Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

It's a complex issue our strike force. Lol.

When we are playing with only one striker, I'm not sure we need someone who is creative. He needs to hold the ball up, which Costa can do, fight for the ball pressurising defenders into mistakes, which Costa gets a little carried away doing. Most importantly, be there to actually finish the chances our hegemony of creative players can produce. Do that, actually be in the box when a cross thing comes in which Torres is so useless at. be in the right place to actually affect the ball going in the white thing at the end of the pitch. The reason we like Ba at the end of the season is this seems to be where he operates, Torres seems to try too hard to create leaving a gaping hole where he actually should be.

£32 mil is a lot of money, but when you consider the market, and I'm not talking about the higher end here, Bent moving for £24 mil for instance. It's not over the top. The only thing I would like to see us do though is trust someone who will be good, as someone said with the Aguero/Torres situation. We are always looking at ready made products and are never willing to chance ourselves at the next big thing. Instead we shove loads of profit in the direction of Porto, Benfica, ATM for players they buy 2-3 years earlier for next to nothing.

There is nothing wrong with buying Costa, but we must be looking at Lukaku and another rising star to actually complete our strike force. No Torres and Ba are not the key to this.

Fact of the matter is that we need a new striker though, and Suarez isn't available to us. Neither Is Agüero. There are strong rumours that Falcao is going to sign for Real Madrid. That leaves Cavani, who PSG bought for around 60 million euros. I'm no businessman, but I'd assume PSG would at the very least want to break even there, maybe even make a profit, and suddenly the Costa deal doesn't look so bad considering it would be about half the price. I actually think it's a super deal. There have been plenty of top level forwards that weren't able to create chances for themselves, for example Raul, Inzaghi, and in the Premier League most notably van Nistelrooy. Not saying Costa will definitely reach their heights, but it's pretty far from doom and gloom.

Well it's not my word anyway. But Mourinho said it we are going for a striker of that skill which Costa certainly hasn't got.

Aguero? Mourinho wants a battering ram who can also finish when given the chance, not a weak player who is injured half of the time. Lets be serious here, Aguero is not a Mourinho type striker although he is a very good player. Aguero would be as useless as Torres at holding up the ball. We need a player who is similar to Drogba, not a better Chicarito.

I love how people are saying Costa is not whatMourinho needs when he has said himself Costa is the man for the job. Borderline delusion.

I think we as a club need to weigh up how much we need a forward as Costa, to the potential for it becoming a PR nightmare and a media wet dream.

A while back I had said any chance of Suarez coming to us made me sick to the stomach with his antics, and further proof that the nasty streak in some players will never leave them. If and a big if....Costa comes to us we will be reminded on a regular basis of his past, let alone if he copied any of it.

I'm concerned he has the same nasty streak as Suarez and we would have to prepare ourselves to be as opposed to one of our own, should it happen.

We need to buy Costa without hesitation and we need to back him in because:

1. He's 25 and yet to hit his peak

2. He scored 36 goals in 52 games, already tying Didier Drogba's highest goal-scoring record in his 8 seasons at Chelsea. Drogba wasn't even close to Costa at 25

3. He scored a very good 20 goals in 44 games when Falcao was the main striker, so he's not the one season wonder everyone is making him out to be

This guy clearly knows how to find the back of the net. If we're judging players by their World Cup performances, Rooney would struggle to get a game at Millwall and the whole Spain side should be fighting for spots in the Granada Reserves. It's a whole different ball game.

Costa, Lukaku and Ba.

Do we really need a striker than will create chances for himself out of nothing?

2 Seasons ago I would've said yes with my eyes closed, but with the latest addition of Fabregas in our team, we have such a talented and creative midfield behind the striker.

If we sign a striker that wants the ball to himself and create chances, that will again cut back on Hazard and company's ability to create chances limiting them the time on the ball.

With Hazard/Oscar/Schürrle/Willian behind the striker and Fabregas behind them alongside Matic. I don't think we need supercreative striker, a striker like Costa, who is moooore than capable of creating chances, and is a world class finisher of the ball, I think it could work out, that would mean more freedom for Hazard/Oscar/Willian/Schürrle to operate the ball on offense and would also give them more chances to develop, and with Costa up there to finish the chances I fancy our chances.

Simply my opinion.

Could be true Soulo. I honestly think there isn't a player of that calibre available. Costa, Mandzukic etc. are on the next level down from Suarez, Cavani, Aguero, Lewandowski, Zlatan, Tevez etc. but they may well be the best available. That could well be the reason we went after Fabregas to create more chances knowing any striker available isn't necessarily going to be able to create themselves.

In my view this situation makes our dealings last year (passing over Cavani and Falcao in particular) seem silly. We made big money moves for Willian and Schurrle who made contributions but whose fees could have in my view been better spent on a really top level striker.

So your thoughts are we should have bought Cavani/Falcao at £60 mil and kept Mata, as opposed to buying Willian, Fabregas and Costa. Certainly would have been cheaper.

Falcao just might be damaged goods. Cavani doesn't want to play in the PL. Willian alone is as good as Mata if not better. Cesc is suited to play in the PL & Costa if he is signed is a bargain.

Every morning for weeks now I get up and log in whilst making my cuppa and hope for a report confirming we have withdrawn our interest in Costa.

After watching Spain in the WC and Costa I am alittle concerned.  I was not impressed with Costa and don't think he is the all mighty answer.  Is anyone else concerned or was the WC a fluke for Costa.  I would love to see Falcao instead.

So i'm not the only one!! Don't get me wrong I hope to be wrong in my cautiousness around the whole idea of Costa coming here.
