I used to hate it when the African cup of Nations rolled round every 2 years. Drogs, Essien, Mikel etc all disappeared and left us sometimes struggling a bit.

The World Cup is a 40 odd days away, the season is almost over and our boys are tired. The tournament is gonna be a cracker, no doubt, but are our already fatigued players going to be negatively affecting our season come September? I think Brazil will definitely win it, but I wonder how it will affect the Blues next season.

Looking at our squad of who's likely to play in Brazil.

England

Cole - No real concern, should stay fresh as he's hardly played all year

Cahill - Long season for him, the blistering heat will be hard, but in reality will England last that long in the competition?

Lampard - questions marks whether he will play much, will find the heat awful, will England do anything?

Brazil

Luiz - Massive expectation on him and his countrymen, likely to go on very far in the comp - gonna be knackered

Willian - As above

Ramires - questions marks whether he will play much

Oscar - Already absolutely knackered, the worst of the lot, and injured. Will be a race to get match fit again. Big concern, no real rest all year.

Spain

Dave - long season for our Dave

Torres - He's gonna get sold, isn't he?

Germany

Schurrle - Probably gonna be used a fair bit. Germany a good force, but cant see them going beyond the quarters - the heat will ruin them.

Nigeria

Mikel - Guaranteed starter in every game, well enough rested as of late, reasonably fresh. Should be ok as Nigeria not likely to do much.

Holland

MVG - not likely to feature at all

Ake - as per MVG

Belgium

Hazard - Guaranteed starter, massive expectation on him, good team, bit of a wild card, could go far, but the heat will be against them. Is he tried as well? Bound to be!

Cameroon

Eto'o - gonna get sold, isn't he?

What do you reckon??

To add our on-loan stars from Belgium:

Lukaku - Now when Benteke is injured I expect him to lead the line in every single game and give us a reason to keep him in our squad for the upcoming season.

Courtois - Guaranteed startet, no contest. What's the point of Mignolet going all the way to Brasil if he can watch Belgium play on a telly as well?

Looking forward to it, brazil and belgium will be worth a watch with so many of our boys. Just wish the games were on at a more reasonable time!

I thought the game time is pretty good! 5pm, 8pm and 11pm, not bad at all.

Oscar will come back ruined I think.

He will need to sit out the beginning of the season and his form will be shot.

We will need Willain, Schurrle, Salah or maybe one of the loan boys to take the chance and shine in the no 10 role next season.

Very surprised at all the negativity around oscar. He has barely played for us in the past 2 months so why the concern about fatigue? Is obviously nursing some sort of injury so hopefully that is sorted before the world cup and he can go there and shine. Then he can come back to us in the same situation as all the other players going to the world cup

I very much doubt Ake will go to the world cup.

You're right, there has been zero talk in Holland about Ake going to Brazil, he will stay in Holland.

Even if he would play, he doesn't play for us anyways so that wouldn't harm us.

A few have called for Van Ginkel, but since he hasn't and probably won't get any minutes this season, he will stay at home as well.

I am curious for the WC, and the transfer period. If Oscar comes back knackered and in the same form he is now, we will have some problems at the start of next season. I wonder if we will get a new midfielder, in my opinion we need a new partner for Matic. But I would like to see a different CAM as well.

Everyone who goes to the world cup will be affected whether they play every game, go far, or not. Your list above is great but it would be better to see a list of who isn't going, they are the ones who have the advantage of being fresh at the start of the season. Most of our rivals will be in a similar situation

Players who didn't qualify or are retired from internationals:

Cech

Schwarzer

Ivanovic

Terry

Kalas

Matic

Salah

Ba

Not a big list.

Most on the list i am not worried about.

Cahill - CB's are not doing as much running as full backs and defenders and because of that i am not worried about his energy levels. He could easily play another full season starting right now i think.

Cole - Not sure if he will be here next season but because he has barely played this season, tiredness going into next season won't be an issue.

Lampard - Been in and out of the side this year, if he remains here next season he should be fine.

Luiz - Like Lampard he has been in and out of the side, he should be fresh after the world cup.

Willian - Won't be getting much game time at the World Cup anyway so i don't think it's a big problem.

Ramires - Same as Willian and i don't expect Ramires to be a regular in our first 11 next season anyway.

Oscar - One of the only major worries for me. I would prefer him not to go to the world cup. If he is indeed fatigued then he is going to be done by the time he get's back.

Azpilicueta - I'm not expecting him to be first choice for Spain so he should be fine when he returns.

Torres - Won't be here next season anyway so i'm not worried there. Will he even go to the world cup ?

Schurrle - In and out of the side this season, will most likely play most of Germany's games. He should be ok when he returns.

Mikel - Played barely any football for us at all this season so won't have any issues about fitness. I'm not sure he will be here next season anyway.

Van Ginkel - He won't go to the world cup.

Ake - Same as Van Ginkel.

Hazard - He's the biggest worry for me. He has had a long season, he's been involved in most of our games this season and will be regular for Belgium. Could be an issue over fitness when he returns.

Eto'o - I don't think he will be here next season anyway.
