Branislav Ivanovic - Your Views?

Featured Replies

Terry has lifted 4 EPL titles as captain, a CL, a EL and numerous domestic titles as well as being named the best defender in Europe 3 times which was a great achievement. Voted in the FIFApro World 11 five years on the trot.

He's played just shy of 500 times for Chelsea and been here since a youngster. He is also our most successful captain of all time.

is a homegrown British player who broke through.

If he isn't classed as a Chelsea legend then no one else should be.

Ridiculous to say otherwise IMO.

Of course not, Mikel has won them too, is he a legend? A player is not the team and the team won the trophies.

And yes, I am setting it high, otherwise everyone is a legend in every top club ;) Ivanovic is not even close. People need to look up words before they use them maybe?

So yeah, like it or not, but Lamps is the only one.

My point is that they were key to us winning those trophies. Anyway, maybe you're right on Ivan, possibly a cult hero more than a legend, but I have to disagree that Lamps is the only legend, Drogs and Terry are too for me.

Dosmissing his achievements?

Baffling

Okay, I admit it was a mistake to dismiss Terry's achievements. I was not aware of his individual achievements when I wrote my initial post and should have done more research. Terry is one of the greatest players to have played for Chelsea and England and deservedly considered a legend by many. I also apologise to everyone who might have thought that my posts were offensive.

The only legendary player of this generation is Lampard because he is the midfielder who averaged 20 goals per season for a decade. That sounds special. He is also the only Chelsea player to have made it into the top three in the world in 2006 I believe.

Terry, Cech, Drogba, Hazard etc are all very good players but let's not pretend they've achieved anything super exceptional for Chelsea.

What in the name of f**k have I just read.

Terry, cech and drogba have won more than any other Chelsea players in history other than a couple if their team mates, to say they haven achieved anything us unbelievably stupid.

Good point about Mikel also winning those trophies. Legendary status goes beyond the winning IMO. Lamps and Terry are obvious choices and so is Drogba for me. His goals have literally won us trophies and they way he played puts him over the top. He was instrumental on the field but he was also so important to the identity of the club. Not to discount any other players contributions to the club but we dont have a CL trophy or a few FA cups without him.

My favorite stats, trivia if you like, are his goal scoring records against Arsenal and in cup finals. Hes a f*cking legend

Yes, you are right. I thought about it, did look a few things up and shouldn't have excluded Terry. I forgot many of his individual accolades, simply because they don't stick as well as Lamps' hundreds of goals! My mistake.

Averaging 20 goals is a season is special for a midfielder, but equally it is absolutely impossible for a goalkeeper or defender so to judge cech and terry on the same perameters is unfair.

How about Terry and Cech keeping god knows how many clean sheets between them, and setting records for the best defence in the Premier League? Surely that is exceptional? And if not Id love to know which Keepers/defenders you think are exceptional, and what they have achieved that makes them exceptional where JT and Cech failed?

Terry, Cech, Drogba and Lampard were/are all legends.

Cech, Drogba and Lampard were applauded playing against us because of the respect they garnished. Terry should also be afforded the same respect should it ever happen.

The only other one within the last 25 years to make it to legendary status is Zola.

Di Matteo will obviously always be special but is just outside the margin for me.

If Essien is a legend (my favourite player while he was here), then Iva has every right to be called a legend.

Essien was arguably the best player in his position in the world in his prime. Not comparable.

I always loved Gronkjaer for that goal he got against Liverpool to get us Champions League (the season before Roman)

Chelsea needed just a draw from that match, so in a way Jesper's goal was just the cherry on the cake. He did cross that ball for Desailly to head in, so he got the assist for the all important equaliser.

Next season we needed a draw at Old Trafford to secure second place and avoid Champions League qualifying matches and this was the goal that did it:

Sorry about the poor video and audio quality. It was the only video of that goal that I could find.

I liked him because he was funny. Would hammer down the wing, beating players for fun, turning them inside out, then just randomly boot it at some bloke in the opposite stand, or behind the goal. Might as well have picked it up and threw it away.

Essien was arguably the best player in his position in the world in his prime. Not comparable.

Your're right. But that prime didn't last very long, did it?

If anything, Iva has given a longer period of good-very good service with trophies and a many crucial goals, so they are at least comparable imho.

Think Essien was a legend in the treatment room unfortunately.

Anyway, say what you want about ivan but at least he made runs today and got in behind.
