brainman Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) What's wrong with Anelka? He is not playing as a striker / center forward anymore. He is following the ball and clogging up our midfield. He needs to touch the ball less and take opposition players away from Drogba or Lampard (or which ever midfielder is approaching the box). God knows he might get a couple of goals himself. He is becoming a ‘problem’. I don’t think he does it on purpose or that Ancelloti is telling him to play this way but it is clearly not working. You know why Anelka almost never gives the ball away? Because 99% of his passes are safe, short, sideways passes. And does he even bother to run into the box any more? No. Joe Cole on the other hand is a complete and utter waste of footballing talent. Bar half a season here or there and a couple of recent performances for England he has been the most over-rated player ever. I want him to do well but he needs a boot up his are – Joe Cole you need to get your sh*t together. JT performances are okay – but what is happening is the opposition fans are creating a noisy atmosphere and energy out of hate (starting with him as the base). And the opposition players are feeding of this and ‘upping’ there performances. So has the JT saga affected us? Yes it has. No questions. But we have more than enough quality to overcome this. Pace? Anelka has it but rarely runs in behind defender, Drogba has it but not when he is running with the ball (his control when running is poor). Malouda has some but rarely any end product (i.e. Valencia). Kalou is a sheer waste of pace and SPERM. Look up when you pass, fool! In the absence of any true pace we need to pass the ball quicker like the Arsenal or Man Utd. Edited March 1, 2010 by brainman
Ossie9Dixon Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 brainman, your first sentence says it all. Anelka is'nt playing as a striker. He needs to be up top with Drogs or on the bench. When he's out of position he can't be bothered. I was surprised to see you say he does'nt give the ball away as I think he does it often when not up front. Against Inter he was a liablity. He continually ran into a group of players, gave the ball away and never bothered to try and get it back, seeming to spend the game sulking. As for Joey, he's been out injured for quite a bit of the season to be fair and needs a bit of a run in the side to maybe help get his s**t together. I'd like to see him out wide personally.
CFCCAN Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 He is playing a roaming role given to him by Ancelloti, at times he is to polite...hence when he should have taken a shot Saturday with a gaping hole between him and Given he went sideways...why is beyond me when he has shown he has a great shot. Your right at times he can clog the middle of the park, at times he plays wide right and breaks inside, seems to me looking at the body language he and other players look tired and drained with all the JT crap. It has taken its toll as I have said time and time again, as a result it will have an adverse effect on those around him...we might well settle for the FA Cup right now as everything else is seemingly collapsing around us. As much as I love this team, what has happened during the last few weeks should be a concern for all CFC fans. I hope that we can get something from this season, they are a very good team but they don't play like one at the moment. They need to get their sh*t together and quickly. My belief is that Arsenal who have the easier run in between us and Man U will take the title The title will be one and lost in two games, Liverpool away and Man U, if we do not take max points we're toast unless the other two implode and you know as well as I do Ferguson won't let that happen, Wegner on the other hand will be doing cartwheels but he has the belief, we don't. The team is in denial especially Carlo, he cannot be happy with a one point lead given the remaining fixtures. This weekend will show what character this team has...I hope they prove me wrong and go on to win the title...it will be a squeaker though...
Liam Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Drogba has it but not when he is running with the ball (his control when running is poor). It's hard to take you seriously.
The Moos Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I think that if you actually study how Anelka moves on the pitch you'll find that even though he doesn't score loads of goals at the moment he is incredibly useful. Do not underestimate him.
CFCCAN Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I agree Anelka at times is superb especially when he can drag the opposition out of position leaving the gap for the midfield players and Drogba to run into, the last few games he has not done that...not sure why any ideas?
clubhappy Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 My biggest issue with Anelka at the moment is his inability to play a simple pass when he has the ball, he always tries the difficult option and usually gives it away . He's very comfortable in posession and rarely loses it until he makes things difficult.
icecoolguy22 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I remember Janunary he had one of the best spell since he joined us, scoring and creating goals for fun. Maybe fatigue and form drop ( like the rest of his mates)? The thing I don't get about Anelka is, even at his best, he is all over the pitch. In the Man City match, there were several occasions he was back at the half way line when we had the ball just outside their box. If he is to form a partnership with Drogba, surely he shouldn't be 30-40 yards away from his mate. I imagine a different striker, e.g Villa or Owen, would make a living just scoring goals from layoff and nod down from a monster like Drogba. Maybe Anenlka is just trying too hard too much?
mad_mac Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 T get the best out of Anelka, I think we'd need to resort back to the diamond. He played much better when upfront with Drogba. Now, in the Christmas tree formation, he is drifting further and further back, then holding up the ball far too long.
