Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Plenty of Chelsea's fans would like to see Torres gone. This man is not willing to lower his wages. There's no club in the world that is going to pay him 160 thou a week. Lol.

Why would he be willing to though?

Would you take a paycut if your company asked you despite being guarenteed a higher wage for a few years?

I know I wouldn't.

Do you know categorically he won't drop his wages??, I have never read anything to quantify this urban myth, it's just supposition by disgruntled fans that want him gone!!!!

Well it obviously was because that video posted is him scoring out of nothing.

Only 1 or even 2 goal doesn't mean he can score out of nowhere.

While strikers like Suarez, Aguero does that at regular basis.

Erm, yes it does. In fact it means exactly that, surely. Are you on a wind up? I really hope so.

The video looks less impressive the wilfred bony one, I also don't think we should sign him.

What is it that you find unimpressive out of interest?

If it's the lack of extravagance in a lot of his finishes then I would argue that some strikers just have a knack of being able to be in the right place at the right time. Are able to make the right runs and move intelligently in the box to get the goals.

The best example I can think of is this guy... Never the most skilled of strikers but had a good record at club and international level.

I'm not saying he's not a fairly competent goal poacher, probably even good. I'm sure he will pick up more goals then Torres just on his willingness to gamble on his runs. My issue is football has changed...

Between parking the bus and playing one up top it's become that much harder to do the job for a top team. Certainly in the premiership.

Costa's goal's take advantage of space and poor defending, not exclusively but for the most part, as does Boneys by the way so I'm not singling out costa  here. For the majority of our games we need a forward who can do something a little extra with with not a lot to work with.  As i said, I'm not sure that's  costa can do this, based on having watched him quite a lot since January.

I do believe he is better then what we have, and I can't see much available that is better so it may be a case of needs and musts. I'm just wandering if 30 million is a bit steap for some one that many consider to be in the second tier of strikers

I don't think its steep at all. In my opinion he is the best available option, we can;t get Suarez, RVP, Aguero or Cavani. He is probably the next best option.

That's a fair enough assessment, I suppose I am just looking at this signing differently.

Creating chances wasn't a problem for us last season, even in games we lost or drew against deep defenses such West Ham at home we still carved out plenty of chances but out problem (in my eyes) was that we didn't have a natural scorer in the team.

There was a lot of times the build up play was fine but no one was in the area to receive the final pass to finish things off. Players like Oscar, Hazard, Willian and even Torres their first instinct doesn't seem to be to do things like attacking the near post and as basic as that sounds we wasn't doing it.

Between Oscar, Willian, Hazard, Fabregas, Salah and Schurrle there is more than enough creative talent to be putting the right balls into the penalty area for a player like Costa to thrive on.

If he does sign I'm sure a lot of his goals aren't going to be considered for goal of the month but he'll quietly be going about chipping in goals and winning matches.

As have said many times, I'm looking forward to being proven wrong and he is far better then we have.

Can you remember all the terms of our bet, if so could you inbox me them as I don't fancy trawling through this thread next year :)

Chelsea shying away from Costa is very good news...

I simply don't think he has the skill set to mesh with our creative players and when you play 20 games per season against 10 teams who more or less sit 10 behind the ball Costa won't be the man that gets us the breakthrough.

We need a striker with more touch and ability in tight space.

I still hold out hope we will sign Benzema somehow. If not we should look at Falcao, or go all out for Rooney.
