Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Because they agreed in principle to sell and now they're attempting to renege.

No proof of that though. He's got a pretty bad hamstring injury so I suspect the world cup is his main priority at the moment, not us.

Some people get abit crazy with paper talk.

This will happen. Relax.

we've been there many times and to be frank, I must tell u we know what it means to get linked with a player and even hear reports (ala sky sports news) that the deal has been done, and yet not get the player. virtually everybody may even have agreed that its going to be done and yet it wouldn't. look mate, we haven't forgotten so quickly the heartache of failing to land Rooney and mourinho's blunder on our best striker (lukaku) meaning we endured another year with Torress. the club mustn't just play around with us the time round, concrete things must be done.

Heartache at not getting Rooney? Seriously??

I think he pretty much divided this board on whether he was wanted or not.

I was more heart broken when City signed Kun Aguero!!

Abit much.

Robhino the obvious one to mention here.

Im still confident itll happen

I don't ever remember it been announced on Sky Sports that we were set to sign Ageuro Rooney or Robinho. We were heavily linked and talks were happening but it didn't say as far as I remember breaking news Robinho is set to sign for Chelsea or anything like the Costa one has. Also Atletico have had time to deny the report and yet they never have. He's coming.

My comment was more based on the fact that we had been linked with Kun for about 18 months and to everyone it seemed a case of when not if.

But i concede your point that none of these players were ever announced as joining us. Costa is even more of a certainty then Kun or Robinho was. Pretty much every press article refers to him joining us and Atleti havent denied it in the slightest,

Diego Costa has signed Chelsea contract, would have to pay club penalty to get out of it

Posted by SPORT WITNESS on May 27, 2014 at 15:43 in Sport Witness FootballView Discussions

El Confidencial have been way out in front with a lot of the Diego Costa to Chelsea business, which makes their story today all the more eyebrow raising. The Spanish outlet say that Diego Simeone now has much greater power at Atletico due to his success, and despite his tantrum on Saturday night, so is pressuring the club into doing everything they can to keep star players.

That includes offering out bumper contracts to the most important of Simeone's men. Diego Costa is clearly one of those and El Confidencial and Cope radio say the striker now regrets a contract he's signed with Chelsea which guarantees he'll move there this summer. The problem for Costa is that he'd have to pay a penalty to get himself out of it.

There are three scenarios here. The first is that Costa has never signed anything with Chelsea and El Confidencial are trying to cover their back because they claimed he did, and are worried the move may not now happen. Secondly it could be that Costa has signed a contract and doesn't want to break it, but Atletico are trying everything they can to get him to change his mind. Thirdly, what the Spanish newspaper are reporting could be entirely true and Costa is having regrets, so Chelsea could find themselves with a striker who doesn't really want to be playing for them.

I doubt he'd signed anything yet. We've made our intentions clear and its not like they've got teams knocking down their door for him (as most teams at our level have much better strikers then us to begin with!)

if the story is true, then let him break it. we only want players who want to be here. id much rather wait til after the wc, see which strikers are fit and available and go for one of those. costa looks good, but i would pick falcao over him any day. hope falcao is fit for the world cup and we go on to sign him afterwards

Any report Atleti 'leak' will only show them in a positive light. Costa wants to break the Chelsea deal and wants to stay? Makes Atleti look good doesn't it...

Nothing was signed, buy-out-clause met perhaps but he can always say no. Sounds like a PR stunt Barcelona would pull.

I truly hope we do not sign this guy, I just can't see it working, his fitness and temperament, it will just all go Pete Tong imho.

If he signs I'll get behind him, if he does not then hopefully the club has some other options. At a minimum I am sure Lukaku would be a fair amount better than Etoó, Torres and Ba have been for us.

Seemingly his Instagram account had a pic if him in Atletico gear saying thanks, but he's now off for a new venture with Chelsea.

Could be a photoshop job?

We should have bought this player instead :p. We know he'll be another big name striker in a few years.

Not a striker though, and can't see him ever being a player that can play up top as a lone front man. Aguero is a lazy comparison.

Quality prospect though.

10 goals in 48 games? sounds more like the new Franco Di Santo than Aguero, and we've been there before!

He's just 18 years old tho. And Atletico can make him a wonder.

I know us football fans are impatient but I think there's genuine nerves that we might not get Costa. It was all over the sports pages a few weeks back and now its suddenly just quiet. I think it will still happen but it is strange that there's basically little to no talk regarding Costa coming to Chelsea now.

Not from me there isn't, i would be more than happy for him not to join. I'm sure he will though.