ThunderDan Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) He seems distracted and I haven't seen that before. But he can play anywhere on the field, so everyone's positioning solution is right. I'd have a 4-5-1 with plenty of defensive responsibility, but not for him. Edited March 2, 2010 by ThunderDan
just Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I think that if you actually study how Anelka moves on the pitch you'll find that even though he doesn't score loads of goals at the moment he is incredibly useful. Do not underestimate him. If you'd studied him closely on Saturday you wouldn't have seen that. His movement was awful. Most times, whenever one of our midfielders/defenders had possession and pushed forward into Citeh's half, he moved back towards them and either closed off their space or took the ball from them. Enitrely the wrong thing to do. He should have been moving forward in front of them looking for space and trying to stretch their defenders. Also, could anyone work out where he was actually supposed to be playing? He drfited all over the shop and left Drogba woefully isolated. And lastly, he no longer has the pace he had as a youngster at Le Arse. He can still be a real asset to us but, (like quite a number of others), Ancelotti needs to sort him out, and quickly.
blizeH Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I was watching MotD with some friends on Saturday night and they were absolutely going nuts over Anelka "Fair play he's quality, I f**king love Anelka" and I was quite dumbfounded by it all, they couldn't believe it when I said Ivanovic (and many others) had a much better game than Nico. A Tottenham and Liverpool fan respectively by the way, not the sort of people you'd usually find waxing lyrical about a Chelsea player. I can kinda see where they're coming from too, on MotD he was involved in a lot of our main plays and certainly contributed more to the match than any of our other forwards, but when you see the entire game it definitely paints a different picture, with Anelka quite often getting into silly pointless positions, holding up play and often even playing the ball backwards.
ivorycoast Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 It's hard to take you seriously. Actually, he is spot on. Drogba's dribbling game has been sub par this season.
rahul Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Actually, he is spot on. Drogba's dribbling game has been sub par this season. This season? When was Drogba a good dribbler?
Liam Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Actually, he is spot on. Drogba's dribbling game has been sub par this season. Which of course is not what he said, and also not true. Now I can't take you seriously either. I realise there is plenty of hysteria around at the moment, despite us being top of the league, still in the cup, and with an away goal in the Champions League, but criticising the greatest striker in the world, and in particular for an area in which he excels, makes me hope, for your sakes, that you are both joking.
Liam Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 This season? When was Drogba a good dribbler? Oh dear. You're all in this together aren't you? Or do I misunderstand? Are you taking about his post-urination penis handling methods perhaps? Or his post prandial chin cleansing procedure? Because you can't be talking about his ability to run with the ball while terrorising opposition defences.
cooke Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 to be honest guys i like Anelka , but i think he has been asked to do something differant and the pettit lip has appeared
mad_mac Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I wouldn't say Drogba is a poor dribbler, he has shown moment sof sublime touch and sill. However, I have seen him get too eager at times and try things that he's simply not capable of. He is a powerful man, with great touch and an amazing eye for goal, but he's not like Messi or Ronaldo when it comes to running at players. I'd actually say dribbing is one of the weaker parts of his game, especially when it comes to trying to take a couple of defenders on at once. But that is being overly critical!
ColeMan Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) I believe that if both DD and Nico are to play, we need to go to a 4-4-2, Anelka is wasted out wide. Our main problem at the moment is lack of pace, and without Ash and Bossy I'm pretty much at a loss to see where we can get any pace into the side. But, the biggest miss is Michael Essien, his drive and determination are sorely needed, and the sooner he's back the better. If we go back to the Sunderland game, it was a joy to watch how the midfield rotated positions, where has that gone to ? We commit too many players forward, as evidenced by both centre halfs being out of position for the 2nd and 3rd goals against Man City.(On rethink they were both in position for the 2nd goal but still manged to balls it up) We can't defend at the moment so maybe its time to tell the defenders that their main job is to defend first and foremost. Why Carvo and JT burst forward at all times is a mystery to me. The more players you commit to an attack, the more defenders track them and congest the opposition penalty area. If we must persist with Anelka out wide, then we need to play more counter-attacking football, get the ball to him early, against fewer defenders, and then he can kick in the afterburner and leave them in his wake. Maybe its time to go back to basics before its too late. Edited March 2, 2010 by ColeMan
ColeMan Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I got it wrong in my edit, they were both out of position for the second 2 goals.
laxman209 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 To be truthful you all pretty much act like a pile of hicks, long jaws no teeth. Drogba is sh*t end of story. A lazy c**t who gets a few goals. J.cole is playing fine, and has set up many goals for us this season. If you think he's playing bad.. hm ok go f**k off and watch your superhero Steven Gerrard.
Mod Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 If there was ever a post to sum up a 'troll' or 'trolling', that would be a pretty good start. So you have not been watching Drogba the past 4 years or so then?
