Sensible thoughts on who is going?

To all our fellow Shed Enders........

Who do we realistically think has had their time at the club, who should we be saying thaks and goodbye to in the summer.

I'll put my head over the parapet and start.

Malouda

Bosingwa

Drogba (unless he agrees to a 1 year contract)

Kalou (unless he agrees a wage cut)

Paulo

Essien (unfortunately)

In wages alone that should make us a large saving, which we should then be able to use to bring in some younger players who are semi-established but won't command the super high wages.

More importantly who should we replace out of those that we let go?

I agree with the above, accept that I don't think we should offer Drogs an extension - I think that gives us too easy a route back to the old style of Chelsea football (or what should be the old style!). Kalou, I don't know what he earns so could we get as able a replacement for the same money - or do we not need to replace him!

What's the focus, do we need to trim the wage bill - promote from the youth team, or do we want to rejuvinate the squad whilst still challenging on all fronts - we'd arguably have to pay lots and lots in wages to get the right players for that?

Havent sensibly thaught about it but i want to say : for the wages we pay these players listed we can get FAR BETTER quality from the new players we bring. So iam pretty confident next season if we not have more or same points, atleast we will play alot better in terms of quality build up play.

Malouda

Drogba (unless he agrees to a 1 year contract)

Kalou (unless he agrees a wage cut)

Paulo

Essien (unfortunately)

I'm good with this list.

If he suddenly rediscovered his form, I'd like to keep Ess. And I was hopeful that may happen when he first came back. But the last several games have been an unfortunate look into reality. His knees just aren't there anymore.

I'd also be open to keeping Kalou. I legitimately like him and think he can play a solid role. But I know he's not happy being a sub, and I don't think he's quite good enough to be an every game starter at either wing spot.

For replacements, we need another RB. Brana is fine, but can't play every game. We need a striker. Assuming Drogba goes, and Lukaku likely goes on loan, that leaves just Torres. And again, 1 guy isn't enough for any spot. We need a little depth there. A true wing would be awfully beneficial, as would another creative mid to complement Mata.

Beyond that, I think we're in pretty good shape.

From the back to the front (out and in):

- Hilario - Just signed a new contract, so can forget that one.

- Turnbull - Not good enough for the PL really, unless he's on a very low wage and doesn't mind never playing

+ Courtois - Bring him back from loan to challenge Cech

- Cole - Very high wage and is stifling the progress of Bertrand and PVA (Ryan especially though)

- Ferreria - Never use him, so a waste of wages

- Bosingwa - Has a monobrow

+ RB - Coleman from Everton? Richards from City (if available)? etc..?

+ CB - Maybe promote someone from the reserves/youth? Chalobah? Bruma? That Danish guy who's name escapes me?

- Merieles - Unless he's willing to be a squad player who doesn't get many games

- Essien - Unfortunately it seems like he's never going to get back to anywhere near his best level

- Benayoun - What was the point of him exactly?

+ CM - Promote Josh and Piazon to squad players

+ CM - If we can get him, someone like Modric. Or maybe that Italian who again the name has escaped me..plays for Fiorentina I think...?

- Malouda - 1 good season does not an unsellable player make

- Kalou - Has been here for years and hasn't improved at all since he arrived.

+ LW - Call back De Bruyne

+ RW - Hazard if we can get him

+ LW/RW - Robben if we can get him for a reasonable price

- Drogba - Seems uninterested most of the time nowadays and on a very high wage

- Torres - Unless he hits a ridiculous run of form in the coming weeks and scores a sh*t load. We can't have a striker on £150k per week who can't score

+ ST - No idea, but someone who could score would be nice. RVP if Arsenal don't finish in the top 4? Who knows.

+ ST - Promote Feurez as backup striker for the other 2

Giving us:

Cech, Courtois, Walker

Bertrand, PVA

Terry, Cahill

Luiz, [CB]

Ivanovic, [RB]

Romeu, Mikel

Ramires, Josh, Piazon

[CM], Lampard

Mata, De Bruyne

Hazard, Robben

Sturridge, [sT], Feurez

Approximate Financial Income/Outgoings

Hilario - Signed a new contract

Cole +£4,000,000

Ferreria +£500,000

Bosingwa +£2,500,000

Merieles +£5,000,000

Benayoun +£0

Malouda +£2,000,000

Kalou +£2,500,000

Drogba +£0

Torres +£10,000,000

Income: £32,000,000

Courtois -£0 (Already owned)

RB -£10,000,000 - £15,000,000 (roughly)

CB -£0 (Promote from within)

Josh & Piazon -£0 (Already owned)

CM -£30,000,000 (roughly)

De Bruyne -£0 (Already owned)

Hazard -£30,000,000 (roughly)

Feurez -£0 (already owned)

Outgoings: £145,000,000

Total Cost: £113,000,000

So that's only about two Fernando Torres' worth of money. Peanuts to Roman.

I really think we need to sell Meireles.. Don't rate him at all.

Meireles isn't good enough to be a regular starting XI player for us, but like Kalou, I can think he can serve a useful purpose. He could play basically anywhere in the midfield, in a pinch. To fill in when other guys are injured, or give 'better' players a break against lesser teams, etc., I think players like him are good to keep around.

I like your list, Sheddie.

I see some people want to ax players for punitive reasons, like Meireles. I don't think that's likely or desirable. Depth is important.

Your list is sound for two reasons. It identifies the contract victims -- Drogba and Kalou. And it identifies the real non-contributors. Essien and Bossy are your only "punitive" selections. Essien's wages might make it desirable to move him on, if a buyer can be found.

Right back has been a chronic position of need. One hopes the club makes a move to address it.

