Special One back to England

Featured Replies

Jose Mourinho made a statement last night featured in The Sun about his future and has admitted that he has decided to come back to England and to the Premier League. I think it's safe to say that since he has left Chelsea he hasn't exactly got on with everyone in Italy and in Spain. He has had the success we all know he has had and fair play to him. Reading this you can have no argument whatsoever with what the he has achieved and I am sure like me back in May, you watched his Inter side lift the Champions League with envy.

Jose's time in Italy as far as the results go was fantastic but he failed to build the same relationship with the Press he had in England. He fell out with more or less everyone outside of his "circle" at Inter. Did he care?, of course not. He brought the trophies to Milan. Despite what the outsiders thought of the man they couldn't argue with results on the pitch. However, Jose knew he wanted out and took his chance back in the summer.

This season at Real if you look at his record and he is getting result's on the pitch once more. Real have won all ten home games this season, six away games and have drawn three. Jose has only lost one league game and that was to the enemy, Barcelona. Real didn't just lose the game, they were hammered in one of the most complete footballing displays I think I have ever witnessed as Barcelona thrashed Madrid 5-0 in the Nou Camp. Jose looked a beaten man and admitted himself afterwards that his old side were "Fantastic!".

In recent weeks we have heard reports of Jose and Madrid President Jorge Valdano's relationship becoming strained more and more as each week passes. In any other league Madrid would be sitting pretty, but Barcelona sit above them, four points clear and having dropped only five points so far this season.

There are reports that Jose and Valdano have fallen out over signings and potential transfers, there were even rumours that Jose wanted Didier to join him in Madrid!. Whether or not that happens at some stage is yet to be seen but for now it looks like he has settled for Adebayor on loan until the end of the season.

No matter what happens, questions will remain and will continue to be asked about Mourinho and his future. He refuses to confirm he will be in Spain next season. When asked to elaborate Jose made a statement that will remain the focus of speculation in the media for weeks. He said:

"I've decided to return to England. I have nothing prepared about my future - I just want to be happy in my work. I have no preferences about Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea. I just want to rediscover the joy. I'm not saying the Premier League is the most spectacular in the world but it is the best organised... the fair play and the enormous respect for your opponent."

Jose has always spoken of with fondness of our game and of England ever since he was forced to leave. He has always stated he will return one day. Whether or not we take these latest comments with a pinch of salt is another thing however.

You can bet your life his statement/message or whatever you want to call it will be heard and noted by the likes of the owners at Manchester City, United, Liverpool and even dare I say it, Chelsea. With additional rumours of an American takeover at Roma and Ancelotti being asked to go back there to manage the club, I just wonder.

Roberto Mancini will know he must finish well in the Premier League with the money he has spent. Kenny Dalglish, although seeming to do a great job in changing the fortunes of Liverpool and with Steve Clarke (Jose's right hand man at the Bridge) already there, Anfield could become an option.

Whatever happens and I know some people will agree with me, some won't but that's part and parcel about having an opinion, I believe our game has missed Mourinho. I have missed Mourinho and will always have a place in my heart for what he achieved at the Bridge. I will never ever forget the feeling knowing we were champions for the first time in 50 years so think of him what you like. He will remain special to me.

Between now and the start of pre-season in July, I just wonder if we will really see him back in the Premier League and where his destination will be. In my heart (and ONLY if Carlo leaves) I want him back here but I believe his future could be at Anfield. Hodgson sacked, Dalglish asked to come in and steady the ship as Stevie Clarke is brought in as stage one by the American owners. They will want the best and will be aware of Mourinho so stage two is to bring him through the door. If it happens so be it. Even though I have said what I have about the man if he did take over at Liverpool, for three hours a season I will hate his guts!!.

If Carlo get sacked in summer..get Jose Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge? ::ChElSeaFLag::

I doubt he'll come back here. Not only does he seem like a man who wants new challenges all the time and is not likely to return to an old team (maybe during his final years as a manager), but would Roman want him back?

If he comes back to England then I would not be surprised if he replaced Ferguson. Though seeing as Ferguson seems to never want to quit he might have to pick another team instead.

Liverpool? :shok:

I don't want to see him back at Chelsea, but to quote Nibs and Bonetti in the SASS thread, I still would. (sorry big G!)

He will come back to England. I know he will. It won't be to us though. I'm trying to convince myself it won't hurt to see him at another team, especially Manyoo, but by god, it will.

