I was at school with Wally Downes, played for Wimbledon and a few others.

Never could work out how he made it as a pro, but that was in the crazy gang days.

Saw him coaching at West Ham a few years back, I look positively thin compared to him, he must have eaten a lot of pies

He drinks in my mate's local in S Bush  everytime he came in he'd say how clueless Avram Grant was.

Ive just found this some great pictures and good read from a Boro fans view what a game this was

Was there that day, and yes it was interesting to say the least, but it didn't seem anything like the Sunderland Milk cup semi final in 85, that was on another level as far as I can remember.

I think it's been posted before what's startling is the fenced off bit in the Shed there were fans in there but the lower tier of the East Stand (old gate 13) is very sparsely populated as it was the family section at the time.

Yes I think gate 13 ceased trading really after the milk cup v Sunderland in 85, also the wooden benches became concrete blocks after the Sunderland semi final, think the police took quite a bit of the wooden benches home with them that night in 85.

Amazing how he turned from a centre forward to a decent full back.

Agreed, the same with Kenny Swain.

Just checked as I thought Kenny Swain had won full England caps. Appears he didn't !

Mind you he didn't 'do too badly ' when he won a League Title a European Cup winners medal after leaving us

Happy Birthday to Colin Lee, who is 64 year old today.

Strange how Colin Lee, an ex Spurs player was accepted by Chelsea fans, yet Mark Falco around the same time wasn’t.

Falco got the worst reception I’ve ever seen at Rotherham in 82

Falco was on loan so I suppose it was just a way of saying we don't you but Colin Lee and a few years later Micky Hazard were permanent transfers so no point booing someone just because they played for Spurs. Micky Hazard was brilliant but Hollins never rated him unfortunately still baffles me how he could have left him and Pat Nevin on the bench against Man United we were terrible that day.

Still must have been a bit of a kick to the ego going from the arguably the most glamourous position on the pitch to the least. At any level of football if someone said to you it's not working out at centre forward I'm going to play you at right back you wouldn't be happy. I think John Neal either realised John Hollins was to old or got injured and had to replace him with someone and Colin Lee got the gig. He was ok in the second division but lets not forget he got replaced at right back the following season by the legend that was Darren Wood !
