Final whistle goes, hundreds of Brum fans storm onto the pitch and head for the Villa end. Missiles being thrown by both mobs, including a flare which has been thrown back and forth between them. Villa chucking seats, Brum fans being pushed back by the Old Bill, commentators on 5Live shocked and surprised, not sure why - Birmingham & Villa f*ckin' hate each other! Just like the old days, love it!

Had a look at that and it was the calmest mob I've seen. Apart from the odd bottle, they just stood there and shouted (fortunately, of course). If pitch invasions are to happen, they should all be like that.

Must admit, I only heard about it on the radio, they made it sound like a full scale riot. Of course I should have known better, as Hutch says, youngsters these days have no idea about making a proper pitch invasion, sadly a sign of the times :D

Maybe one day we'll see a return to the good old days, but I very much doubt it - youngsters these days haven't got the bottle to fight unless they're tooled up. I live in hope! ;)

I didn't see it either.. but reading Virosh's comment, I thought about starting off with "when I was a lad" but thought better of it!

I was at St Andrews in 84?? for an FA cup tie, Brum Vs Spammers, Zulus Vs ICF, now that was a pitch invasion and a half, could hardly see a blade of grass, they managed to pull down the fencing around the away end.

Chelsea v Sunderland, Milk Cup Semi-Final 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge - now that was a pitch invasion! Police horses on the pitch when Sunderland scored a goal, great stuff apart from the result.

It was a very strange situation. I suppose that such things happen very rarely in England...

Steve - Did you run to the pitch during the game against Sunderland? ;)

My favourite memory of being on the pitch has nothing to do with hooliganism. Remember when Eddie Mac took us up from the old Second Dvision? After the last home game of the season there were 100's maybe 1000's of us on the pitch. The players and Eddie Mac were up in the East Stand were cheered as they gave speeches. Eventually the Old Billl sent in the horses to clear the pitch, but it was quite wonderful while it lasted.

I remember that day well, Hull City at the Bridge, 4-0 victory and promotion, great day! There was a pitch invasion (mostly kids) after every goal to the point where the ref was threatening to call the game off - don't think he'd have dared though, to be honest. I'm still mightily pissed off that Eddie Mac was allowed to leave.

Another great pitch invasion was in a similar vein, 83/84, 5-0 thrashing of Leeds, just about everybody on the pitch afterwards. The only down side was the police stopping us getting at the Leeds fans as they smashed up our scoreboard, but watching the SPG batter f*ck out of the northern c*nts was well worth waiting for. Another great day!

Same game, different pitch invasion!

That "Chelsea are back" video shows a pitch invasion that (so said Brian Moore) threatened to have the game called off. The one I'm talking about was after the game had finished, with speeches from the players and Eddie Mac well after the game had finished.

I got across the pitch from the Shed and into the East middle. I gave John Sparrow my hat.

Great stuff!

Now you mention it,. I remember there were a few fans, or maybe just a couple, up there with the players.

Anyone remember the bloke who pretended to be a press photographer at the side of the goal so he didn’t have to have to go back in the shed?

I remember that day well. Great occasion!

I was in the benches towards the shed end and managed to get onto the pitch. I wasn't aware those Leeds c**ts had caused so much damage to our scoreboard until after the game though. It took years before it was repaired. I remember Bates had asked the police to let the Leeds fans out at the end of the game, but they refused, so having to watch us celebrating the bar stewards just had to cause trouble.

Yep, remember that one well and was also on the pitch. What struck me was there was a dip in the pitch about 10 yards outside the penalty area at the Shed End - it must have dipped a couple of feet but was never aware of it until I actually trod the hallowed turf.

A couple more I remember:

1) Chelsea v. Oldham last game of season 79-80. A lot of people in the crowd got the wrong update on the radio that one of our rivals for promotion (Leicester I think) were losing and so there was a massive pitch invasion following the 3rd goal in a 3-0 win and then at the final whistle. Sadly our hopes were quickly dashed not long after the end of the game when we found out that we had actually missed out. The fans still stayed on the picth to give the players (particularly Clive Walker) as sendoff though if I remember

2) Chelsea v. Wolves FA Cup QF 1994. After several near misses we finally made it to Wembley for the semi against Luton and there was a big pitch invasion at the end. The old away end was being knocked down at the time so the away fans were stuck in the East upper. It was all good natured enough although perhaps it might have been more challenging for the stewards if they had been in the lower tier.

I remember that as if it was yesterday, I was only 16 and couldn't believe my luck as everyone surged onto the pitch. I remember grabbing a big handful of turf and stuffing it into my pocket for some strange reason. Not sure what I intended to do with it. We just ran around with the big giant blue flag for about 10 minutes with everyone trying to get a bit to grab hold of. As you say it was good natured all in all. I wonder if stuffing the away support up in the East upper might be worth doing again.
