With ticket prices going up at Chelsea and if Wimbledon get back to Plough Lane and start having a bit of success I think there will be a new breed of Dons and they might become the majority in that and surrounding areas. A lot of Chelsea have moved out and been replaced with the middle classes and South Africans.  

 

True. I live in Raynes Park just next to Wimbledon, not that many Chelsea knocking around any more. When we're on tv though there's usually a decent turnout in the pub though.

You may be surprised Butterhampton. Social engineering comes in many guises, postcodes, place of birth, name pronunciation, name change, double-barrelling...and football.

I'd be really interested to know that too. I was born in Hammersmith and the home I was born into was more or less next to the ground. It'd be cool to know how many people there are with a similar story. From what I can tell, not that many. Our fans have historically flocked from all over the home counties, such as myself having grown up in Kingston.

A Chelsea version of 'born within the sound of Bow bells'. Not sure about the other home counties, but many in Kent, aside from town teams, tend to follow Charlton and sometimes Crystal Palace.

I saw this on the BBC's website this morning and thought it was interesting and relevant to this thread. It's a map of London and the blue dots represent Chelsea support, red Arsenal, purple West Ham, etc. It's based on twitter activity so probably represents the younger generation much more strongly than the older generation. Good to see blue dominates the most of west London and its subburbs. I have to wonder though how the map would look if they included non-London clubs like Man Utd...

i know 3 from that list, one was and still is a very good friend,we had a leaving do for him last year as he has moved abroad, and the ones i know, haven't lived at them address's for years, and the good mate of mine on that list got a second life ban , work that out ? lol

and carshalton, he was one who helped sort out the meet after a game, at the iranian embassy meet when the siege was on, also, he sorted out quite a few meets back in the day

I was working there for a little scaffolding company who had all the Met's surveying departments contracts, from just after the siege began for two and a half days. We were relieved and sent home after 60 hours of boredom just in time to miss all the fireworks. Got paid well for it though.

do you remember after the hassle and odd clumps handed out, the ob rounded us up,around some sort of monument or fountain ? and the press photographers  were all taking photos of us with the massive union jack with chelsea through the middle in front of us , then we started to play up for the press, lol

then some of us headed off to euston to look out for any northern mobs hanging around,and we just ended up going on the piss

Ended up on a pub crawl back via South Ken & Sloane Square and back to the palmeston for last orders.

Was young then. Can't drink that much now

Who was the meet with then.  We were on a bus at Knightsbridge and saw a big mob coming out the station and heading up to the embassy, We presumed they were Chelsea.  I was working in Kensington at the time and went down there every day except the last one.

to be honest who ever was there,but mainly lefty's,and Arabs supporting the hostage takers , as the word went round there was gonna be quite a few gong there to demonstrate, so we went to front them, but not that many of em turned up though in the end , the ones that did got cleared off,   

I'm almost a little disappointed this info. I'd always heard it was SH who organised the 'visit' to the Iranian Embassy on a whim with the intention of ending the siege. Chelsea fans rescue hostages!! Makes for a better story but nice to find out what it was really about I suppose.

I remember when the Falklands went off. A bunch of lads in the Swan at Fulham Broadway were seriously looking at atlases and trying to work out how much a boat would be to get there. Lasted for a few pints then they realised how far it really was. Had the impression they though it was off the spanish coast in the med somewhere...

Also remember the time the IRA let a bomb off near Harrods, was in the benches and whole ground was singing anti IRA songs for most of the game...

Always had the chaps selling the NF paper, Bulldog (I think it was called) between the station and the ground.

We didn't have such a mixed crowd as at games today.

Actually quite glad you posted this! know 1 on the list who I need to catch u with. the 'ban for life' is wrong though cause remember meeting him at the Bridge in 2002.

I was born in Tooting but moved to Sidcup as a nipper. The old chap used to take me to home games in the late 60's. When my folks seperated I moved to near Nottingham (where my Mum was from). So my teenage years were spent as pretty much the only Chelsea fan in a school dominated by Derby (who were flying high in Div1) and Forest (who were with us in Div2). I then found two other Chelsea fans locally and we started going to away games. That was 76/77 season. Not being old enough to get into pubs we just pitched up at the grounds, supported our team and cleared off afterwards. Some great memories. Plymouth, Bristol Rovers, Blackburn, Forest and Wolves stick in my mind especially.

As well as Harrow there were loads of Chelsea in Wembley and Kingsbury, The Preston was a good Chelsea pub with a few Gooners and a couple of y*ds.

I remember an FA Cup at Harrow Borough against Newport when it went off alarming, loads injured in the main bar. It was local Chelsea and West Ham, who had a following in Rayners Lane.

Completely forgot west Drayton, Yiewsley, Uxbridge neck of the woods some right nuts there.

Hardly any Chelsea in Kent that I know. Plenty of Arsenal, some Charlton, some Gillingham and the usual Man United that you get everywhere.
