I know many including myself have seen this guy play for five minutes and declared this player the biggest success story of the Chelsea academy since JT but this season has seen him take several steps back as a player. This season was set up for him he was amazing in preseason and with the euros coming up and England's midfield being nothing short of shocking there was the chance for him to hijack a place in the squad! However this was not be...carrot top thought it better to never play him as this would surely progress his development and the few games he did play he was usually hauled off way before the 90 minutes were up! He then went on loan to Swansea where surely he would make a go of it as it was deemed a match made in heaven. Again this was not meant to be, sigurdson came in and stole the limelight whilst joshy's contribution would most definitely have been appreciated at barcelona where they appreciate the art of making aimless passes to keep possession but at Swansea he was criticised for playing one-two's with the keeper and not being able to make a tackle!

This has now led us to accepting that a season in the championship is exactly what this boy needs to re-discover himself! This would be a pointless effort in fruitility as the reason mceachran was nothing more than a spectre at Swansea was the lack of quality around him...at Chelsea his asses showed himself something that Chelsea desperately needs in a midfielder who can keep possession! Too many times have seen merciless make shocking passes and give the ball away cheaply, something malouda has been guilty of for a long time! So that is 2 players that Josh is easily better than and this is why this season is make or break. Failure to deliver some glimpses of potential this season and I fear his career at this club has long peaked and I don't think he will be as lucky as JT who was nearly sold very cheaply only to become chelseas most successful captain ever

I think Josh would benefit from a loan spell abroad, and this is something that we should seriously consider in future with our more technically gifted players.

However, I'd hope that he has a very good pre-season (again) and he does stay at the club to challenge for a place. I'm not sure why, but I think this coming season we will see a few more academy products playing in the first team.

I have suggested the loan move abroad for a while, now. Spain is my preferred spot for him, even a Liga Segunda team, although a step down would guarantee him starts and an atmosphere where he can really develop his technical assets. Germany would also be a good and more physical option for him.

He will make it, but the main criticism I saw from Swansea fans was that he lacked incision on the ball, his passes although they kept possession didn't create opportunities, he wasn't the world beating playmaker they thought they'd signed. This is also a criticism I've held of him in the past and that's why I think Spain is the place for him to develop that aspect. He'll have a split second more time on the ball and be surrounded with players expected to pass it to feet and expecting to receive passes. The championship will toughen him up, but his strengths aren't strong enough yet to begin to worry about his weaknesses.

The Spanish league would be good for him as they understand that not every pass has to be a killer ball over the top or a defence splitting pass. I think the biggestroblem is he is expected to just make every pass have purpose but he bases his game on the true greats that will tell you rule one of football os to keep possession and keep the ball moving, this is his biggest strength and is so vastly underrated due to how direct teams are in the premier league

I think Josh isn't ever going to make it at Chelsea, not that I don't think he's good enough because I can't say that for sure; however, what I can say is he seems to be a victim of circumstance. Comes through the Chelsea academy, has a plethora of managers come through each demanding instance success - so they're never going to take a chance on a young player.

Then he goes on loan to play under Rodgers, someone we all felt would play him because of his time at Chelsea and being familiar with Josh. He goes to Swansea and they sign Siggurdson who is a better, more complete player, and stifles josh's chances. However, even when subs were made, there were other players chosen ahead of Josh.

I think if he was as good as al of us hope he is, or can become, he'd have been picked already. A loan spell to somewhere like Southampton might do him good. And if he doesn't play there and then, he'll never play at Chelsea

Unless the FFP becomes much more strict than it currently is, I highly doubt he will make it here. Mainly due to lack of chances. He will most likely be moved on along with others who then go on to become great players and we are back to square one.

Also I don't see what he would learn abroad that he couldn't learn at a club in the championship, believe it or not not all the teams in the championship are neanderthals that lump the ball forward at any given opportunity. He knows what type of player he is, anyone who would be interested in loaning him will know what type of player he is, he's not going to turn into Rory Delap just by us loaning him to a championship team.

Interesting read into why our introduction of youth players into the first team is so poor

Josh will be a massive success for us, we all need to be patient with how the club handles him!

