On talksport now talking chelsea etc..and it's very sad to hear him slagging gulllit off...ruud apparently told jody he should go on loan to holland when he was 18-years-old cos he was already getting in trouble off the pitch....jody told him no and ruud didn't speak to him for a while afterwards....obviously this is jodys slant on things, he even laughably said ruud was lazy in games when still a player...

Now not saying ruud was without his faults, but we all know jody was a prize prat and pis*ed his career away...I remember going to one game and ken bates writing in his programme notes for jody to sort his life out if he wanted to become a top player...

Well perhaps ruud was proved right jody and it's pretty pathetic to have a pop at him when you really should look in the mirror

Morris would have done well to listen to the advice of an all-time legend of the game. A stint in a new country, new culture, new language etc might have helped him grow up a bit.

Posted

He had plenty of anecdotes and went on to say loads of other players didn't like ruud either, but no surprise most of them were the ones not playing...one involved john spencer who apparently would sing 'please release me, let me go' within earshot of ruud....this was after Zola had joined and so one day when spencer tried it again, ruud just walked by singing Zola, la la la, Zola!

Joey went on to reveal blackburn and Portsmouth both pulled out of deals to sign him and he never got told why by sourness and Redknapp respectively...my guess is they didn't want to waste money on an unprofessional little gobsh*te,

Morris might have made something half decent of himself with the limited talent he had, but instead chose to go down the billy big b******s route to oblivion.

I won't gloat, but I have no sympathy either.

Morris is another ex player that has taken to twitter.  He speaks fondly of Chelsea, and to this day still says leaving was the biggest mistake of his career.  Bit if a polarizing figure, wee Jody.  Never been his biggest fan, personally.  But he does love Chelsea

Who remembers his goal and trumpet celebration against united, in that 5-0 win?

On another slightly related note, whatever happened to John Harley? He was a very promising player as well.

I feel for Jody Morris, he was such a good prospect well thought of by the club and his teammates but no-one ever got hold of him and helped/made him learn how to behave.  I know some people might have tried and there's no doubt that he was a cocky, horrible billy big bollox, but that wasn't really his fault - we are what we are until we learn to change.  Really what he done when he was young was the same as 90% of other young players, what he didn't do was learn quickly enough to move on from that stage and start behaving properly - I think the club maybe let him down a bit.

This was Jon Harley's career progression:

Chelsea
Fulham
Sheffield United
Burnley
Watford
Notts County
Portsmouth
Maidstone United

He just never built on the promise he showed when he was challenging Le Saux for the left back spot sadly.

As for Jody Morris, I really liked him when he was here, I was only in my early teens when he was playing for us and so liked him and Wise when they played together because they were the English lads and Jody was even keeping Deschamps out of the team at times.

He was offered a five year deal to stay but felt like he wasn't being offered a fair deal and so jumped ship.

If he had taken the contract, proved his worth for us who knows what he could have achieved?

The stuff with Ruud? I'm sure Gullit wasn't the easiest personality to get along with but let's be honest that level of talent often does carry an arrogance and swagger and I'm sure there has been much bigger egos and arseholes in the Chelsea dressing room since he played for us.

I know jody still loves Chelsea, he's still in and around the club now and is big mates with lamps...but I can't respect someone who had an opportunity we all would die for and did not make the most of it...know what you're trying to say Barn, but we're all responsible for our own actions and jody only has himself to blame for his career going down the swanny...

ruud saw someone wasting his talent and potential and tried to come up with a solution...I can understand ruud, someone who was European player if the year etc, not being too impressed with a teenage kid unwilling to be as professional as he was.

even if he'd signed that deal, he wouldn't have been able to hack it in the roman era...lamps worked and trained hard to beat the competition of multi-million signings, jody would have been down the nightclub, trying to pull another bird...

as for John Harley, he's also back at Chelsea now...think he's a youth team coach, working with the under-13s or something

Was drinking with him and Jon Harley in the chelsea village hotel before Aaron lincon was also there. Jody strike me as a tit really but Jon was a nice guy. I suppose jodys problem was not taking advice on board. Good that Harley is back at the club.

Speaking of Harley, I remember he had a few games, but had Poyet playing ahead of him.  If Poyet messed up or a play broke down, Poyet would absolutely tear into young Harley, supposedly damaging Harley's confidence and he was never right after that.

Another reason I dislike poyet, he destroyed harleys confidence.

jon harleys winner at leeds was quality. I think injuries and confidence seriosly affected a potential international career. Reminds me of sam Hutchinson a bit for some reason.
