Gaffa Tape Arm bands

Featured Replies

Just noticed we had gaffa-tape armbands on at Stoke for the Mandela thing....not acceptable in my view,  that's the sort of slipshod thing the scousers do. On previous occasions we've shown proper respect for whoever it was being remembered with a properly put together black armband. Mind you, Liverpool and West Ham didn't wear black armbands at all at the weekend.....

It should be up to the players if they want to wear black arm bands or not. A lot of people out there have mixed feelings when it comes to Mandela and it's because of those mixed feelings that i don't think they should have had a minutes applause this weekend.

But back to your main point. I don't really think it matters if they wear tape instead of an arm band, arm bands can be a pain in the ass

It's a bit like managers in tracksuits versus managers in suits - I know a lot of people don't give a t*ss but these small things say something about what the club thinks is important and the stature of the club itself.  If Chelsea turned out on Remembrance Day with a gaffa-tape armband I'd be pretty disappointed, in my opinion it woulds show a lack of respect.  My guess is that on this occasion the decision to wear armbands was optional and a last minute thing.  My bro-in-law is a Liverpool fan and I always keep him going about the scousers and their sticky tape armbands - pure class!!!

More to the point, what was your sister thinking ?

I wonder about this myself. With the Scousers propensity to remember everything on a yearly basis, including the demise of their tea lady's 20-year old cat, you'd think they would have invested in proper black armbands by now.

I agree it is a bizarre thread, but you would think most clubs would have black armbands as a standard piece of equipment considering how often they are worn.

I wouldn't be surprised if it being an away game is the reason for the sticky-tape; the kit-man probably just didn't think to take black arm-bands with him so they had to improvise.

The thing is, players are a fussy and as stupid as it sounds they might not like wearing an elasticated band around their arm.

A bit of black tape does the job and they don't keep pulling it up all game long.

The black arm band is just a symbol of respect.

You are being no more or no less respectful based on the material of your armband.

Bizarre thread.

I had a quiet day and therefore loads of time to consider the pros and cons of each type of black armband. What's your excuse to post twice in such a bizarre thread :-)

Because I have mastered the dark art of procrastination.

I take it shes white!

You make my point for me beautifully. Outsiders have no idea that many blacks in South Africa are indifferent to Mandela. Read about it.

blacks?

:face_palm:

You don't face palm Zola saying whites but you do for me saying blacks? What's your problem, are you racist

"I take it she's white" and calling black people "blacks" isn't the same thing IMO.

Just seemed a bit insensitive to me...
