Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Has all the red tape been cut, has he actually signed yet?

Glad he is here, Fabregas (if he settles quickly), should be a huge asset in moving the ball quickly and finding the space to him. I am dying for him to be a success, we need a top class goal scorer up top. It will ease the burden on Hazard etc and it will make them perform better.

Costa to me seems like a guy who hangs in the box and just knocks them in, I am not convinced on his overall ball skills, dribbling etc. Maybe that can be coached. If all he is is a poacher who can get us 30 goals a season we will gladly take it!

I just hope his temper can be kept in check - he should use Suarez as a staple of what not to do.

Lets all get behind him and give him a chance.

No point in anyone moaning about the signing, because he is here now and theres not exactly a long list of alternatives waiting to be picked.

Come on Diego.

Amazes me how people can discuss a game so much and still be totally clueless.

We've just signed one of best strikers in the world under the age of 28 for £32m ffs!!! £2m more than United just paid for an 18 year old left back!

Costa is not one of the best strikers in the world those are

Suarez

Augero

Ibra

Falcao

RVP

Costa is below that level along with the likes of Benzema, Mandzukic, Dzeko ect.

I cant believe you're not a scout at Chelsea or Madrid yet. Eye opening

You don't need to be a scout to know who the best strikers in the world are....

Can't really say that he was playing great against Barca or Real. I remember his great goal against Milan, that's all. He didn't really affect in big games. I know he got injured, but still, I'm against. We all could see it at the world cup, I know Spain was bad as well, but as a striker he must try to make a change. All I remember is his dive, that's all.

How many goals did Suarez scored against top 4? f**kING NIL. 6 games 0 goals.

It is down to opinion as to who the best in the world are though really isn't it, people opinions will differ.

In terms of raw statistics, how many of those players listed above scored more than Costa last season?

See I think there's two types of great strikers there's your ones that score 20-30 goals a season but don't have a huge say on the big stage (I.e. Cup Finals, big matches) like Henry, Van Nistleroy, Shearer, etc then there's your strikers that don't consistently score 20-30 goals every season but are the difference in the cup finals, big matches like Drogba, Cantona etc. both types are rightly recognised as amazing players worth the huge amounts and are just as vital to the teams as the other. Costa scored a ton of goals last season and maybe not any against the big boys but we didn't struggle to score in those big matches last season it was goals against the lower teams we lacked.

Oooh so confident that this thread has been moved to general? Let's hope he doesn't fail his medical or refuse personal terms.

Apparently the medical is already done and Atletico's statement they released said Costa expressed a desire to leave to them so you would imagine personal terms won't be a stumbling block.

Probably just letting Costa finish his post World Cup break before finalising the deal I would assume.

Well that put me in my place haha. Fair enough though, I didn't read the Atleti statement.

"Both entities have reached an agreement whereby the London Club is liable to meet the full amount of the buy-out clause.

Diego Costa communicated his wish to be transferred to Chelsea FC at the end of last season and today, the two entities have reached an agreement whereby the London Club is liable to meet the full amount that figures as the buy-out clause in the contract between the player and the Club.

The Brazilian striker came to Atlético de Madrid in 2007, and was loaned to Celta de Vigo, Albacete and Real Valladolid. He subsequently returned to the red and white Club for the 2010-11 campaign, winning the UEFA Super Cup against Inter. In the following season’s winter market, he was loaned to Rayo Vallecano, returning in 2012-13 to our Club to win the King’s Cup and the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea. His performances in the last campaign contributed to be League Champions and led him to be called to play with the Spanish National Team, with which he competed for the recent Brazil World Cup.

We wish the best of luck to the football player in this next step of his professional career."

So now you know....

Not sure why you say guys like Henry and Ruud didn't really perform on the big stage?

Henry was a regular match winner against the big sides and in Europe (also regarded as one of the premierships best ever strikers) as was RVN....

Poor examples IMO

I disagree, I'm talking cup finals and whilst Henry scored a few against Man U he didn't tend to win the big matches for Arsenal.

They weren't cup match winners like Drogba & Cantona were and Drogba & Cantona weren't consistent goal scorers season in, season out.

Maybe try reading what I said before disagreeing with it?

Of your list of the best strikers in the world, Zlatan is 32, RVP soon 31, Aguero unattainable and Falcao, Suarez would cost 2-3 times as much as Costa.

Costa is better than all of the other three you listed.

You left out Lewandowski by the way.

Henry regularly scored in important games....

Cup finals are not just the only important games, important games are title clashes, CL matches too and both scored plenty in those games.

Maybe in price but he's not a patch on them as footballers.

I really don't remember him going to much in tithe clashes against the bigger sides. Not enough tines anyway. Cantona and Drogba were better big game/cup final winners.
