Jose wants to rest key players for the Liverpool game but isn't his decision - Sky Sports

Dreading the Anfield game now. If we field a weakened team, we'll most likely lose and I hate losing to them more than anyone else.

               Shwarzer

Dave - Cahill - Ivan - Cole

                  Mikel

    Lampard          Matic

Salah         Ba          Schurrle

I'd probably go with something like that, 4-3-3 to allow us to play all 3 central midfielders who are ineligible for the Atletico return leg but still be strong enough, same back four that is likely to play as well.

Salah because he will be ineligible, Ba because he's unlikely to start and Schurrle to give us a bit of a goal threat on the counter.

Still more than good enough line up to give the bin dippers a run for their money but also allows us to rest some players before the big one next week.

Guess the easiest place to start here is with who we know for sure will start - and there is 4 of them, Matic, Salah, Mikel and Frank.

For all the talk of the weakened team i dont think Jose has too many options. He isnt going to throw Kalas in for his debut at Anfield and i doubt he will start MVG after so long out.

I guess it will be something like

Schwazer

Ivanovic

Luiz

Cahill

Azpi

Lampard

Mikel

Matic

Salah

Schurrie

Ba

Ive assumed there that Ramires will be suspended.

Well, im going to say possibly the most negative thing ive ever posted on this forum - but hand on heart i think we will lose. Mourinho has clearly prioritised the Champions League and this will transcend onto the players. We are facing the ultimate in form team, full of belief, form and most of all momentum.

I think it could be uncomfortable viewing on Sunday. Thank heavens the City game is after ours because at least we could be spared the possible scene of Liverpool beating us and winning the title.

Key thing for us will be not to pick up any injuries ahead of Wednesday.

Your win mate. your record their very good over the years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GprcTAFLQCw'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GprcTAFLQCw and  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GprcTAFLQC

I'm actually getting more confident of a win against you lot the closer it gets, especially since you have key players out. The best way to get to our shoddy defence is to press us high up the pitch but (and correct me if I'm wrong) that's not been a part of your game plan, plus its a risky move because in the unlikely situation that our defence don't collectively sh*t themselves and get the ball into midfield we can get it out to the wings and really hurt you on the counter.

Such a big game though.

I'm thinking 1-3, Eto'o with the hattrick and Liverpool go into meltdown.

There defence is susceptible to lobbed in crosses as seen against both west Ham and palace. Play ba up front for this, get the crosses pumped in.

Sakho is great in the air, he'll start over agger, ba would be your most dangerous striker tho, there'll be at least one time where the ball flops around our box while our defenders grab shirts rather than try to find it

I think bjd is very close with his team.

The only selection I question is Luiz.  If he were injured there is nobody to play in midfield alongside Ramires against Athletico.  Chance of injury aside - there is still a strong case to keep him fresh for Athletico.  I suspect that Jose may keep him in reserve.  Perhaps Ivanovic to play in the centre, cole at LB and Dave at RB.  Outside chance for Kalas to start.

Having all of our starting midfielders and attackers for Athletico rested against Liverpool should be a fair advantage for us.  We can still have a competitive team against Liverpool if just the defenders backup for both games.

I'm thinking 1-3, Eto'o with the hattrick and Liverpool go into meltdown.

your win on sunday and man city will be your friends for a long long time. both you and them will be very happy indeed

You really hate Liverpool don't you :laugh2: Never thought i would have something in common with a gooner.

I don,t hate liverpool. have a lot of respect for them as a club. Just think your beat them on sunday that is all to make city favourities for the league

your manager be more up for this then any other game. he already mentioned his unhappyness with semi final in 2005, about suarez in last game in december and about amount of liverpool pundits he feels their are  in  the media

he dislikes us and liverpool the most in the league and he never hidden that.

he looked pretty good last night at back but he might be in midfield. either way top class player

He made one good defensive header but other than that was all over the shop when he had to drop into the back four. He is an absolute disaster as a centre-half and must be a complete nightmare to try and play alongside.

People rightly point out that we are alot more fragile without JT at the heart of our defense. Indeed we are, JT has been one the best, most consistent, centre-backs in the world for over a decade. But what really hurts us is that when he is out, Luiz comes in.

On his day can do a big job in midfield and that is really the only position he should be considered for.

terry is massive player but he might still be fit for sunday. you don,t know if jose playing mind games with liverpool on that

either way liverpool defence far weaker then yours even without terry and that gives you a great chance. also mourinho far better tactically then rodgers

he looked pretty good last night at back but he might be in midfield. either way top class player

he's a top class player in midfield, in defence he's found out of position constantly