A loan for the first half of the season would do both parties good, a good Championship club would be my preferred option, one that plays the ball on the floor, maybe Charlton Athletic a team with no great expectations.

Then in January we can see how his & our seasons are going and then make a decision from their for the rest of the season.

By the time he is 21 he is going to be a very regular starter for us!

Oh and I've seen more than 5 minutes of him!

All I can say is that we will have to wait and see, I mean football is about winning so most clubs will go out and buy the best performers, that's how they will do it.

I hope he will be a massive success and I think he has the potential to do that but if he get's game time that's the thing. I mean look and United, losing two of their best prospects recently in Morrison and Pogba, all because they couldn't get game time.

He's certianly the most naturally gifted player to come through our youth team in a long time, if we doin't give him a fair chance and we just keep buying players to make the competition impossible for him, then i'm probably going to go right off Chelsea for a while, because it's so disappointing when you see these kids coming through and you think..yeah, they're going to make it, and then they're not given a chance and they end up becoming good players elsewhere.

I hope we take a chance with him this season. If the rumoured bid for Mereiless from Napoli is real, let him go. let Essien go ( as painful as it is), even if we sign another central midfielder, there is another spot for Josh to play cup matches, and few camos in the league. A year onloan is fine, but which club in the league will give him regular matches, and play similar type of football as us?

Posted

The biggest thing he needs right now simply is game time. A loan at a Championship club would probably be the best step, as I can't think of a Prem club that would be able to play him week in week out.

I believe that Josh should play in every LEAGUE CUP AND FA CUP match...This would def blood him in within 2 seasons to be a Blue first teamer(regular)

I pray Josh makes it at Chelsea and would even rather see him make it at one of our rivals than not at all because he wasn't given the chance to.

Had a horrible thought earlier though. Heard that Rodgers was considering alternative options for the dippers having missed out on Sigurdsson who opted for Sp*rs.Now I know that he didn't give Josh much time whilst on loan at Swansea but he could see him as the ideal player in that Liverpool midfield to bring on gradually. He will certainly be able to guarantee him more game time than we can, especially if we are thinking of sending him out on loan again. And it would probably suit Josh too, playing up there near his bird (the one from Corrie).

Got to stop my pessimistic mind thinking like this!!

Poor Josh, like Kakuta before him has simply been victim to the expectations game. Everyone expected him to at least match Wilshere very quickly.

He hasn't so now people are questioning whether he will make it at all.

I have no doubt he will be a part of our plans this season. He is also going to be a part of our plans long term, whether that is as a world beater or just a squad member remains to be seen, Either way for Christs sake people have a little f**king patience. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I don't think Wiltshear would have got any more game time at chelsea then Josh has. Unfortunatly to give youth a chance you need a manager that had huge cahonas or at least feels a little comfortbale in his role.

unfortunately i disagree Josh is the creator of his own expectations with that game against Newcastle which set set tongues wagging, so to blame the fans is mental! Expectations may be great on this lad and so they should be at the level we are playing! Josh has to start meeting those expectations at some point

It was one game! If you watched Kezman second leg of the epic tie against Barca you would say he was a world beater as well.

He is 19 years old and if we are saying either, become Iniesta or f**k off to him at this stage then we may as well not bother with young players because we're likely to have absolutely none ever work out for us.

I'm not doubting his ability, I just doubt our coaches in regards to our youngsters. Amount of times I've heard he's not ready or he's not good enough yet and then the player has f**ked off and shown that he was indeed ready/good enough is ridiculous.

If by part of our plans you mean 10 mins of game time all season, then yeah he will. I don't see him being anywhere near the team, especially when the likes of Kakuta and KDB have shown that they are quality players and Josh has done nothing of the sort.

lol no-one said anything about him being iniesta...for a start he is more in the Xavi mode! but he has to show glimpses of being able to match his potential as any player of world class potential has! I do agree thoguh that if we cannot demonstrate our ability to integrate him into the squad we should just throw in the towel with developing players as we develop them to play a completely different style to the first team, hopefully that will change with this seasons signings being of a more creative nature

josh was pretty good in the pre season but was ignored for experience for the pl campaign. He really needs someone like a whinger to encourage and develope his talent. This season will be very interesting to see if RDM can show he can emulate whinger. Especially with the other young players as well.
