Speedie, Dixon and Wee Pat all arrived from lower leagues and went on to become internationals. John Neal was a good judge of a player ( Darren Wood excluded)

It really pissed me off that we had a better team than them that year, but the next season they won the league, and the following year won the European Cup, when we were relegated. Not that Forest were undeserving - what they did was miraculous - it's just that our financial position meant we invested nothing in the team when they bought Shilton, Gemmill and Burns and improved beyond all recognition.

Clough moaned after the game said the East Stand was horrible and the dugouts were crap. 1990 I think it was I was in the East Lower we were playing Forest these two blokes came in just after half time and spent the rest of the game taking the piss out of Clough doing impressions and taking the piss out of his acting cause he'd recently been in an episode of Boon 🤣
February 12, 20224 yr Was at this game. If I remember correctly the crowd wasn't big which was a shame for such a great player and servant of the club. I can't recall many testimonials after John's. The only one I can think of is the one for Eddie. Can anyone think of any others. Cheers. Edited February 12, 20224 yr by Boyne

Testimonials never got big crowds I never went to any although that's cause as a schoolboy you saved your money for league and cup games. Dennis Wise had one about 99 I think it was the game was on that Live TV station the one with the topless darts and bizarrely had Eric monster monster Hall as co- commentator. Zola had one which I went to although it was advertised as a celebration match or something.

There's an using book by a fella called Gary Bell called animal QC. He went on to be a top lawyer, but knocked around with the Forest mob in the 70s. He tells some good storys about that loony Paul Scarrott. At Derby he got slung out the Popside for fighting, paid to come back in again at the tier above....started shouting down to the Derby fans...got so enraged the dived down on his own and steamed in..
