The problem is the team is way too imbalanced. Ivanovic needs protection, Terry needs protection, Cesc needs protection. If we carry on 'protecting' wouldn't that limit what other players are meant to be doing?

I think some are confusing the discussion about the cause of our problems with the team (In this case, The bane) With the discussion of weather he should be dropped, Which I think is funny because he's.........injured.....

Its silly saying Iva is struggling because he's coming up against 'elite' wingers. The primary job of a defender is to defend 1st. If he can't then he will be benched. When Jose was at madrid he preferred playing arbeloa at left back because he felt marcelo can't defend.

Yes. Sadio Mane and Andre Ayew are elite wingers - easily good enough to play for the best teams in Europe. Ayew was vastly underrated when joining Swansea. Zaha, Tadic, Montero, Bolasie are a tier lower, but have been standour players in our league this season and could easily join a big European team in the near future.

 

So for whats its worth Ivanovic was coming up against the most in form wingers in the EPL. On current form Mane and Ayew are only behind Mahrez and Sanchez as far as wingers go.

It's a good point, and why all midfielders are expected to cover full backs now, total team defence as advocated by the much fawned over Barcelona team. Ivanovich has been hung out and isolated too much, but that's not excusiing his poor decision making and his bizarre fear of contacting an attacker, he just backs off all the time now, and I have no idea why.

 

covering duty is valid only under some certain situations.. 1-on-1 battle in the fullback area is not one of those situations.. It's a simple thing to think, azpi as rightback would make that right side to less likely get exposed which most likely improve our deffence.. Since the start of the season, not only ivan didn't make any positive contritbution, he gave the team negative effect, half of those goals we conceded were because of him.. 

 

Despite all that, he's still getting picked by jose and the blame should lie on him whether ya like it or not..
