Of course he shouldn't be punished. He only showed that they needed two goals to win the game. All he was asking for was that the ref watched him closely so that he could dive and try to get a freekick or a penalty.

Various stories but the most popular and verified account is that it dates back to the Hundred Years' War, where French infantry would make the sign to the English longbowmen as if to say they would cut off their shooting fingers.

When I said that on another thread, Loz took great joy in telling me it was apocryphal!

However, during the second world war Churchill reversed it ( i.e. did it with the back of his hand towards himself) and used it as a V for Victory symbol.

The insulting one is done with the palm of the hand towards yourself, and often with a jerky movement of the hand. It means f**k You! In Scotland we call it giving someone the Vicky!

...and the english would proudly wave their fingers as if to say 'you haven't cut them off yet have you, cheese eater!'

so the FA bottled it as expected, it really is a joke how this f**ker gets away with so much. if it had been a Chelsea player then the FA and the media would have hammered us, yet this tosser gets away scot free and barely a whimper in the media. lets just wait until a Chelsea player crosses the line next and see how they are treat.

It's the most popular story but it's also an urban legend.

Everything about Gerrard is offensive

Especially his career when you consider all the hype.

"Greatest midfielder in the country" "Only a matter of time until he puts it all together and makes Lampard look like a bootboy"

Now he's 30 and his team and career are going nowhere. Well in, stevie, a career at talksport awaits you when you hang em up.

Elbowing Micahel Brown last night.

If he gets off with this I will be enraged. Because the ref gave the foul does this mean he will get off no problem?

Referee Stuart Attwell was in close attendance, but took no action and it now remains to be seen whether he will mention the incident in his match report.

It should not matter if Attwell mentions it in his match report or not, either way Gerrard must be banned for that, simple as that, its meant to be football, not cage fighting.

Did he not give a free kick, thus meaning he saw it?

I have mixed feelings about it, if he gets banned then he will miss the game against Utd.

but then again, they most likely will get hammered anyway..

I have to agree (unfortunally) on this..

As much as I despise the cheating dippers, I for one would cheer if they manage to get 3 or 1 point off United on Sunday.

Hmm. The annoying part of football.

Well, remember that 4-1 last year? It was pretty much out of the blue.

They still show him kissing the camera after he scored at Old Trafford before every Premier League game in their program video. Freaking pisses me off.

i just want the liverpool fans to have to sit through weeks of everyone telling them he's not fit to be captain, should be banned, doesn't deserve to play for england etc... but they won't because he's not JT. never mind that he's done something on the pitch that you'd get arrested for on the street, at least he didn't sleep with his mate's ex bird, right?

The FA have now said they are gonna review the video evidence. Thank god common sense actually previals for once.

If he gets banned, Liverpool will most likely appeal to have him back for that game. Unless they think they can turn Man Utd without him, once again.

Eitherway, it will be a weird, sick feeling rooting for them ;)
