Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He's just 18 years old tho. And Atletico can make him a wonder.

I agree, they have a history of producing good strikers, just wait a few years and we will be linked with him. Sometime I wish we just buy their scout and coach.

LOL imagine what if we get Koke, Costa, Tiago and Felipe Luis from Atletico and recall Courtois we've got half of the champions league finalist team. xD

Most likely one of them will be in a blue shirt next year (2 max).

I know which one I want it to be.....starts with a C and it's not Courtois.

Buy ALL the Atletico players! According to The Times:

Chelsea were closing in on a £50 million-plus triple raid on Atlético Madrid last night after indicating a willingness to pay close to the £19.4 million buyout clause in Filipe Luís’s contract.

A £32 million deal to sign Diego Costa from the Spanish champions has been in place for some time, while Chelsea are also in negotiations with Tiago, their former midfield player, about returning to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when his contract at the Vicente Calderón expires next month.

Chelsea’s move for Luís — whose situation they have been following for several months along with those of Alberto Moreno, of Seville, and Luke Shaw, of Southampton — comes after Ashley Cole’s announcement last week that he will leave the club after eight years, which persuaded José Mourinho of the need to sign a high-quality, experienced left back.

César Azpilicueta filled in admirably for Cole for much of last season, but remains more comfortable on the right, while Mourinho is not convinced by the merits of Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt.

Chelsea are prepared to double Luis’s wages to £80,000 a week and are confident of agreeing terms with Atlético after stepping up negotiations yesterday. The Brazil defender said after Saturday’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid that he is happy to stay at a club where he is contracted for a further three years, but a concrete offer from Chelsea could alter his thinking.

The west London club are hopeful that all three deals can be concluded before the World Cup begins on June 12. They remain on good terms with Atlético despite the row over Thibaut Courtois’s participation in the Champions League semi-finals, their annoyance at being forced to forgo a £5 million loan fee by Uefa offset by an acceptance that it would strengthen their hand in transfer negotiations this summer.

Atlético remain grateful at being permitted to have Courtois on loan for three years, during which time they have won the Europa League, Euro-pean Super Cup and the Copa del Rey before this season’s remarkable triumph in La Liga. The Belgium goalkeeper could become the fourth player to swap Atlético for Chelsea this summer, Mourinho having made clear that he wants him back as his first-choice goalkeeper.

Chelsea’s interest in Tiago is more of a surprise, because the former Portugal midfielder was sold to Lyons after a single season at the club nine years ago, although Mourinho admitted that letting him go was a big mistake. The 33-year-old is admired as much for his character as his quality and is seen as a player who could strengthen Chelsea’s options in midfield for one season for a minimal outlay.

Given his age and attachment to Mourinho, it is likely that Tiago would accept a one-year contract. His return could have implications for Frank Lampard, who has postponed a decision on signing a new one-year contract until after the World Cup, and John Obi Mikel, who, with three years left on his contract, is viewed as a saleable asset.

Chelsea’s planned transfer dealings to date will be largely funded by the £48 million sale of David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain. Mourinho is looking to assess the performances of Kurt Zouma, a £13 million signing from Saint-Étienne in January, during pre-season before deciding whether to sign another centre back as a direct replacement for Luiz.

Chelsea may also attempt to sign an additional striker, with Mario Mandzukic, of Bayern Munich, a longstanding target.

The Guardian are also running with the story that we could be in for all three players.

Chelsea have resumed talks with Atlético Madrid over the recruitment of the highly rated Brazilian left-back Filipe Luís, one of three potential signings by the Premier League club from the Spanish league winners.

Luís was a key member of the Atlético defence, backed up by the Chelsea loanee Thibaut Courtois in goal, that shipped only 26 goals in 38 games to claim a first league title since 1996. The 28-year-old full-back moved to Vicente Calderón from Deportivo la Coruña four years ago and, while he suggested after Saturday’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid that he intended to honour the final three years of his contract, the London club are confident they can lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are seeking a replacement for the departing Ashley Cole, whose eight-year stay will end when his contract expires at the end of next month, and had also considered the credentials of Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno and Southampton’s Luke Shaw. Yet, while interest in the teenage England international is long established and maintained, Shaw is still expected to move to Manchester United and Luís would be a safer option, given his experience and his clear pedigree, as demonstrated in both legs of Atletico’s semi-final success over Chelsea in the Champions League this season.

More surprising is their interest in re-signing the much-travelled Portuguese midfielder Tiago, whose contract at Atlético will also expire next month. The 33-year-old spent a year working with José Mourinho at Stamford Bridge during his first spell as manager before resuming a career which has taken in spells at Lyon, Juventus, Benfica and, most recently, in the Spanish capital.

The veteran, who has 58 caps from an eight-year international career that ended in 2010, would add to Chelsea’s midfield numbers and his arrival, even as a squad player, would apparently not affect Frank Lampard’s chances of securing a new one-year deal.

Mourinho hopes that Tiago’s signing under the Bosman rulingmight smooth the adjustment of another Atlético player, the striker Diego Costa, into English football – with the Brazil-born Spain international expected to complete his £31.8m move to south-west London this summer. That transfer may be confirmed only after the World Cup finals, for which Costa remains a doubt with the hamstring injury which forced him off early at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon on Saturday.

So we want most Atleti's player and P$G want ours. xD

What the point in calling them P$G when we had our name insulted over the same pettiness?

Clubs pay what they want, fair play to having more money than anyone else.

I dont like it when people disrespect the name of Chelsea, and as a Chelsea fan you should respect them.

I find it a bit sad when people do stuff like that. We need to remember it wasnt that long ago that it was us that was throwing money about like it was going out of fashion.

Calling them P$G is not a disrespect by any means atleast from my point of view. I'd get honoured if I were a P$G fan because money is everything nowdays.

Cool, lets refer to chelsea as Chelski from now on, that cool with you? its ok because our owner is eastern european.

I don't give a sh*t do what you think I got used to it, it's not about ANY DISRESPECT towards them. If you don't like my posts just don't reply as simple as that.

Back then there was no FFP or any thing but now there is. That's the difference mate.

Koke with a C then.

Where you getting June 10th from?

Well June 9th to be exact is when the transfer window opens (July 1st in Spain)...so any of these "done deals" that are right now just rumors, won't be officially completed and announced until that time.  Hence why David Luiz is right now still a Chelsea player even though we all know he is going to PSG.
