Bertrand to QPR (season-long loan)

Warnock Wants Bertrand

QPR boss looking to take Blues defender on loan

Skysports.com understands Queens Park Rangers are looking to take Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand on a season-long loan.

As they prepare for their return to the Premier League, manager Neil Warnock has been busy scouring the market for potential new recruits.

Money has been in short supply so he has been forced to explore all avenues, including the loan market.

Left-back has been identified as one area which needs addressing as a matter of urgency, so candidates for that role have been assessed.

Bertrand would fit the bill, as he is still considered to be a squad player at Chelsea.

It is unlikely that he will be able to oust Ashley Cole from the Blues' starting XI any time soon, so he may be open to another loan move.

He spent the first half of last season with Nottingham Forest, allowing him to see regular first-team football.

Prior to that, the 22-year-old has taken in spells with Bournemouth, Oldham, Norwich and Reading.

Bertrand penned a new five-year contract with Chelsea in July, proving that he is held in high regard around Stamford Bridge, but QPR are hoping that their capital rivals will be willing to let the youngster leave on another short-term deal.

Andre Villas-Boas may be willing to consider an agreement with Rangers as they could offer his promising defender a full season of top flight football, something he is yet to experience.

I'm undecided about this. I'd like to see him stay as a squad member as cover for Ashley Cole. On the other hand, a season-long loan in the Premiership would be a step up from Forest, and he should get plenty of playing time, even if it is for QPha.

Didn't we alternate short loans for Ryan and PVA last year? While I think something like that was a good idea at the time, I doubt any Premier League club would want to do that. Therefore, I think if QPR really want him, it'd be a good move for both parties, and PVA could backup Ash.

As an added bonus, he would still be close to home if he went there.

Good deal, still in London and will play for a team that will need to defend for most of the game. We have PVA as back up for Ash - good times :)

He's already been on loan for ages, it's time he was given a chance with us, filling in for Ashley in the cup games and against the weaker PL opposition.

I keep going back and forth about which of the two i'd rather keep in the long term if forced to choose, I think i'd opt to keep PVA.

I'd like to see Ryan on loan for a full year at this level, he'd be well worked at QPR that's for sure.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

He's earned his wings, keep him here and play him, let Ash rest his dodgy ankle occassionally

I prefer Bertrand to PvA, but really, we haven't seen enough of him in the Premier League to make an informed decision. PvA's defense worries me.

It's a difficult one in that really only one of Ryan and Pat can make it at Chels, but it seems the club haven't decided yet which one is to be Ash's replacement. To be honest, I don't know either, both class players with huge potential.

Counts as homegrown. Key reason for keeping him here.

But of course PvA needs some time here as well. So he'll have to go out for 6 months. I don't fancy sending one out for the whole year. Both deserve to actually have an opportunity to prove themselves here. A full season loan tends to suggest Bertrand is on the outer, which I far from agree with.

If Ryan has to go on loan why should it be with Neil 'break his legs' Warnock??.

Why can't the millionares at Loftus Road dig into their pockets??.

Still remember them taking Fillery back in the early '80's the bar stewards!.

Loan yes if AVB agrees, but not to a Warnock side.

I would be happy for him to go on loan in the prem. Anything less would be a waste. Also we should put a recall clause in the contract so if the worst comes to the worst then we can get him back and playing for us.

He has just signed a 5 year deal so one season more out on loan will do us and him some good i think.

Better QPR than Leeds:

Grayson eyes Bertrand after Leeds' opening day horror show

Leeds are rivalling QPR for Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand. Manager Simon Grayson was stung by his side's poor performance in their opening 3-1 defeat at Southampton.

And that has prompted him to look to add some more pace at the back.

England U21 left-back Bertrand spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Not too sure what purpose this move would serve for the player or the club. With Yuri gone he should be the backup given his experience that he has gathered in the last few years. If anything it should be Van Aanholt who should be out on loan and playing for a team regularly.

No point him going to leeds! He has already do it in the championship. We need to see if he can keep up with the prem week in week out.

I can see why people are saying with Yury going we should keep him but he wont get better by sitting on the bench. If QPR would play him week in week out then i say give him a season there. We have PVA to cover at LB and Luiz can play there and Paulo can play there also.

I'd definately opt to loan PVA before Bertrand.

Then again, I think PVA is suited to playing left wing, and would be happy if he got a few games there too.

But if we're keeping one to be Ash's understudy, Ryan is the choice I think.

Saw Betrand play for the England U21's over the Summer and he looked like he could be great IMO. A loan would probably be best for him personally but who do we have to backup Ashley other than PVA, who himself has hardly played?

I think its a toss up between the two but depends on who AVB thinks is more ready to deputize Ash this season. I personally think Bertrand is a little ahead of PVA in terms of development so would prefer him to stay and let PVA get a full season in the prem under his belt. In long term, I think PVA is a better attacker while Ryan is a better defender of the two. So PVA would be a more natural successor of Ash if he can develop his defensive game.
