Guest Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 He was easily our best player in the games against Wycombe and Notts Forest, and there is constant talk of us getting rid of him, is it only me who thinks that this would be a grave mistake? He could, in a few years time be the new Makelele, whilst playing alongside the great ma, learning his trade! The best thing now, seeing as he is not going to get many prem games, is to probably send him out on loan to somebody like Fulham, Newcastle or someone so he can get some prem experience! What do you make of him?
Gem Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 He had 2 very decent games. But he wasn't as good as Essien. No one at the moment is. I'd like for us to keep him, but unless hes happy playing back up to Maka and Ess then loaning him out is the best option. Then again, at his age, maybe he doesn't want to be loaned and wants to go somewhere full time. Also, whilst I'm here, recall Scottie Sinclair. 3 strikers of Drogs, Sheva & Sinclair... would be quite nice!
g3.7 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 diarra has looked very good, but crucially we haven't really seen him in a situation where he has to man mark a player, when he's played, we've only really seen him with the ball.
Mod Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Lassana is a girl's name- let's sell him. Come on, thats no reason Pauline!

The Brit Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I think he should be told the holding role will be practically his from next season...maka is starting to show his age and I think essien is wasted there, he needs to be allowed to charge up the pitch and I don't think it's his strongest position...diarra looks quality and definitely the next maka...i believe the latter still has a part to play at the club but should be gradually phased out over the next two years
Butch Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I think Diarra's been great - the best of the our bunch of "youngsters", and that includes the likes of Mikel and Kalou. I would certainly like to see him play more games for us. Cheers, Butch

He could, in a few years time be the new Makelele, whilst playing alongside the great man, learning his trade! He was outstanding again last night! He has played his way into the side. It just goes to show that if you play well enough and show the right attitude you will get into Jose's side. Just as those who don't perform, play their way out of it!
c3blu Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Diarra had a good game at full back the other night, and is ideal to take over from maka over the next few years (maka's got a bit of life left in him yet). Personally when maka is rested i'd play him in the holding role now instead of Essien. Leaving Essien and Lampard together in midfield instead of Ballack. I agree we would be mad to let him go.

mad_mac Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 he simply MUST stay. I think he is a great young prospect, and his performances so far have done nothing to change my mind on that. Also, if we let him go, only to sign a "higher profile" player, then I would be gutted!
The Brit Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 as i mentioned in the cup forum, a lot was said about arsenal's youngsters, but nothing about this guy who was superb in the final and showed great composure to defend while on a yellow card for so long...i hope chelsea will now tie him onto a long-term deal and keep him in the first team...he's class
BackInBlue Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 What I most like about him is his touch under pressure, he is always calm even when harried by two players and gets out of trouble ala.......erm..............Maka. :) I think his positioning is still a bit suspect to play as a DM but with more first team games that'll only get better. A great prospect indeed.

Diarra can playing holding role while Maka is rested and when Maka is on he still could play as a right full back. This will deliver him enough practice time not to think about leaving, which would undoubtably be a loss for us. And also IMO he is a clever boy. He must understand he gets opportunity for breakthrough into the first team, he`s already in the first team comparing with his previous season, when I was watching him for a few times on a bench and didn`t knew who is this bloke....
Nibs Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 After Drogba, Diarra was my MOTM yesterday. He was brilliant. Can't quite believe how The S*n gave him a 5 in the paper today - they were obviously watching a different game to me. He offers us so much more at right back than Geremi and his composure on the ball for one so young is astounding. I'd keep playing him right back for now but he definitely looks like the long term replacement for Maka and I think he has more to his game too.
loz Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 It would be interesting to know what Diarra felt about being played at right back regularly. Surely a large part of him will be thinking that it is great to be playing regularly irrespective of where it is on the pitch but there may be a litle bit of him that will evenetually begin to wonder if it is the best thing for his long term career to be playing out of position on a consistent basis (unless of course he becoes one of those players whose natural position changes and he ends up being a right back rather than a defensive midfielder)
bonetti Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 There was in profile in a recent Match programme - he basically said he would play anywhere to keep his place - good attitude
midlandblue Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 And the correct attitude. Players, all players, should be willing to play out of position every now and again. The younger players more than the established first team players. I have to admit that on first impressions I was not overly impresed with the mini maka, but the young lad has made a believer out of me. All credit to him and the coaching staff and to J.M. for giving the lad a chance.

Another accomplished performance. The Sun's ratings are always way off the mark. I think the only things they do get right in that paper are the dates, and page numbers. (Page 3 is normally spot on too).