Tough to say. It all depends on:

1. Who our new manager will be and what kind of players he wants.

2. What players we bring to the club - depends on who wants to come here and if we can afford them (not sure how much the FFP rules will affect us).

3. Who wants to stay or go.

Love to see robben back, but he's very injury prone. Oh to see a return to something like the Robben/Duff partnership.

The players to be released I really have no idea, as someone else said, it really depends on who the new manager will be.

Not sure that we will spend big in the summer, but need to ensure enough quality is brought in to replace those that will leave,

Revolution or evolution ?, we will have to wait and see.

Revolution might be the best way forward, but is so risky.

Overall i agree with what u said but i think u underrate the money we can get from some of the players :

Bosingwa - more likely to be 5mil. +

Malouda - ~5 Mil.

Kalou - atleast 8 mil.

Torres - ~20 mil. (atleast 15)

Nice blue print but we are Chelsea and Malouda and Kalou will more than likely be on the bench come august. Also Lukaku?

Wouldn't get rid of Torres, isn't Kalou out of contract at the end of the season? Must admit that's a nice football manager/fifa type transfer window.

Mvila is someone i would really like to seeus try and bring in,espicially if we do sell essien. Absolute beast. We have no chance of signing eriksen, he has come out and said as much in the past. Anyone know how Piazon has been going in the reserves? i saw he was on the bench for us in a game recently

OUT

Malouda, Anelka, Alex, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Essien, Drogba, Meireles, A.Cole, Kalou.

IN

Willian (Shakhtar), Hazard (Lille), Jovetic (Fiorentina), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Lucas Moura(Sao Paulo), + RB + LB.

GOALKEEPERS

Cech is still solid. Hilario just extended his contract so he is staying, too(not sure why). Turnbull is cheap and English, which are the only two reasons he's there. Courtois needs to stay on loan, not sure if it should still be Atletico, though.

DEFENCE

With both Portugeezers gone from the RB spot we'll need someone to provide Ivanovic with competition. Brana has made this position his and imo he looks more comfortable there than in the center. If Hutch isn't up to it, we may need to look to bring another RB, hopefully someone with pace to provide a real alternative to the Serb. With Cahill, JT and Luiz being the options for the two CB positions, we may bring back Kalas from Vitesse to be the fourth choice, apparently he's done well there (incidentally he can play on the right, too). Chalobah is too young, I believe, and will need to have a god loan spell somewhere first. Ashley is having his worst season so perhaps it's time to let him go. Young Bertrand deserves a chance, but a more experienced leftback has to be looked at.

MIDFIELD

This is an area that needs the most improvement. Too many passengers that play at sloth's pace and keep hanging around the place way past their expiration date.

Willian, I think, is safe bet to replace Malouda. Hazard would be a real prize, but I wonder if we are capable of landing him, especially if we finish 5th. There was a lot of talk about Lucas Moura from Sao Paulo, and he would be even more exciting signing than Hazard, he's considered second only to Neymar when it comes to young Brazilian talent. He is also strong as an ox and has phenomenal acceleration and dribbling.

Jovetic from Fiorentina is a very talented player, who may be a good replacement for Anelka. His teammate Montolivo is very underrated playmaker, who could do a job that Meireles was supposed to do.

I doubt we'll get Modric and I don't want him for a crazy fee, anyway. The combination of Mata, Montolivo and Lucas Moura is more than enough to make up for the lack of creativity in our central midfield.

Willian and Hazard would add speed and flair on the wings, and Sturridge and Jovetic would make us more formidable and pacy upfront.

Romeu and Mikel will compete for a holding spot and Ramires is a useful player in any system. Lampard needs to assume a Giggs/Scholes type of a role, where his playing time may be limited. Josh needs be loaned out somewhere where he gets to play.

ATTACK

Drogba, as good as he was for us over the years, needs to go. He can still put on a world class performance, and hopefully we'll see a few of those before the end of the season, but he's getting on a bit and the ratio of erratic indifferent displays to the "unplayable beast" ones is steadily changing in favor of the first. We just depend on him too much for my liking because when he's hot we're doing well, butr when he isn't which happens more and more the whole system breaks down.

Give Torres good support from the midfield and the wings and we'll see the old version of the Spaniard(at least, I hope). He has to know he's the man upfront, and with Didier's shadow hanging over it'll never happen. Sturridge is a keeper, Lukaku needs to go on loan(Everton?) and if Jovetic is also there  , so we're good.

I wouldnt expect to see any more than 3 in, 3 out. Squad building takes time and precision , bringing a whole load of players in could leave us in as much of a mess as we are now with an unbalanced squad. It is a given which players most of us would like in and to see leave, we though have to contemplate that failure to achieve CL football for next year, could see the players we don't want to see leave cherry picked, especially as the newer players that have come in are on substantially less wages than the 'stars' that they are replacing and that hold we have had previously would count for little. Todays game is massive not only for the 3pts but also the immediate future of the club.

personally sals i think eriksen is very gettable, he's said he's happy where he is, but thats the same for the majority of targets. I wouldnt read too much into the fact we rejected him after a trail 6 years ago. money talks in football.

the thing thats pissed me off is we never have any plan b in the transfer market, we missed out on neymar and didnt sign anyone, then this season we mised out on modric. theres so many players that good improve us.

if we dont sign eriksen, then we should go for lucas moura, or steven jovetic, dries martins, josep ilicic, marek hamsik, ezquelle lavezzi. there really are so many players the just gets so short sighted sometimes and obsessed with a modric or a neymar.

piazon has looked composed for someone his age he's not single handly winning football matches ala messi but he looks very classy and i think the he's the type of player that needs to be involved in the first team asap.
