Chelsea vs PSG (Champions League Second Leg) 11/03/2015

Featured Replies

Yes, that is the minimum we should expect.

However, if we are honest, that normally only comes for a side that has leadership. Not a bash a JT, as we have a team out there full of leaders. Costa, JT, Drogba, Cesc, Matic, Cahill, Brana etc. Out of them Costa seemed to be the only one trying to lead us, sometimes going a little over the top in a risky way.

PSG had more people that stood up and became leaders. Both center backs and both center mids were just superb in those roles.

In a way they reminded me of us at our best. 10 men, away from home against a good side? No problem, least it used to be no problem for us. Barca springs to mind, when our leader of all people got sent of.

How about West Ham at home during Jose's first reign? Lost Maniche early on and we still went out and tore them a new one.

This time PSG did to us what we have done to many sides before.

They wanted it more than us. That stings.

They out fought us. That hurts.

They out Chelsea'd us. That should not be allowed to happen.

How shocking were we tonight? No passion whatsoever!

Remember when we won the Champions League, there is a serious lack of that passion in our current squad. When Mou brought on Drogba, he seemed to lift the players & we were the better team in extra time but overall, we were sh*te!

Costa & Cesc both are shadows of the players they were at the beginning of the season. Willian frustrates me, obviously Mourinho has faith in him but he's inconsistent. Hazard wasn't really in the game.

We aren't clinical, we try to play all this lovely football, trying to walk it in to net like Arsenal.. We've too many Brazilians in the team, Ramires isn't good enough, neither is Willian, Costa, will he be as good as Zola or Drogba? Maybe, maybe not. Oscar frustrates me at times too, he's inconsistent.

I see JT putting 110% in. Azpilicueta too. Courtois & Matic, they do their best, so does Ivanovic.

Very frustrating, sh*te football, rubbish.

Remember we beat Barcelona with ten men? Because we had passion under Di Matteo, there was a serious lack of desire this evening.

The only positive is at least we can focus on the league. Roll on Southampton, let's do a domestic double this season anyway.

True, I don't disagree with anything you've said.

But still, the minimum in those final minutes should have been to show some real urgency, take some risks and throw everything at them.

I do wonder what the point of Willian is in games like this. No attacking threat and basically passes it to either cesc or Ivanovic.

Once again we relied on Hazard and there's only do much he can do.

Why is he so sh*t scared to take his man on?

He has pace so use it you would think surely? This cutting back and giving it to Ivan 9 times out of 10 is wearing a bit thin now.

A winger should be able to run at defenders and stretch the game, Willian can't seem to do that. He can defend and sprint about a fair bit but when you need him to attack it's like Groundhog Day of bad decisions.

What pisses me off even more is seeing doughnuts like this on social media:-

"So I' m a massive football (soccer for my fellow Americans) fan, and my no.2 favorite club, Paris Saint-Germain just knocked off my no.1 club, Chelsea, and i don’t know how i’m supposed to feel about this.

On one hand, i’m overjoyed that it was an amazing game, but sad that Chelsea’s out of it.

Oh well. Ici C’est Paris (This is Paris)".

It shouldn't be allowed, there's people on there supporting Man U, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, PSG. WTF is all that about?

I actually don't think Willian is that fast. Rarely see him actually go on the outside of a player, simply quick off the mark which is great until the defender catches up.

Always looking to lay it off or cut inside. Time to give Cuadrado a proper look.

passion.

Ultimately PSG did what we've done to teams before.

And we bottled it.

The barca tie crossed my mind of course, we battled a 2 goal deficit, a man down, away no less

but his was nothing like it. barca were giving all they had. our goal was under siege the whole time. tonight we barely attacked at all

in other news, still on for the double..

however, how do we now justify the defeat to bradford?

you also have to ask why we went so flat second half, clearly tactical, what was jose thinking?

we did the same with man city and united to name but two.

