episode even) or heard of it way or another - I've heard trumendous things about Pheonix Nights, but I've never seen a full episode, and many class that as a cult tv show.

That's my definition, anyway.

But really, that's just popular, which isn't the same. "I'm a celebrity etc" seems to be popular but calling it "cult" would somehow put it in the same bracket as "Withnail and I" which would be sacrilegious!
