Looks like you were right @just got to admit I didn't think that part of the Northstand was used after 1981 my apologies etc 😆.  40 years next year I was 18 where does the time go one of my abiding memories was my mate that morning got a wet look haircut and everyone in the Shed and it was baking hot was getting sprayed with hair lacquer every couple of minutes 🤣 Never seen this picture before it's class.

Bluehaze did you, (or anyone else old enough), ever come across John Ingledew back in the day? He was a photo journalist who was a rabid Chelsea fan. He always had a camera at games  His photos of the club fan culture at that time are really timeless works of art.

He had a photo book published called 'View from the Bridge: Chelsea - the Fans, the Finals, the Shed and the Celery'.

I still have my copy and it is a fantastic piece of Chelsea nostalgia and recorded social history.

Was also 18, and had been stripping a roof which is very dirty work. Planned to go home and clean up, but job run late so drove up in my rusty white pick up with no hub caps or road tax, parked on Bagleys Lane, met me mates and The Rose.

Cut down jeans, hobnail boots, black as a Newgate Knocker. Cross between Al Jolson and Dick Van Dykes chimney sweep.

My copper brothers Leeds supporting mate who he went to Hendon with, and was a bit of a headcase, got arrested that day and thrown out the Met.

One of his mates has posted in the vintage section about his books the photos have been on the net for a good while now I posted many of them in the past. Don't think his mate was happy but as I said they have been in the public domain for years and unless you have copyright there's nothing anyone can do about someone posting photos online. They are quality pictures and bring back memories as kids we would do the same at Wembley bunk in or wait till the gates opened with about 20 minutes to go.

Spoke to John a few times over the years when I used to go. Decent bloke and a genuine fan.

When the 3rd round draw of the FA Cup came out everyone thought “ I hope it’s not Carlisle”

Worked at Sellafield briefly in the 90’s. Had nights out in those wonderous fairylands otherwise known as Carlisle and Workington.

Sellafield how the bloody hell did you end up there can't have been offered that in your local job centre🤣. All through the early 70's final league table in the old 4th division and Worthington have applied for re-election got voted out in 1977 and replaced by Wimbledon.

Went to both those games Carlisle and Oldham as you say. Probably our lowest turnout for the season although still reasonable. I was in the seats for Carlisle and remember a bloke wearing a chef’s hat falling over the edge at the front down on to their paddock. Don’t know what happened to him. Oldham away terrace was open end and so cold!!

Sellafield got expanded 92- Major construction project- my firm had 150 blokes and I was the only Londoner. They used to call me The Drury Lane fan  dancer.

Couldnt hack Cumbria, so got transferred to Sc**thorpe, which made Workington look like Vienna.

Quite handy for watching Chelsea games- Sheffield Wednesday midweek etc

Workington had a decent team at one point. Managed by Bill Shankly before he went to Liverpool. We even played them in one of the Cups in the 60's.

Top picture. Carlisle away on 22nd Oct 1983. Wee Pat was our No 7 that day. A 0-0 draw. Checked on the bounder.friardale site.

That was Peter Osgoods debut. He scored both goals. League Cup in Dec 1964.

The great John Neal  got rid of 8 players in the second half of the 82/83 season, with 2 at the end of the season.

Bob Iles

Micky Nutton

Gary Locke

Timmy Elms

Pop Robson

Gary Chivers

Paul Williams

Alan Mayes

Kevin Hales

Two more went before the start of the following season

Micky Fillery

Phil Driver

Imagine in the current climate he probably wouldn’t have had the chance to change it around.

He bought in 6 new players +

Micky Thomas half way through 83/84

Still got rid of the following during 83/84

Clive Walker

Peter Rhoades-Brown

Chris Hutchings

Alan Hudson

John Hollins (retired at Christmas)

What an achievement in a year to change a squad so much with great results.

He came across a very nice, gentle guy, but he was ruthless in the way he got rid of the players he didn't want, and his assistant Iain McNeill was hugely successful in finding real talent at a bargain price in the lower divisions and in Scotland. (Not sure who thought big Doug would be a great addition).
