Police drop assault claim over Blues skipper

Chelsea defender John Terry will not face a criminal inquiry over claims that he injured a steward near the end of a Premier League match, police have said.

West Midlands Police confirmed that officers had decided to take no further action after viewing television footage of the incident during Chelsea's midweek match at Wolves.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that a complaint of assault had been made by Wolves steward Patrick Steadman following Chelsea's 1-0 defeat at Molineux on Wednesday.

Mr Steadman told The Sun he had suffered whiplash and was considering taking legal action after being pushed in the chest as the Chelsea captain retrieved a ball which had gone out of play.

A Chelsea Football Club spokesman said: "Video footage of the match clearly shows any claim to be ridiculous. The club will vigorously defend itself and its player against this frivolous claim."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We can confirm that a man attended a police station in Wolverhampton on the afternoon of Thursday January 6 to make a complaint of assault following an incident in injury time of the Wolves v Chelsea match the previous evening.

"The man is a steward at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and claims he suffered an injury after being pushed by a player during the course of the game.

"After viewing the footage of the incident, police will be taking no further action with regards to this complaint."

I was there, Terry barely brushed him but he collapsed backwards and threw himself onto the floor, Wolves fans made it worse. Some people just wind me up. Probably thought he could get a big payout.

Just read this on Sky Sports news, What an absolute c**t. Just out to make some money. Probably wont have to go there again after this season.

the irish sun had a page with four murder stories all on one page then turn to the nexted page is a full article of this sad steward who wants to get a few quid of a chelsea player the media or scum.

Quote from article "as he (terry) did so he said something like t***"

Something like? It's not a hard word to remember - you sure? No? Shame sounds like it would have been a good description !

Apparantly Bridges ex allegations have been refuted! I wonder if Capello will give him his armband back now.

I thought that was all established last year Ben. The Mail even published an apology hidden on of their middle pages. Or is there a further development?

Interviewed on February 27 last year, the Italian said: 'Until the World Cup, Terry will not be captain again. After the World Cup, if I remain as manager, I think not.'

Since then, Terry has been very publicly snubbed. Speaking earlier this season, he complained that he felt humiliated as the armband was passed around several team members in a friendly with Egypt last March.

'I felt, "OK, I've been stripped of the captaincy, but don't take the p*** out of me",' said Terry. 'I think they would have given it to one of the stewards ahead of me.'

Cappello if he had any guts/sense would have made the F.A find a way for J.T to keep the armband prior to last years world cup.We didn't have enough quality to leave an asset like the best football captain in the world unused to his full capacity, still thats in the past now,but the one thing that's still relevant today,is loyalty, something Cappello and the F.A. know nothing about. If they and the media wouldn't stand united behind J.T & the team then and they won't today either.

The fact he even took the captaincy of JT showed to me that Capello has no bottle and just goes with what hes told to do by the press etc. Everyone knows that on the pitch JT is still a leader for England, much more than Gerrard or Ferdinand could ever be. The pathetic way he handed the armband to everyone other than JT in the last match was embarrassing, JT should have taken it off one of them, ripped it up and walked off refusing to ever play for a national team with the ungrateful tits who turn up just to boo players.

Sadly for us, that Mail article seems as baseless as all their other crap, but I think the country and Capello owe JT a big apology and it wouldn't be entirely out of line for them to come crawling back with their tails between their legs begging forgiveness. Luckily JT isn't some w**ker (unlike Wayne Bridge, for example) so he'll just get on with it.