If he ended up at Man Utd, Man City or god forbid...Liverpool. I don't think I'd be able to forgive him. If Carlo leaves at the end of the season, I think we should seriously look at getting him back. But if we do, Roman needs to give him more time and more control, so he can build from the ground up, because our squad is aging fast at the moment. 2-3 years max per manager isn't good, each one will be looking only at the short term, we need a manager in for at least 7-8 years, with time to bring in young players and establish them in the first team.

Totally agree.

I want Carlo to stay (despite my criticisms of him from time to time) but there are a lot of rumours about him going back to Italy.

IF we lost Carlo, then I can't think of anyone else who would be up to the job. By the time Mourinho left us, I had got rather fed up with the type of football we were playing and also how lacking in dignity he could be - especially when we lost. But I think he has matured and he can get something out of a group of players that no-one else can.

So I hope Carlo stays, but if he doesn't there is only one man to replace him for me.

Jose is not the Fergie or Wenger type, he is not likely to stick around and build a team slowly, and yet he wants to have their authority when it comes to running the club.

If, and when he leaves Real, he'll have two realistic destinations and they are both located in Manchester. City will pull all stops and throw all the money to get him and Fergie may see him as a successor at United where the club's prestige may entice him. Wherever he ends up, his confrontational personality is likely to get him in trouble eventually, and I doubt he'll last longer than he did with us at any other club (his time at CFC still remains his longest tenure).

If anything, Mourinho's time with Chelsea proved that he's only a short term solution, even if he's successful at first (and he normally is), the effect eventually wears off and the very things that made his team initially so strong and combative, start to work against them in a long run. Jose never really thinks in a long term, it's all about 'win now' mentality, which is a great selling point for any club that covets success, but I think the long term consequences of this approach are never on his mind because JM never really plans to stick around longer than two-three of years, no matter where he goes.

In that respect, City would probably be an ideal place for his future endeavors, since they are so obviously desperate to "do a Chelsea", only on an even bigger scale. Plus, he'll always be in Fergie's shadow at ManU and I doubt his huge ego can handle it.

Would be special if he came back, but im 100% behind Carlo and don't want him to leave and besides that I doubt Mourinho would want to come back, would he? He is a man built for challenges and the only thing left he could do here would be the Champions League.

I'm happy with Carlo if I'm honest. Jose is and always will be a fantastic manager, but Carlo seems to be happy to be a long term solution, like some have said, Jose isn't that. Let Carlo establish himself, he could well be a nicer, better version of Fergie if we give him time.

Carlo comes over as a lovely bloke. But he had a lot of time at AC Milan, and didn't make them into a dominate force.

Dont want him back at all, it would just be a car crash waiting to happen. The minute we hit a bad patch how would we know they wouldnt fall out again? How would we know Jose would hang around for more than a couple of years which is his raison d`etre. If he came back then there is no way we would be a stable club, we would always be one game away from melt down. The old adage of "you should never try to replicate former glories" holds true.

3 CL finals and 2 CL wins in the space of 4 years isn't too bad in his defence. And when Milan didn't win the Scudetto they were always near the top. He didn't do too badly.

I thought it was just 2 (one includes that terrible night in istanbul), but am sure you right.

I really like Carlo, but think he does make mistakes, and not convinced by his ability to change a game.

3 finals, 2 wins. Milan won the CL in 2003 at Old Trafford against Juve, fell apart in Instanbul against the scousers in 2005, then got their own back against them in 2007 in Greece.

I don't think he's really got the bench to be able to change a game. I'm not sure any manager in the world could do much better with the squad size we've got and the injuries we've had this season, coupled with the chopping of his right hand man. He's doing as well as could be expected when everyone else is strengthening their sqaud and we're kind of cutting back.

Like you say he seems a nice bloke and I think that's genuinely helped the club's image. We're more likeable now than we used to be. I know that's not the be all and end all, but it's nice to not be as roundly despised as we were back when Jose was around spouting off. I like us having a classy manager amongst the other rabble that is Wenger, 'Arry and SAF.

Roman basically fired Jose, easy to see why 2 men with massive egos = conflict. Why come back to run a team he would not have total control over regarding buying and selling players etc. etc. Roman did apparantley gift him a very limited edidtion flash motor (ferrari ?) after the fact as a thank you, but that was probbaly to piss him off.

I could see him at City, they could afford his required high compensation package and already have all the players in place to easily win a few trophies with his expertise.

He has already taken his rightful place in our history books, but a return to 1st team manager....I wouldnt bet on it.
