Backbiter
The R5L reporter said it was in our hands before the game at Ewood but isn't now. He said before today we had to win all our games to win the title but now that's not the case. Well, sorry mate, but what's REALLY changed? Before today: Our form is crap - Still is Anelka is playing crap - still true Not subbing your off-form striker before the 90th minute is a bad idea - unlikely ever to be not true We score first but let teams back in -predictably true CA is tactically clueless - still true Kalou is Kalou - strange but still true Deco should never be picked again - still true A midfield without pace is not a recipe for success - still true Ferreira is no longer any good as a third choice full back - true After our first choice we have no top keepers at the club - still true Essien's injury is proving calamitous - still true Joe Cole contributes next to nothing, whether in the team or on the bench - very true Refs and linesmen keep shafting us - no change there If we win all our games we win the league - STILL TRUE We won't win all our remaining games in this form - still true. ScandiBlue
Well if we had won today we could have afforded a draw at Old Trafford and possibly another at either WHL or Anfield. Now we probably have to win at Old Trafford to ensure United drop some points(can't see many others troubling them) and also get at least 4 points from the other two,and win the rest of course. We had just about enough room for one slip-up and we used it against Blackburn. And I think you're being harsh on Ferreira,Turnbull and Anelka. TheWestwayWonder
I agree backbiter. The only things that have changed, for me, is the points tally, the fact that we didnt bounce back, and the fact that the Mancs won probably their hardest game outside of when we play them. The ramifications of that game against the Mancs are just massive. We will know for sure on that day.
TheWestwayWonder
And I think you're being harsh on Ferreira,Turnbull and Anelka. Seconded on that. Anelka faded in the game, but I though Ferreira did really well, especially starting on the left. Turnbull definitely wasnt at fault for the goal and did okay, aside from that flapping cross

Turnbull definitely wasnt at fault for the goal and did okay, aside from that flapping cross People forget Anelka is doing a job for the side playing out of position every week,so he needs to be cut some slack. He's one of the best centre-forwards in the game(certainly top 10 imo) but he never moans about not playing there,he just gets on with it and for the most part does well. I thought we started fantastic today and kept it up for the whole first half,we looked a lot more dangerous and active with Malouda in the midfield three and the pace of Drogba,Anelka and Kalou up front. But they just came out cold for the second half and never got going until it was too late(a bad habit we've gotten into this season)
BigIzz
I'll be shocked if Arsenal or Man Utd is able to run the table from here on out the way this season has gone. If either of them or Chelsea win out, then they deserve it. But this title race should be in the bag by now (although I suppose United could think the same about themselves). I bet there are still a few twists and turns in this one.
icecoolguy22
It's already out of our hands. Are we going to win all the remaining matches? NO, even if we get Essien and Cole back. We are relying on Man United and Arsenal dropping points, hopefully this will happen when the CL resume. We have no one in form apart from Malouda, and we are not catching any luck either. We really should have a 5 points lead if we played anywhere near decent in the past 6-8 matches.
Backbiter
It is in our hands to take points off United, so it's not true to say we are relying on Manure to drop points. If we win all our games neither they nor Arsenal can match us.

If we win all our games neither they nor Arsenal can match us. This is true, it's still in our hands. If we beat United at Old Trafford then we're still in with a shout. That's the only way we win. A draw between Arse and Utd would also help. Not sure we've the mentality to do it though, 3 point lane isn't as lucrative as it once was and I'd say we'd need to get something at Anfield to get over the line. Either way it'll be close. I was pretty damning of our chances last night, but a few hours of sleep have restored some hope that we are capable. In our favour is the fact that we are always more up for the big games in the league than we are for the lesser opponents. That for me translates into a blind hope that we'll lift with our hard draw and after throwing the title into the fire, somehow manage to pull it out again. bjd
We had just about enough room for one slip-up and we used it against Blackburn. Thats how i see it too. I think we now have to win 2 of the 3 games at Anfield, WHL and Old Trafford and i just cant see it happening sadly.
Andreas
Its not over yet seeing how the season been so far, got to remember Utd and Le Arse still have CL. One slip up in the league from them and we are back. Now we need to win every game that we get. its going to be though. Zola
Normally I am very optimistic...but... I believe the wheels have really spun off this time and there is no hope of us getting the league. We simply have too many difficult away games.. and our standard has become very poor. I have basically accepted it, as of yesterday, that we wont be getting the league and a rebuild is a must. I like Carlo though, and believe he deserves another full season or 2 to put his direction on things.. then be judged after.. BLUENUT
For those relatively new to supporting Chelsea, we lost the title a couple of weeks ago against Man City at home! Honestly, we really did, well, that was the consensus of every Chelsea supporter I spoke to on the way out, we knew it then! Everything that has happended since then is just 'fall-out'. That City game made everyone realise we are beatable if you want to have a go at us. They asked several questions that day, and our response was to let in 4 goals and get 2 players sent off. Our lack of focus was there for all to see, defensive errors, then a lack of dicipline when it all went wrong! Yes we have suffered injuries, but if this team cannot dust themselves off after this weeks defeat to Inter and look hungry against Blackburn, then they are not going to be up for a fight at White Hart lane, Anfield or Old Trafford. We are just not picking up enough points to finish at the top, just check the results since beating Arsenal away. Slip up, after slip up!! When it got to squeeky bum time, Carlo shat himself - all starting in that game against City!!!
charierre
Forget about the ManU game , the pompey match now is the biggest game of the season. Not only do we need to win it , we need to win it well if only to give us the confidence and belief again.

icecoolguy22
Man City game was a TKO to our title ambition, but we dropped way too many points before that game. I think the problem started after we beat Arsenal at home, and Carlo said something along the line of 'we can win every game from now on', then we lost to City and drew to Everton, although we picked up some wins after that, we never put in a good string of results. Carlo may got a bit too confident at the time, and never prepared for the plan B and reinforcement in Janunary. Back to the original topic. Mathematically it is in our hands, but for god sake we need to find insipration from some where, maybe after a good night of sleep Lampard back to the player he was 2-3 years ago. Backbiter
After the shocking display at Spuds and the all-too inevitable last-second Manure winner, we still have control of our destiny. We have NEVER been comfortable as favourites. Remember the CL QF 2nd leg? We had one leg and 4 toes in the SF after the 3-1 away win at Binfield, but just couldn't deal with it, and only started playing when they went 2-0 up. You would have hoped the fact that Manure stole the game and closed the gap would have helped get us up for today, but the entire side - bar Cech - were dsimally below par today. we got what we deserved, and 2-1 was very generous to us. Our GD advantage could easily have been wiped out. At least Spuds being in pole position for the 4th spot should prevent them going to OT and just lying down next week. On this form they can give them a proper game - Manure aren't exactly in peak form at the moment. JT's absence could be a huge factor against Stoke, and if Drogba is unfit the aerial battle could be a nightmare. Can't see Carlo picking JC and Deco in the same side again - JC was pathetic at Spuds, and Deco wasn't much better.

Let's just hope that Ivanovic & Ashley are fit enough to finish the season. Although he may be pronounced fit, I'd rather leave Essien out until the start of next season, give him proper time to get fit - a lot of his problems have arisen from coming back from injury too early. dkw
looking at the coming fixtures for next weekend i can see Spuds taking points off the mancs, it is then up to us to beat stoke. It is still in our hands and the only good thing to take from yesterdays defeat is anytime we have had a big loss this season we seem to have been able to bounce back and go on a decent run. bluewilky
Well its ours to lose, thats obvious hopefully we'll get a good result against stoke and not another shaky performance like the bolton game, to prepare us for liverpiss.
