Wolverhampton Wanderer v Chelsea (PL) 05/01/2011 19:45 GMT

Featured Replies

Wolves, who currently sit rock bottom of the Premier league, come into the game off the back of a 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

Every time we fail to win during this current run of form makes the next game even more of a must win. We should have beat Tottenham, should have beat Villa. The one thing I don't want to hear is "we should have beat Wolves". The pressure is on, the players need to rise to it.

Nothing less than a win will do. No excuses accepted.

Agree mate, but Wolves despite being bottom are not a push over, they turned over the bin dippers and played some nice footy in the process. Earlier in the season at the Bridge beat them , was it 2 nil ? but they showed up and gave Chelsea a game.

I expect 4 3 3 again. I expect the same line up as Villa except Bosi & Ivan back and Paulo & Bruma benched. If they score against Chelsesa first its going to be a grind, cant watch live as back working.

All things considered top players dont become crap overnight, the team out there (less Ballack, Belleti & Deco) scored 103 prem goals between them last season. This sh*te run has got to end, and it may as well be on Wednesday. I predict an away win 1 or 2 nil, I would love to see a goal fest but aint holding my breath.

COME ON CHELSEA

I probably shouldn't bother posting my preferred starting 11 as I'll only get wound up when Carlo picks the same old, same old but here goes anyway.......

-----------------------Cech--------------------------

--Ivanovic----Bruma------Terry------Cole-----

----------------------Essien------------------

-----------Lampard--------------Ramires---------

-----------------------McEachran-------------------

------------Drogba-------------Sturridge---------

Subs:

Turnbull, Bosingwa, Malouda, Kalou, Kakuta, PVA

I'm sure we all know what the team will be though

Ferreria and Anelka must go, I don't mind another match from Bruma, but I doubt Carlo will risk it. Boswinga at right back, Sturridge comes in for Anelka. If we cut out the defensive errors we had in the last few matches, we should win this match. Our attacking isn't at our best, but 3 goals against Villa wasn't that bad, especially with Anelka did nothing for 75 minutes. Carlo benched Drogba when he was off form, it's about time the other non performing players get a kick in the backside.

We've got 10 points in our last ten games, Wolves have nine.

Wolves have 9 points from their last six at home,

we've got 5 from our last six away.

On current form it's a toss-up at best.

We scored three times against Villa and I think we'll score more this time. At the same time our defence will be better (unless Ferreira plays).

Chelsea wins 5-1

it would be nice to see sturridge start instead of anelka, inject pace into our attack for 60-70mins,then with tired defenders bring on nico for that extra bit of class.

Tough, tough game this one; Wolves will be tough to break down and probably be thinking that there is a possible victory in this for them. Our forwards continue to struggle, we may have scored 3 against Villa but look how we scored, a penalty, a goal from an out of form striker and a goal from a Central Defender...they all count but I feel, like many others we are struggling up front. Lampard is begining to find openings with the little flicks and over the top balls that have been missing of recent months, if we can take advantage of these openings we should be looking at a 3-1 win anything less I am sad to say will be all but end our hopes of retaining the title and drag us into a dog fight for the last CL spot. ::ChELSeAFaN::

As others have said given our current form this is no easy game (though what would be!?). IIRC they gave us a decent game last year at Molineux, but hopefully we can just pull something out. If Anelka starts I can't imagine how annoyed Sturridge would be, surely he'd do no worse.

4-0 Win

2 for Drogba

2 for Bruma

2 for Bruma? Maybe 2 minutes played. Maybe 2 times he has to get up and stretch from the bench. Anybody who is quoted saying that a goal wasn't his fault after a game shouldn't play in the next.

I'd like to see something like that too. Although Essien's current form makes him a liability in the holding role so I'd probably either try Josh or Ramires there. and move Essien into the middle with Frank pushed up as the attacking midfielder.

Realistically though this is what I expect we will see:

-----------------------Cech--------------------------

--Bossie----Ivan------Terry------Cole-----

----------------------Essien------------------

-----------Lampard--------------Ramires---------

-----------------------Malouda-------------------

------------Drogba-------------Kalou---------

Subs:

Turnbull, Ferreira, Anelka, Bruma, Josh, Studge

Most likely with Ferreira coming on at around the hour mark when we need a goal. We can hope though.....

I'd almost bet that Anelka starts

Almost? Guess you didn't see this.

“They have difficulty in this moment but Drogba scored today,â€

“I hope, in the next game Anelka can score.â€

Dont really understand why Anelka starts game after game to be honest. He has been poor for quite some time now. And it doesnt look like hes getting better at all

Great lineup, would love it if we entered the game with this

3points in this please. I really liked nibs lineup that i saw earlier although it would never happen unfortunately. Arsenal citeh this weekend will at least give us a chance to make up ground on the teams ahead of us

If you're talking about those "Bruma: I was not to blame" headlines, that was goal.com. This is what he actually told Chelsea TV:

About the goal:

I was marking my man. I think everyone else was, or maybe someone forgot to mark his one.

About Heskey:

He's a very strong guy. Obviously, when you play against a striker like him, you can't win every ball. You can't come always in front of him, because he's so strong.

And this:

Everyone knows Premier League games are always fast, quick, strong, so if we don't play our game then they will play their game and you will see that they will dominate us," the 19-year-old said.

It can happen. At the end, we were dominating them again and then you saw that we scored a goal.

After, I think we should've kept the ball and been strong in the marking because the guy from Villa had a free header.

What this clearly demonstrates is the way people take deliberately misleading headlines ("I was marking my man" becomes "I was not to blame") without bothering to read the actual text and then go on to quote these headlines as fact.

The actual text, "maybe someone forgot to mark his one" is the key remark. I agree with Brew Crew that he should be dropped on that count alone. What is surprising is that such a divisive comment should find its way on to the official website. Perhaps no one's in charge of that either. Time for a Russian hairdryer maybe.

Right. You're with Brew Crew that he should be dropped on the way goal.com misreport an interview with Chelsea TV. Here's an idea, why don't you watch the interview first then come back and tell me where Bruma says he wasn't to blame:

CHELSEA TV ONLINE: BRUMA'S START

I tell you what, I'll make it even easier for you:

Q. Do you know what happened there, because if he hadn't headed it there was another one?A. Yeah there was another one. Yeah I think everyone has their own marker, I was marking my man, I think everyone else was, I think maybe someone forgot to mark his one.

So goal.com turn a waffly "I don't really know what happened" type reply into "I was not to blame" and now the two of you are calling for him to be dropped on the back of it.

We have to bear in mind that he and others simply cannot play twice a week at this stage of their careers. Carlo is burying his head in the sand by refusing to adopt any kind of squad rotation. Better to do it now than wait till it's forced on you, possibly in the crucial stages of the CL.

Two things.

1) He said "maybe someone forgot to mark his one" in the interview, and that was the remark I objected to because it comes across as a veiled criticism of senior players. I haven't read the Goal.com article by the way, but he was clearly implying he wasn't to blame.

2) Don't be patronising by offering to "make it easier" for me when you've clearly misread, or decided to reinterpret, my post. I think they call that a straw man argument