Staggering home very drunk. Haven't read the various posts about the game but guessing they are pretty vitriolic. But you know what, sometimes you just don't f**king care and this is one of those moments. Yes we were sh*t, we got handed it on a plate by an appalling red card decision and we failed miserably to take advantage, however eventually we got what we deserved. PSG fully deserve to go through and we have to acknowledge that.

I'm not so sure it was tactical given the way he was screaming from the touchline at them.

The players just didn't look up for it

::clap2:: well said...sums it up in a nutshell

I'm very very disappointed still and this post will sound incredibly harsh but after tonight i think it needs to be said.

I just can't believe how often we are getting the basics wrong at the moment. We are really grinding things out right now and we have to start putting in some good performances because it's only a matter of time before we drop crucial points in the league.

For me, the attacking play breaking up as often as it is is down to Willian, Ramires and Oscar. The 3 Brazilians quite simply are playing absolute sh*t on a consistent basis.

Nearly every counter attack, or even a regular attack, the same thing happens. Matic or one of the defenders will break up play, they will play the ball to Fabregas then Fabregas will get the attack really going with a good a pass. If he then passes to Hazard, he will do his stuff and play a decent pass to Willian, Ramires or Oscar. This is when it all goes wrong. If it goes to Willian, he will run on the right hand side with the ball, completely stop, pretend that he is going to take the full back on and then play it back 5 yards, or he will just play a poor pass, attack over. If it goes to Ramires, he will either over run it with an awful touch or play an awful pass foward that goes to the opposition, another attack wasted. If it goes to Oscar, he will do well at first, but then as he approaches the goal he will completely mess up his touch or he get's the pass wrong and the opposition win the ball back, and another attack goes to waste. They also rarely have a shot at goal either, the defenders shoot more than these 3 do.

It's just the same thing happening time and time again. Basically, if Fabregas or Hazard ends up giving it to one of the 3 Brazilian midfielders when we are looking for the final piece of play, the attack more often than not completely breaks down. These 3 for me are the main reason our goals have dried up lately and why we lose the ball so much in midfield. It may seem harsh to blame it on those 3 but we are seeing them give the ball away time and time again. Oscar has his moments, but it's always in the early stages of the season, and from then on we get the odd decent performance now and again. The other 2 though are quite simply not good enough, they never have been. Willian has been offering very little going forward every since he joined us and Ramires seems to have lost anything that was ever good about him since his injury.

Tonight, it was worse than ever from all 3 of them. All 3 of them did nothing right throughout the entire game and i personally think that enough is enough now and we need an upgrade on all 3 of them if we are ever going to challenge for the Champions League again. We will never compete with the very top sides if these 3 are going to keep playing like this.

pretty sure we sat back as we have done a few times, man u game was the same, its jose man he keeps reigning them in to be safe, we needed all out win or bust footy tonight and well we got whatever that was

Most of us have acknowledge that Loz, we tend to have a mix of fairly leveled headed fans on here, most of the time. For which I am thankful.

Same as we justify this one. Better side went through, and we have to do better. We know our owner will not have been happy with what he saw tonight. Jose and the players will know that too.

Adapt or perish, this is the next stage of our evolution.

Spot on.

At a combined price of £70 odd million it's staggering how little effect they have on a game

That was part of my frustration tonight. Question is who do we bring in? Who goes alongside Hazard? If you leave out Willian, Oscar and Ramires, who forms our midfield with Cesc, Matic and Hazard?

we played loads of squad players to keep everyone fit (100%) for games like tonight so why were we so tired?

waste of £52...we pass back and forth and forth and back till we lose posession, no one has the balls to shoot...it's like they are scared to miss..  oh well at least we can concentrate on the title...

yeah i said something similar in the 'jose mourinho' thread

people are having a go at cesc, but while his form may have dropped a little hes still contributing to our attacks. i see him time and time again release an attacker wide with bags of space ahead. if that attacker isnt hazard then it will come to nothing

if hazard needs to release the ball, it will come to nothing as well

the 3 brazilians (even 4, with costa) are shocking at linking up play

Not a melt down mate, just replying to Scott as to how he would have us line up if we left Willian, Ramires and OScar out for a game or two.
