Chelsea Team 2017 - The era of the new legends.

Courtois

Azpi

Zouma

Cahill/ Or new defender, someone like Varane or Boateng.

Ake

Matic

Pogba

Cuadrado

Loftus-Cheek

Hazard

Costa

Bench: Blackman/or a new experienced goalkeeper, Omerou, Chalobah, Willian, Bamford, Brown, Oscar.

The players i'm fairly certain will still be first XI players in 2 years:

Courtois

Dave

Zouma

Matic

Fabregas

Hazard

Willian

Costa

In other words, everyone except JT, Iva and Oscar.

I think next season will be JT's last, at least as a regular starter. His lack of pace means we're having to play very deep defensively, in turn stopping us being able to effectively press as a team, and that is probably the main thing that separates us from Barca, Real and Bayern right now.

Ivanovic might still be a starter, if he avoids serious injuries and maintains his current level of fitness. I can't see him being dropped unless he starts looking his age, which in 2 years will be 33. Unless Jose decides he wants to start using a left footed full back and values Dave's defensive solidarity over Ivanovic's attacking prowess.

Oscar i'm not sure about, this is his 3rd season here and he's never really hit the heights that were envisioned for him. He's been fortunate in that Schurrle, Salah, KDB, Mata and now Cuadrado haven't done anything to warrant dropping him on a more permanent basis, but right now unless hes able of playing to his potential more than 7-8 times a season his days are numbered, hopefully.

Laughed at some of the posts suggesting more than half our team will be different in just 2 years time, when we're on the verge of a league-cup double this season and JT and Ivanovic are the only players on the wrong side of 30.

edit: No point speculating on possible signings for the next 4 windows, chances are we'll sign someone who currently isn't even considered a top tier talent. 2 years before we signed Willian, Costa, Ivanovic, Zouma, Oscar and Matic they were anonymous on most of our radars.

In terms of internal youth promotion, Christensen has the best chance in my opinion. Can't see a youth player coming through further up the pitch, although Bertrand Traore possibly has the best chance as theres no-one in his position truly world class right now. Unlike Baker, RLC, Chalobah and Solanke that have to try get past Fabregas, Matic and Costa.

2 years and 10 months ago, this was our team for the CL final.

01 Cech

03 Cole

04 Luiz

17 Bosingwa

24 Cahill

34 Bertrand

08 Lampard

12 Mikel

10 Mata

11 Drogba

21 Kalou

That was a team widely regarded as needing an overhaul, in fact AVB was brought in to toss out JT, Frank, Ash, Drogba and Essien, only for it to backfire when all their replacements turned out to be sh*t. If you substitute in the suspended Ivanovic, Ramires and JT for Bosingwa, Mata and Cahill then the majority of that squad had been together for at least 3-4 years.

Our current team is only at the start of its cycle together.

That's true but there were a few in their 30's there that we knew would be going sooner or later like Drogba, Cole, Bossy and Terry. Kalou was also a bit part player as was Bertrand.

That was a team filled with older expierenced players while injury hit too.

Just now we have a far better mix of younger and expierenced players with only Terry looking like they might not be here in 2 years time from the usual starting 11.

Players like Mikel, Luis, Cech will no doubt be moved on before then.

Good thread, Coco.  It certainly gets the brain working.  I'll think on this a little more, but I'd also say that in 2 years and 10 months, there could very easily be a player in our team that "flew under the radar."  Or another hot young prospect that really blossoms and becomes a huge attraction.

Case in point for scenario 1: Azpilicueta.  Case in point for Scenario 2: Hazard.

It's impossible to fully predict.

.........................Courtois

Dave...........Zouma...Varane....Luis/Other (thankfully not Luke Shaw)

..........................Matic

...................Pogba...Fabregas

..Bale..........................................Hazard

.......................Costa

Bale, Varne and Pogba all in the same team? That would be bliss but that's over £150 million worth of talent in the current market.

Exactly, but this is a bit of fun and a fantasy post.  No different than slogging through the Rumours section with all the preposterous links to players in there.

At least I didn't add Messi :-)

I think two of those at a push could be doable.

I really think we have zero chance of getting Bale, even if Jose wanted him. I could be wrong, but I think Bales mother will decide he's off to manure for the dollar.

You can see the headlines with the 'New Welsh Wizzard' to take over from Giggs.

I can only see Bale at either Madrid or United.

That was a poorer team than this one. No spine in that team, little longevity.

This current team has players for the future throughout it and few passengers.

---Clyne-----Zouma-----Varane----------Azpi------

--------------Matic------Pogba/RLC--------------------

------Cuadrado------Fabregas-------Hazard--------

-------------------Costa----------------------------------- Maybe another RW but no idea who is out there that is a realistic signing.

First XI: Courtois, Dave, Howedes, Zouma, Felipe Luis, Khedira, Matic, Willian, Modric, Hazard, Diego Costa

Subs: Blackman, Ivanovic, Loftus-Cheek, Fabregas, Oscar, Solanke, Cuadrado

Modric? lolz. Noway. He'll be like 32 or 33 by then

He'll be 30 when the season starts. Never know with Madrid who gets tossed out. If Ancelotti goes and the new manager for instance feels that a midfield of Modric-Kroos is not strong enough defensively, then there is only one of those that is likely to leave. And if it's for a reasonable fee, I would love to have him here.

Imagine the look on Levy's face if Modric and Bale were to play for us!

This thread is about 2017, not 2015 though. I doubt Real will sell their best midfielder so soon at least not this summer.

I meant he would be 30 (ok, 30 years and 11 months) at the start of season 2016/17 which is what the OP refers to. Modric is hardly a player who relies on his physical abilities wouldn't you say, and as such, you would expect him to be somewhere in the middle of his peak at this point. And as you have pointed out, it doesn't have to be this summer.

I think we're more likely to sign Pogba than Varane. I can't see why Varane would happen, he's playing regularly at Real Madrid and Pepe is 32 and picking up injuries.

Yep Varane is a long shot but who else is there JT is obviously irreplaceable and Zouma is our future who should we be looking at?

As for Pogba we have the funds, if Jose wants him he will get him.
