Can we win the title next season?

Featured Replies

In the heat of the moment and after poor results things are said. I always thought that jose would need to win the title this season for his job to be 100% safe. 2 seasons without a trophy would not have looked good to Roman.

I do think we have probaly the best manager around right now, but sometimes his style can be frustrating when we don't see positive results and rotation to the squad over a long, hard season.

I would say the title is in the bag and if we lost the title now, i think his job a coach here would be very unsafe. I don't see how we lose the title now we're 10 points clear. We have two more home games against teams in the lower half of the table whom we should get at least 6 points from, and i think we get 3 points from Arsenal.

At least? Now that is what I call setting the bar high.

Of course we can.

The foundations are there and given that Terry’s age doesn’t catch up with him we look a good bet to push on. That doesn’t mean we don’t need strengthening though because we 100% do.

I’d like to see a central midfielder come in and also a left sided attacking player to cover for Eden, as FC mentioned in another thread it’s an area we have no cover in and it’s a miracle that Eden’s avoided an injury that kept him out for a few weeks or more given the treatment he gets from defenders.

Attacking wise Bamford to come back and hopefully Remy stays, hopefully we can cure Costa’s hamstring curse but if not then who knows what Jose will be thinking.

A central defender would also be nice but I suppose Zouma can cover that role as well as the defensive mid he’s played a few times plus we have Ivan who can cover if need be. Kalas also is due to come back and he’s looked very promising when we saw him last season.

Need to buy more players for it to be a bit more comfortable. I think we have been quite fortunate that our linchpins haven't missed a lot of games.

Our starting 11 is great, past that and its wafer thin. We need a 3 or 4 other signings I think. Maybe 2 young guys who will actually get a game and maybe 2 or 3 older, experienced players who are happy to play in the squad on a rotational basis.

We will be favorite but I think United will be close especially with their financial muscle

Arsenal looks like they will buy one star player each season. So they will be highly competitive as well

City will fade out due to FFP restriction and an aging squad.

So things look good. We just need to invest wisely in 2-3 new players. A good alternative option striker, a good central midfielder and maybe another young promising center back

I don't think so. Hopefully Jose will use next season as a chance to finally introduce some of the youngsters like Bamford, Loftus-Cheek and maybe Kalas and Baker. If that is the case then I won't mind not winning the league, as long as they are given a lot of chances.

The main Objective this season was obviously PL.

to be honest I think Jose wants to give 100% on both front PL and CL, But I think it will be very hard to play and win both same season unless we sign some extra players.

Players who are excellent in PL not always perform good in CL so it will be interesting to see who we will sign and who will be sold.

I can see Jose dominating this league for a while.

Only a few very specific situations can prevent that. The team we have next year will have taken Mourinho 5 transfer windows to create. Only other manager who can challenge a settled and well oiled Mourinho team is Simeone (with any of the top 4 sides) and maybe guardiola if he is given limitless budget (the likes of United and city have)

I really can not se the likes of LvG, wenger, ancelotti or even klopp challenging a Jose Mourinho team over a full league season.

Looking at our squad just now we will need some tweaks for sure.

GK – Courtious, Cech (will leave).

Def – Ivan, Azpi, Luis, Cahill, Zouma, Terry

Mid – Cesc, Mikel, Ramires, Matic

Att Mid – Hazard, Willian, Cuadrado, Oscar

Fwd – Costa, Remy, Drogba (retire?)

That's a core of 19 players who have been tasked with 4 competitions over a long season...we have been pretty lucky injuries wise over the course with such a small pool of players.

At least 2 of those will move on or retire in Cech and Drogba, so that leaves 17 core players.

We have loan players returning while we will have the likes of RLC and Ake making up the numbers next season in a more serious way so that brings it back to 19 at least. Obviously we will require a second keeper to bring it to 20 as is required.

Of the loan players to return who would stand the best chance of taking a place or two? Salah, Van Ginkel, Traore, Piazon, Bamford etc?

Positions that look to be requiring strengthening to me are central midfield and up top if Drogba hangs up the boots.

Attacking midfield has been mentioned but with Cuadrado brought in and RLC promoted would we spend in that area next season given our starting line-up would still be Willian – Oscar – Hazard?

Central defence in another area mentioned a few times with the like of Varne and Stones. Would real sell the highest rated young CB in Europe? Would Everton demand a huge fee for Stones or would it make most sence to go with what we have now Zouma looks more than able at the level we are playing at?

Pogba, Varane and a striker and we have a good chance. It will be tough, as it always is. Especially as Chelsea like battling for all 4 trophies.

BUT personally i would take a risk and would like to get some experience for our youth. If we can challenge with the youth getting game time it would be great, i would be willing to risk a year without a title if we could give our youngsters some first team action.

We should do even better next season if Diego can stay fit. I read a stat somewhere that said Drogba has made more apps for us this season than Costa.

I think we will but we'll face some stiff competition from Manchester United.

Louis Van Gaal isn't an idiot, he will fix United's problems over the summer for sure.
