Looks like a couple of hundred of people there. I remember one game in the mid to late eighties - I think it was against Oxford United in the Full Members Cup - when there was about a dozen fans in the away end. After a while the stewards moved the Oxford fans to the East Stand so they could closed the North Stand for the evening.

Interested to know as it was before I was around - which, say, 5 teams tended to take the most to the Bridge back in the 70s and 80s? Were there any big teams who took surprisingly few and likewise any small teams who'd take good numbers?

Liverpool were always pathetic in the 70's and early 80's the only time I can really remember them bringing a lot was the day the won the title last day of the season.  Pre-segregation in Div 2 Forest were always impressive PLymouth, Cardiff and Bristol City turned up, not in huge number but decent for those days.  IMO Spurs have generally been very good but even they had surprisingly low numbers sometimes.

Manure came in numbers but a lot would have been London Reds. Although didn't look great 77/78. Funniest thing I remember is around 1990 played Crewe in the fa cup, not many on the north terrace. The game was a few minutes old when what could have been 1-2 trains worth came flooding in and the whole ground stood and applauded!!

I thought Chelsea had played Rangers much earlier than the mid 1950s.

Can't find any record of it though.

Got that one wrong.

Erksblue, found the following link:

http://thechels.info/wiki/Matches_against_Rangers_F.C.

They played each other three times in 1954. Twice in Canada and once in the U.S.A. A win each and a draw. Here's a picture of one of the programmes:

Boyne: Cheers mate.

Erskblue, you're welcome, mate. Have found some more information about the tour of the Stares in 1954. We had to borrow a goalie from Plymouth Argyle.

http://homepages.sover.net/~spectrum/year/1954.html

Chelsea F.C. (England): May 9, 1954 through June 6, 1954. Record: 5 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses.

Roster: Roy Bentley, Ronald Greenwood, John Harris, Richard Kitchener, James Lewis, Peter McKnight, John McNichol, Eric Parsons, William Robertson, Alan Rule, Derek Saunders, Peter Sillett, Robert Smith, Leslie Stubbs, Sidney Tickeridge, Stanley Wicks. Manager: Ted Drake.

5/9/54 Chelsea 3, Fortuna 2 (at Randalls Island, NY)
5/16/54 Chelsea 0, Rangers 1 (at Montreal)
5/20/54 Chelsea 7, Rockets 1 (at Baltimore)
5/23/54 Chelsea 1, Borussia 6 (at Randalls Island, NY)
5/26/54 Chelsea 6, New England Stars 0 (at Fall River, MA)
5/30/54 Chelsea 2, All-Stars 0 (at Harrison, NJ)
6/4/54 Chelsea 4, Rangers 1 (at Toronto)
6/6/54 Chelsea 0, Rangers 0 (at Randalls Island, NY)

Note of interest: Part way though the Chelsea tour, Chelsea lost its goalkeeper
with a serious injury. Argyle, going home before Chelsea, allowed them to borrow Shortt.

Perhaps never before? and definitely since has there been such an entertaining football struggle as this cup final and reply.

Those that attended or tuned in on old wooden box TVs witnessed a cracker, dirty Leeds were conquered - we won the rest is history -- fantastic-

Wonder who's clip that is ;-)

Have found another copy of the clip. Shown on BBC2 in 1990. A series called Building Sights.
