Great pics Carshalton brings back some very fond memories. Back in the day me and my mates would automatically choose the shed or benches these days you just grab what stand you can get a ticket for, oh how I love progress.

I know what SB i prefer & it doesnt include plastic seats with plastic tourists.

i'm with you on that Carshalton, it wasn't the smartest ground but to us it had character with a bunch of characters inside. We could start a whole new thread on the people we used to see around the ground and i'm not just talking about the ruckers, great place to be on a Saturday afternoon it was such a laugh it seems so more serious now!

Message to Eddie macs blue and white army, any chance of re-posting either Ipswich or west ham away 77/78. I know you've had trouble with people abusing your posts. It was My first season and would love to see footage playing in the all yellow kit. Wish I had been able to have the kit, got home kit for my 10th birthday. Don't think back in the day in the mega store sorry porta cabin!! You could get junior away kit. Got the yellow and green following season.

When was the stand in the Northstand demolished,as I cannot remember it ever being there when I first started going in 1973 I could be wrong though..

That's only half of it left in the above picture. It must have come down in the late 70's, I remember Plymouth climbing over the fence and going underneath it to escape the first year in Div.2

For the life of me, I cannot remeber it being there and funny thing is I just looked up the first game I ever went to which was Chelsea Vs Everton 1973 which we won 3-1 I always thought it was a night game as I can remember standing near the bovril entrance and it being dark, I now realise it was in winter and it must have been towards the end of the game, I was 8..

It is funny how the mind plays tricks,my first home game was against Birmingham city ,wednesday  5th Sept 1973 ,we beat them 3-1 in front of 25,660.

I sat in the west stand but to this day i could swear the old east stand was still there and of course the north stand. But looking on line now if looks like the old east stand came down  at the start of the 1972/73 season ie a year before so i guess it must have been a building site but i cant remember that either .I was a similar age to Marmion ,but just a bit older being 10

Someone kindly help me out and let me know for that game what the east stand would have been like as it is now doing my head in - cheers chaps

had to look it up,but east stand opened in 73 mate

Thanks down the front - much appreciated although i am now a little sad that i never saw the old east stand even if, i would never  have remembered it either way ! doh

My first game 72 stood in the old East Stand, at the end of the season they knocked it down. As for the old stand in the north stand it was there for a long time after that although it was deemed unsafe and no one was allowed in it. Except I remember being there when Raquel Welsh was there and she was paraded around at half time, she was sat up there I think along with an American Band with cheerleaders.

Think it was there for a long time after that they just didn't knock it down.  Unless my mind is playing tricks with me.

Out of interest anyone remember them selling the seats in the East Stand when they knocked it down? Anyone got one? Think they were a hundred quid. Don't we just miss Master Bates!!!!!

Apologies for being the picky one, but the East Stand opened for the first game of that vintage relegation year 74/5 against Carlisle with the previous two seasons being played in a 3 sided, and one building site, ground.

Am I correct in assuming that the Lower Tier on the New East Stand was originaly going to be terracing because there used to a little bit of new Terracing jutting out of the North End of the stand which was never opened to spectators?

cheers Eddie Mac, really great to see. Especially the West Ham game, was live on LBC radio. Remember hearing Tommy Langley went in goal. Can't believe I didn't see it that night on tv. First time I've seen it and I'm in my 46th year!! Thanks again.
