So being a 90's kid, I obviously missed out the days of Bonetti in goal (though I have thankfully been filled in) who along with Cech is regardless as the best 2 keepers in our history. But after those 2 is quite possibly the most underrated player in Chelsea history, Carlo Cudicini who despite being displaced still stuck around on the bench for about 4-5 years despite probably being able to walk into nearly any 1st XI in the world. Were it not for 1 injury who knows how things might have turned out? But yeah, before JT, Lamps, Didier, Cudicini was the first Chelsea player to really inspire me so here's a small thank you to one of the best players of the pre-Abramovich years.

 

 

 

I think ive got my facts correct .  I remember taking my kids to a league cup match v Huddersfield which we lost at the Bridge 1 0..I think this is when cudiccini played his first match for us....I saw then he was a good goalie....I dont believe he was underated at chelsea. We sold him for his own good to get first team footy..We always knew of his skills..(and) yes of course was never in the catagory of The Cat and Petr Cech..I feel sad he isnt first choice at spudland..I felt a little sad for him when one year he played in goal for spuds at chelsea and certainly got a bit of the y word from where i was in the ground by quite a lot of Blues..I wish him well...Hes made a lot of dough even though he may not be happy with the way his career has moved on..Football is a fickle scenario to be associated with when it comes to past players...

Chelsea fans loved Carlo and rightly so. He was my favourite keeper some of he's saves I will never forget. He must have felt hard done by when cech game in considering Carlo just won the golden gloves. I think he is the best bargain by we ever got, along with Flo.

Cudicini was a superb goalkeeper. I think apart from the Chelsea fans, he was considered underrated by many until he became recognised by everyone else in the 2002-2003 after he won the Golden Glove award. 

 

He deserved to play more for Italy, but Buffon was one of the best goalkeepers in the world at that time as well. 

 

I won't forget Carlo in a hurry. One of the best goalkeepers that Chelsea has ever produced. 

Carlo was a very good keeper, and is still much loved by Chelsea fans even after joining the scum from N17.

 

Got to say, I think Eddie Niedzwiecki was a better keeper, I was gutted when his career was ended by injury.

Yeah my dad loved Eddie Ned. I saw some videos he looked top notch. From stuff I watch I still reckon the cat is the best we ever had.

I'm the same, started getting really into football & chelsea around the end of de goey's days and then when carlo came in.

It's sad he wasn't able to play more first team football during his career because he was a fantastic keeper, but I won't ever forget the contributions he's made to our success.

Hes still liked at Chelsea and rightly so he was and still is a brilliant keeper.  With him as no. 2 there'd be no worry (or very little) worry if Petr got injured.  At the Tottenham game last season 0-0 when he was warming up he clapped the Chelsea fans more than Spurs and we clapped him more than his own teams fans.

Mmmmmm... come back, agent Carlo, it's time to come back in from the cold.

He was great for us, it was very unfortunate for him when we signed another keeper who just happened to be one of the world's best.

I loved it when the crowd sung the "Carlo for England" chant, as a foreigner it must have felt pretty good to hear that.

Cracking keeper in my opinion.
