Matthew Harding - 16 years ago today

Featured Replies

Sixteen years ago today we lost a man who we owe so much to. He deserved to see where his love, passion & dedication for Chelsea lead us. He must have had a right giggle whilst looking down on us on Saturday- beating Spuds on their turf was a great way to celebrate his life.

This doesn't belong in the pre-Roman era forum because without him we may not have had the chance to witness what we have done since.

I remember reading somewhere - it might well have been on this very site - that Alan Hudson regarded meeting Matthew Harding as one of the highlights of his life, that the photo of the pair of them together is among his most cherished. And quite rightly so, it will never be forgotten how much the man did for this club.

RIP Matthew, carefree wherever you may be.

Hope the great man is having fun from up above watching the way we are playing now. You played a big mart in our history, so enjoy the plaudits and rewards that we are currently reaping.

Can't think of a more fitting tribute to him than beating Spurs at home on Saturday.

RIP and never forgotten. Matthew Harding's Blue and White army!

Where does all the time go?! I still remember the day clearly.

He'll most certainly have been looking down on all this success whilst knocking back a skinful of guiness.

RIP Matthew Harding.

I remember waking up the day after the game in Bolton and hearing it on the breakfast radio news just like it was yesterday, shellshocked.

That was the start of the 96/97 season and I feel that everything we achieved that season and since has been in memory of him. RIP Matt - gone but not forgotten, KTBFFH.

He played the ying to Ken Bates' incorrigible yang. A true Chelsea legend.

Hopefully, he can see what Chelsea has developed into from heaven.
