Pre Season 2014

Featured Replies

Nothing has been announced by the club yet but has anyone heard any rumours as to who we'll be playing in pre season?

Normally we play in America or in Asia which gets announced in about February. But this time we haven't got anything sorted in those two continents so i'm hoping that means we'll be playing in Europe or we'll have a few first team aways in England which would be brilliant! In the last few seasons we've had Brighton away, Portsmouth away, Palace away and Rangers away which isn't too much over the time so some decent domestic aways would be superb little trips!

I'm sure I read somewhere that we are not going to the USA or the Far East which in a WC year is sensible, though to be fair a little surprising knowing how we normally have no qualms in sending the players off half way around the world.

Not sure where we are headed though.

Would certainly make sense especially as we went to both Asia and America last season. The America tournaments have been announced so definitely won't be there. We could be looking at some great potential European trips and a few domestically too which would be brilliant!

Would make sense for the team not to travel too far, although I will once again be praying that Chelsea decide to play a match down under, haven't been to a game in 9 years.

Its gotta be the USA or Asia, we'll probably go to one or the other.

Little point in doing it in Europe, as its a saturated market.

Asia and US completely different.

Hope we get a few games in England its a shame that these american and Asian tours seem to be the norm now, its just a big marketing ploy to pick up more plastic fans who ruin the atmosphere when they come to visit the bridge.

It's called expanding our brand.

All the top clubs do it and we are a top club.

If it generates us more fans and provides better income streams in the future then why not?

i did read somewhere that all pre season games will be in europe because of it being a world cup year and to give all our world cup players more time to rest....something along those lines

What are domestic pre-season away games like? Much fun to go to?

Did Portsmouth 2 seasons ago and it was decent enough. A good day out with mates, drinking and watching the game with a good atmosphere not really caring about the result!

Jose confirmed trainings starts on July 8th.

Wont the world cup still be on then?

Final is 13th I think and 3rd place will be 11th.

I'd imagine anyone involved in latter stages will be given a few weeks before the join up.

Makes sense, im not sure who isnt, but we will have players not at the world cup

Ivanovic and Matic for sure wont be playing in it.

palace, pompey, reading and brighton were all good aways with large away support and good atmosphere. in last few years pre season.

Palace palace who the f**k are palace palace, I liked that chat that day. Essien got a good reception and the roof of the stand had good acoustics

You are more than welcome to come to our local supporters club pub in downtown Vancouver at 4:45am for one of the early kick offs and tell the 20-30 of us that are mad enough to watch a game live at that time, that we're plastics.

On topic, I think we'll be best off giving the players a solid break after the world cup, and keeping to England/mainland Europe pre-season games - espeially when you look at the amount of games some of the young players are racking up at the moment.

I may have a suggestion for mainland Europe :-) I can't remember exactly when, but about 5 years ago Chelsea played a pre-season match against Ajax. It's time they repeat that. Just a suggestion, mind...

I remember reading this also. Which makes a lot of sense as it's a World Cup year. Also as the lads say above, be good to get to a few away stadiums and have a few days out

If you knew any of the New York or Belgian Blues you'd know that the last part of your post is a nonsense.

Was seating with the Belgium lads at the stoke game very vocal just like myself.

It's a tough one with the foreign fans. We have supporters groups all over the shot who wake up in the early hours of the morning to go and meet to watch the game and hats off to them. They obviously want Chelsea to go to their cities as they don't get to go to games during the season! That's one side of the argument.

The other is that fans who go week in week out home, away and Europe say that the club should do a few away ones in England as it's only fair that they have the right to make the matches at potential new grounds with big allocations! The club owe it to the fans who spend their thousands every season by playing some here in the UK. I'd obviously love us to do some in the UK now. We've been to Asia and America constantly and it's a bit annoying but it's good for the global brand! However even with those tours some should be arranged in the UK... Only fair really.

Two fixtures confirmed:

Wycombe Wanderers v Chelsea - Wednesday 16th July

AFC Wimbledon v Chelsea - Saturday 19th July

Two great little away days there.
